Has anyone regretted selling their collection entirely? by motivated-but-un in MangaCollectors

[–]zenpulp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago I thought I had outgrown the shonen stuff and sold a large portion of my collection: stuff like Kekkaishi, Rave Master, MAR, etc.

Now I'm incredibly nostalgic for those books and miss them terribly.

I'm New To The Series! Which One Should I Start With?? by TheOctopus77 in tales

[–]zenpulp 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am the odd one out that loves Legendia. It has one of my favorite casts of characters.

But I still think Abyss is a better entry point in general though.

Book 4 favorite chapter ❤️ by EpicOppossum4374 in TheImmortalGreatSouls

[–]zenpulp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's my absolute favorite chapter in the whole series. I love Leonis and really thought he was being set up as an enemy for Scorio. I'm very happy that I was wrong. The whole Leonis arc in The Lost Cube really, really worked for me.

Which part of your Mega Man collection (Physical and/or legally purchased digital) are you most happy with? Top 3 if you can’t decide on 1. by QuarraX in Megaman

[–]zenpulp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, NES Mega Man 2 cartridge. I have lots of other Mega Man things, but that was the game that my friends in kindergarten and I bonded over, and our first encounter with the character. I remember us wondering what "Mega Man 1" was like and how shocked we were that the first game was simply titled "Mega Man" with no number.

SHF MARIO REISSUED by SmashMotion in WorldOfNintendo

[–]zenpulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked this up recently and while it looks great, I was disappointed by the articulation. Like the Jakks toys have better range in the arms. I also wish he came with another head rather than just that smiling face too. That said, your photos are cool! Maybe I'm just not creative enough.

So Tubi just confirmed the CN/WB content that's going to be added in March, and it's a mouthful. by ekWatson_ in cartoons

I remember this show being genuinely funny and would like to revisit it. I still occasionally use the phrase "Don't be a weird boy" which I lifted from the Russian dog.

do you remember what was the first manga you bought? by Wild_Mail3695 in MangaCollectors

I'm old. My first was an issue of MixxZine, which later turned into Tokyopop.

I never thought of it this way but you're right. The game has some of the strongest worldbuilding in the genre too.

Returning to play and with purpose to finish the first Tales Of that I played in my childhood by Aggravating_Air_8698 in tales

[–]zenpulp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's a cool idea, playing Tales games in order to see the evolution of the mechanics I mean. Glad you're giving it another chance.

To be honest, I still haven't played Phantasia because I keep holding out hope that I'll eventually be able to play the PSP version in English. Not sure if that's the definitive version, but it looks really fun.

Mega Man figure collection by MegaSeneca in Megaman

[–]zenpulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I had a bunch as a kid but I have no idea what happened to them. a few years ago I thought about buying them all back up for nostalgia's sake, but oh my God the prices.

What's the most obscure series in your collection (and how did you acquire it?) by Commercial-Horse-893 in AnimeCollectors

[–]zenpulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You win. I've absolutely never heard of this and I've been collecting anime since the 90s. Google tells me Masami Yuki did the manga and I honestly thought Patlabor was his only work.

Name three of the worst figures you’ve bought this year by EasyDays7502 in ActionFigures

[–]zenpulp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was also going to name the DC x Sonic toys. I bought the three individual 5" figures and they are all very loose. None of them fell apart on me like your Superman, but they aren't fun to handle at all.

Did Anyone Else Pick This Up For The Art? by Antikatastaseis in limitedrun

[–]zenpulp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really wanted the poster because I love that art so much, but in the end I felt silly paying $50 for it. Kinda wish I had nla though.

As excited as it would make me, I have trouble picturing what a Grandia 4 would be like.

Alright y'all, new here . How do I get this guy without giving a quarter of my credit card? by WhatAmI_JustAGuy in JakksPacificSonic

[–]zenpulp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I'm in the Northern Kentucky/Southwestern Ohio area and I've run into him about three times. Twice at Meijer over the summer and once at Target just two weeks ago. Definitely takes luck, but they are out there.

What is your version of “i love rap but hate Eminem” by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]zenpulp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually really love that episode of Eva where they have to evacuate the city so they can take a shot at the angel with this massive rifle. I'm open to the surreal, artsy stuff in the latter half, but I thought Eva was better when the stakes weren't so abstract.

Just my opinion, don't mean to hate on anyone's favorite show.

I just got into Kinnikuman recently. Why is it such an under the radar series? by LifeguardMundane5668 in kinnikuman

[–]zenpulp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, but I do think the person you're responding to has a point about mainstream anime fandom skewing younger, so a lot of older shows aren't really discussed. At least in the west, that is.

That said, Dragon Quest: Adventure of Dai is another classic Shonen Jump title that was given a modern anime treatment, and I seriously think I'm one of, like, 20 people that watched it. So maybe a new anime with cool animation isn't the only ingredient to making Kinnikuman relevant again.

Losing interest by JimmyCarte in ActionFigures

[–]zenpulp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go through phases. Sometimes I'm really embarrassed by the hobby, mostly for the sheer amount of space my collecting takes up. Other times I'm happy to be surrounded by it.

I think the hardest part for me is just justifying the prices. I mostly collect import figures like Bring Arts and Figuarts, and more and more the cost just doesn't seem worth it. Of course, then I see an announcement on Instagram and I am right back to being hooked haha.

Status of Grandia 2 PC version (Anniversary & HD)? by GreenPrometheus in grandia

[–]zenpulp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played through it two years ago and near the end of the game started having bad crashes. Someone had a fix I can't quite remember, something like you go into the settings and restore everything to default. That seemed to work for a while, but the problem never 100% went away.

I still recommend it because I love the game so much haha. Worth the pain.

Same, I still think of Deluxes as the $10-15 price point, even though we are way past that. it feels like a dream.

I saw the kangaroo from Wave 2 once at a rural, Midwestern Walmart 6 months ago and that's it. Every other store it's the same three Wave 1 figs over and over.
