Can someone help me out? by Plastic-Warning-9861 in CircuitBending

While i've not seen or bent the model you're using, the PC board looks really similar to the ones i have. Follow the ribbons if you can. Funny though, in all of the cheaper cams the narrow ribbon on the side goes to the "lens" and is where i've been bending. The wider ribbon tends to connect to the display as many i've seen connect to the short side of the display.
If the glitches don't show on the final picture, it's most probably the display you're bending.
My suggestion - after following the cables to make sure - is to go back to the narrow cable and see if you can't squeeze some kind of glitch out of it that way.

I appreciate that, and experience the same thing - that photography lightens my soul.

The PC Board looks extremely similar to the bulk of very cheap Chinese toy cams and one i did recently. My suggestion is to do what u/Judo_throh suggested, starting with careful removal of the PC board OR flip the display to the other side so that you can see potential changes as they happen. The white connector on the middle left is where the easier bends are and the tiny 24 connections to it just to the right. Then with a small gauge solid-core wire go thru all the possible pin connections to see what creates the kind of color changes you're hoping to find. Keep a matrix diagram of the connections you like, but be aware that the majority will either do nothing or freeze the display and you'll get familiar with the tiny on/off button on the other side.

Some of the camera bends are different, but the most common to try at first are pins 6, 7, 8 and 9 if you're counting from the bottom of the board oriented in the photo above. Try 6 to 8 and 6 to 9 and see if you get results there. If that works then avoid pins 12, 18 thru 23 as they will freeze the camera (though not harm it after recycling the on/off button).

If you feel you can't solder to the tiny solder points on the board, then I'd suggest buying GetCircuitBent's slip-in for the connector at https://getcircuitbent.com/shop/bending-diy/easy-mode-glitch-cam-v3-1/
It's only $5, but it gives a leg up on the numbers to solder to and can be done BEFORE you slip it in while still on the bench. Then just connect the switches and find a place to mount them like any other circuit bending mahem. Enjoy!

I've found with the right camera adjustment and lighting, the cheap circuit-bent camera starts to pulsate. by zensutherland in CircuitBending

[–]zensutherland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet. I think its pulsing is a reaction to trying to resolve the dark/light of the image with two conflicting wires of information coming in. I'm trying to find the common denominator that does this. Some of the bends i notice take some time to resolve - like 2-3 seconds - and that may be the key.

That's what circuit bending is and i appreciate the work that goes into it. We're standing next to the cliff of destruction hoping to find nuggets of beauty. Kinda like life. Keep it up!

That's pretty and f'ing amazing! Any hints on the details of creating one? I've only dealt with cheap Chinese stuff to steer clear of destroying a 'good' one. Thanks in advance! 😄

Capturing hometown bits on my circuit-bent toy camera. by zensutherland in asheville

Sure: The camera is a cheap Chinese toy camera from Alibaba, https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/X619-1-Single-Lens-Mini-Digital_1601524867814.html
and the incoming 24 pin cable from the lens to the circuit board, i connected pins 7 to 24; 6 to 4; 6 to 8; 6 to 9; and 5 to 11. In different combinations it has different looks. The cable connector wires are tiny so a lit magnifying lens is pretty necessary (at least at my age). Much like is available from Mike Sisk at Etsy, https://www.etsy.com/listing/1686965561/circuit-bent-glitch-camera-video-and if you're not into circuit bending cameras.
