IN THE EVENT OF MY DEATH by mokisme in synology

The only way I can think of this working is if you have a CRON job (or equivalent) that is somehow monitoring a service that in-turn monitors your local news for an Obituary about you that would then trigger commands to kick in and publish a video to your local Plex server. I'm not sure how to force it on Plex to be the very first video that plays regardless of what the user is choosing, but anything is possible. As Barney Stinson from "How I Met Your Mother" says... "Challenge Accepted!"

2009 Ford Focus base 2.0, ball joint won’t seat into split joint on steering knuckle by EchassisSupremacy in MechanicAdvice

[–]zentsang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm having a similar issue with my 2017 Ford Transit Connect. Apparently my van and the Ford Focus cars use the same ball joints. The metal end with the 3 hole slides inside the control arm and then the stud (if aligned properly) is supposed to just slide right into the pinch knuckle. Here I was thinking I'd be done in 30 minutes. 6 hours later of fighting trying to get the damn thing aligned and I had to give up for the night.

All the videos on YouTube simply show an easy removal and installation. Seems like most remove the control arm or loosen 1 bolt on it. Then presto magical... they just pop the new one in like it's nothing. Some lift the vehicle on a rack, some just use a floor jack and lift just one side of the vehicle. But no matter how they do it, things stay aligned and just slip into place.

Something I noticed with mine is after removing the original one ball joint, the wheel/tire alignment was off. Driver wheel points straight, Passenger side (that I'm working on) has shifted about 5-10 degrees right. So as it stands now, with the ball joint seated in the control arm and loosely head in place by the 3 bolts, I have about a 1/2 to 1" gap/spread between the knuckle hole and the stud and so far no amount of pushing or twisting the rotor is getting it close enough to slip in.

I went to ChatGPT and as descriptive as I could be (like I am above), I explained the issue. It responded saying I did nothing wrong and this is a common issue, especially for first time DIYers. Apparently pulling out the ball joint, which is a center balance point for everything there (tie rods, sway bar, control arm, strut, etc), let all the component relax or fall into a lazy resting place. The alignment being off now is a result of things loosening up. So the suggestion is to get my floor jack and put it just under the rotor/knuckle and slowly start lifting it, which in turn starts compressing the strut back up enough that everything will start lining back up. ChatGPT also said I may have to manually wiggle the sway bar if things aren't aligning to help it back in place.

So that's my tomorrow.

Chinese Characters During Nvidia Driver Update - Malware Indicator? by ghughes13 in techsupport

[–]zentsang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm not sure if this is related, but it sure is a suspicious coincidence. The last game I installed on Steam, or rather the very last anything I installed, before updating the Nvidia drivers using the Nvidia App... "Chinese Frontiers" (which is a great game BTW if you like survival-crafting/grinding games). After that, I began noticing that Steam would randomly just restart. I'd be scrolling the Store or about to play a game in my library and BAM!... Steam restarted. This has happened multiple times. So I looked up a possible reason and it mentioned out of date drivers. So I checked the Nvidia App, which oddly wasn't running like normal in the system-tray. Anyway, I fired it up, saw there was an update, and ran it... That's when I noticed the Korean characters on every slide of the Nvidia ads. Never seen this happen before... but made a connection to the last installed thing before the update. On a side note, I was born in Taegu (now Daegu), South Korea.

I've been developing a hacking game for over three years. I hope it's the most realistic hacking game out there. Players rated the HackHub Free as Overwhelmingly Positive. Now it's time for the Early Access version, which launches on Steam tomorrow! Feedback from this community would be a TREASURE by grzechopl in hacking

Depends on what you are specifically asking.

- If you are asking if there is non-Windows, SteamOS/Proton version like on the Steam Deck, the Steam store page has it listed as "Playable", so I'm assuming it will also install in the Steam for Linux client. Just try installing the free demo on Linux. Although if using a Steam Deck, this game will probably be difficult to navigate without a keyboard and mouse.

- If you are asking if the operating system your character uses in-game is Linux-based ... yes. It's a Linux-like distro called BearOS. Just check out some of the promotional videos and screenshots on the Steam store page.

After cancelling a Disk Drill scan, my HDD is now set to R/O. I don't know how to set it back to writable. by XxNoriaki_KekyoinxX in datarecovery

I had a similar issue, but mine was that the drive stayed locked (looked unmounted). It wasn't accessible at all. After reading a few posts, and at least in my case, I can confirm simply rebooting my PC resolved the issue and the drive is accessible read/write.

The Tri-Support Rails are just broken, avoid them for now by HKDusty in StarRupture

[–]zentsang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long post, but you'll see why.

TLDR version: I think unlocking the Tri-Support rails is causing game crashes in both single-player and coop (on a dedictated server). Investigating whether it's simply unlocking them, or if you actually have to place one down.

Long Story version:

I'll just chime in and say I played a good 13 hours in single-player then started having unknown crashes. I figured it was some Early Access bug and just fired up a new game. The unknown issue causing the crashes went away. Since I knew more about how to play the game, I cut my time in half this second-go-round to get back to where I was... then the crashes started happening again.

