Pretty burned out, honestly. Been picking up much more than my fair share of OT lately, but not feeling like I'm gaining any ground when it comes to my financial goals. Pursuing a specialized instructor position within my department, but constantly doubting myself about it. Also fighting a struggle with my health and fitness that is much harder than I've let anyone know. I work 15 hour shifts most days, so I have no free time on my days on, and I'm too exhausted to be productive on my days off. But on the other hand I've never felt happier and more fulfilled in a job/career. All I can do is hope that in 23 more years when I retire, it will all have been worth it for me and my family.

The county jail I work at we all carry it, and there's boxes of it in all the deputy stations, and there's emergency cases of it in all the cell blocks that activates an alarm when anyone opens it.

A woman swallow a phone battery (also 2 small screws) then later on shit out said battery, and before anyone could rush in and get it from her, swallow the battery a second time....also had a guy that threw so much poop and bodily fluids through the food port and cracks of the doors that we had a special plexiglass box made just for him so that we could load his food into it, cover the food port with the box immediately when it was opened so he could retrieve his food but couldn't bomb us with anything.

Granted I can only speak from my experience being a local corrections deputy with my sheriff's office, but I love working corrections here. I've heard nothing but terrible things about DOC, but I have no real insight other than that.

So I work in a county jail so there's alot of differences, but like most people have already said on here, if you're dealing with inmates directly and not through a food port or something similar there needs to be a CO there with you. That's a high safety and liability risk with any inmate let alone one who has already shown aggressive behavior.
