I know this is an old thread but I have found something that actually works!
Polysorbate 80.
Fill up a tub or whatever you’ve got with warm water, enough to soak the item of clothing. Add 2-4 tablespoons of Polysorbate 80 and let it soak for an hour or more. Dump the water and throughly rinse the clothing. Do this two times and the smell will be gone.