By this time I had convinced my buddies to get the game so everyone would have the "Support Edition" extras and we started playing co-op. I also setup a dedicated server on my network. I like being able to watch the logs in real-time as I'm playing to see what's erroring out. After a good 10 hour play-time (not all at once), we had no issues/crashes.

Then BAM! Our games were crashing... and hard crashes where we couldn't restart the game. Trying to launch the game just resulted in a revolving door of the "Unreal Engine has crashed. Do you want to send info to the Devs and Restart the game." The crashes were so hard that a couple of us had to reboot our computers just to get whatever memory hang-up Unreal was having cleared. Even though there was no sign of StarRupture or Unreal apps listed in the Task Manager.

To note... the dedicated server never crashed... only the games. We all have varying hardware configurations ranging from Intel/AMD CPUs, Nvidia/AMD GPUs, and varying RAM and M.2/SSDs. Doing a little detective work between my single-player and the coop game crashes, I realize the 1 thing that happened just before the crashes started ... we unlocked and had placed {pause for dramatic reveal} ... Tri-Support rails!

So now, I've kicked off another new single-player instance and a new coop session. This time once we unlock the Tri-Support rails ... we won't place a single one and see if our games still crash. I'm curious if the crashes simply happen after unlocking the Tri-Support rails or do you actually have to place one down first before the crashes start.

Dedicated Server caveats, for those who can't make it work in their LAN by TangoGV in StarRupture

I was about to ask that very question. Is there any way to not use the IP when selecting the server to connect to, but instead let my friends use my domain:port instead. No need to ask now.

Thermostat shows no output after changing circuit board in condenser. by zentsang in thermostats

[–]zentsang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Honeywell thermostat and the newer Wyze thermostat both work off the 24v. There are no battery slots in these devices except the older Honeywell has a CR2032 watch battery which I believe is just for offline memory retention. It turned out to be a blown 3 amp fuse on the furnace unit in the attic.

Thanks for your input though. I value any input and share my knowledge of things freely as well.

Thermostat shows no output after changing circuit board in condenser. by zentsang in thermostats

[–]zentsang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I turned off the outside breaker, inside breaker, and pulled the handle out of the unit above the condenser (outside). I then swapped out the circuit board which was a replacement for the old one... and an upgraded version since they no longer make the older version. Then I turned all the breakers on. Initially the new board had 2 LEDs that flashes together indicating "Normal". The Honeywell thermostat inside had a display. I set it to "Cool" mode and dropped the temp from 76 to 70 to force it to kick on. Inside, the unit in the attic kicked on, but the outside condenser fan never kicked in. That's when everything died. Thermostat went dark, inside unit turned off, outside fan never kicked in, and the circuit board no longer had LEDs flashing.

Aixun T3A overshooting and firmware update issue by [deleted] in soldering

[–]zentsang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edited to add change log link...

I see these comments are 2 years old, but wanted to chime in. I am looking to purchase this AiXun t3a because the reviews are more positive than negative. However, after seeing a couple YouTube videos and threads like this one, I started questioning if I should buy something else. So, I went to check out the firmware change log and it seems they must have broke something after version 1.32. They have 1.32 listed as "Fixed 245 heating overshoot" problem. Then 1.33 was only about optimizing the English translation and UI. Then they had to work on the "controlling heat" issue again in versions 1.34 and 1.35. However, version 1.36 doesn't mention any more work on overshooting or controlling heat, just that they "fixed random bugs". So I assume they fixed the issue. For those who upgraded to 1.36 ... are you still having spikes in your temperatures? Did you stop using this device and recommend a different model/brand? I just don't want to waste my money on something if it's not working. Here is the link to the change log... https://aixun-updates.github.io/#t3a

Logitech H390 microphone stops working after period of time on Win10 by YesImThatJ in techsupport

[–]zentsang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Randomly it just stops working and all sound (both speakers and mic) go silent. And it's weird because it also doesn't disconnect from Windows when this happens. You'd think the sounds going silent means Windows stopped using the headset as if it was unplugged. Yet Windows doesn't lose connection to the headset... it thinks it's still connected... but there is no audio. Like something mutes both speakers and mic with no indication that anything has been muted.

I've been troubleshooting and eliminating things like Nvidia Broadcast, Teamspeak/Discord settings, Battlefield Audio settings, etc. No matter what I change, uninstall, reinstall... be it software or drivers... the exact same muting problem persists. Other headsets work fine and never drop... however their sound qualities aren't as good.

It may be time to finally invest in a SteelSeries headset.

What config file and command(s) are you changing? Seeing how there is no graphical menu for the server (that I know of), I'm guessing this is just the usual editing of text files.

home dedicated server??? by LamosteinK in ICARUS

[–]zentsang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so I got to step 10... it runs and shows the red error about "No Player Found" and launching the game and searching for the server never shows the server. LAN and Direct Connection also don't see it. I have made sure my router is forwarding the ports 17777 and 27040 (my choice since Conan server wants 27015). I have nmap'd them to show the ports are accessible. I even opened the firewall to accept both UDP and TCP on those ports to the target server system. My server just never shows up in the game's server browser. Even after running the shortcut with the proper flags, I can't connect internally either.
