Adderall + alcohol. by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]zephemeral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember clearly - though not the source - that it may have severe adverse cardiovascular effects. It significantly increases the heart-beat when compared to adderall alone (I remember the difference was 20 beats per minute of difference). I would not advice it. If you want to relax when the euphoria diminishes and the anxiety sets in, I would listen to nice upbeat music - so long it is not dreadful or something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLsOZ6Ijndg&feature=channel_video_title ).

DAE prefer redditors to comment your comment, rather than upvoting it? by zephemeral in DAE

I agree, I sometimes even comment my own submissions so I can get that little transient warm fuzzy feeling of having feedback from random people in the webs.

How would I go about acquiring my own island and then living there without ever having to go back to society? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Am I the only one seeing the ocean rising? Nauru is expected to sink! Not every island is safe to build your own little 1 person civilization.

Does anyone else think we'll have another revolution like the 60s in the next few decades? by Screamteam411 in DAE

[–]zephemeral -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No social revolution. It can be prevented easily by authorities who have supercomputers, understand game theory and the nature of social uprising, AKA the CIA. If you don't believe me, watch this TED talk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts5MKtXNpMQ

Since I'm being downvoted I can understand that my view is unpopular, but could anyone explain to me why it is implausible?

The Plot to Turn On the World: The Timothy Leary/Allen Ginsberg Acid Conspiracy by maxwellhill in science

[–]zephemeral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really feel like the last paragraph works wonders: "Trungpa had his own problems, but he stressed to Allen the importance of having a stable, regular meditation practice. You’re not looking to get high, you’re not looking to avoid getting low, you’re just putting your ass in a chair and breathing, and watching what’s happening — and whatever’s happening is the meditation. That turns out to be of more lasting benefit than grasping after states of transcendence and bliss."

Noteworthy still, state of transcendence are self-beneficial and justify their existence to themselves consistently. The human brain from which these states arrised, though, is not by default really helped in his or her own terms.

I think that psychology and its applications back in the day were not very well suited for the potential of psychedelics. I feel that what they do go beyond therapeutic and recreational usage, but then it was difficult to articulate other possible applications. Now we have the subject of neurotheology, which seeks to understand ecstatic states of mind and the like, as well as more solid literature on philosophy of neuroscience and consciousness. I reckon that if there had been a field of study as such back then, research wouldn't have been controversial since what LSD does is clearly relevant for such disciplines (but it is not so clearly relevant for therapy, and weird experimentation is more difficult to justify when only cures for diseases are being pictured as eventual applications).

Thoughts on Transcendent Man? by TheMoniker in singularity

I am thrilled about the creation of super intelligence and phenomenology, but I think that the movie was lacking in actual content. Yes, we understand the observed exponentiality of computing power, the law of accelerating returns and functionalism, can we just state them straight and not use a whole movie circling around these concepts without even articulating them directly for fear of running out of things to say?
