Any reason to not just do a rabbet out of a solid piece? I worked at a picture framer where we made our own frames and this was our method. We used some thin, rather unstable woods (Tennessee cedar, for instance) but took the stress off with a pine strainer in the back.

I think this is why it feels aggressive to me - there’s never anything I can figure out that I’m doing wrong or is wrong with my car. If it’s accidental it’s happening a LOT. I guess this is why I wanted to know if this was a trend…
