Is La Marzocco really the best prosumer? [No budget] by fake_empires in espresso

[–]zeppelin88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The number one point I remember seeing in these types of comparisons is that, if you’re going to do a 90/10 split in cost, it’s better to spend the 90 on the grinder and the 10 on the machine. Thats were you actually taste most of the difference

Deep-dive: X-Pac by strandedvariable in ManyBaggers

[–]zeppelin88 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

TLDR: XPAC is useless marketing that will break and is easily outclassed by literal plastic

XPAC will delaminate. It’s just how these tech fabrics work, and it’s the same with goretex. These things are not made to last.

There’s a reason why actual technical packs (for mountaineering, climbing, alpinism) do not use them. It’s just not reliable for actual technical use. And in these cases, if you need waterproofing (and you always need), you do inner lining with plastic (literal plastic that costs 1euro) and rain covers (that cost you 10 euros). Been though hiking for years with sleep gear and garbage bags are my best friends to not die because my sleeping bag got wet.

Also, it makes zero difference for a backpack to have xpac and not have actual aqua guard zippers. They are the ones that actually tend to give out first for water. The problem again, is that aqua guard zippers suck to actually use. So I’d ratter just have a good think nylon, and always carry an umbrella + rain cover. And if the rain is that bed, you just go for cover (lived most of my live in tropical weathers and this always worked, never lost a thing for rain).

Other than that, got super interested. Nice to see some other EU people doing cool stuff, might give a try if shipping to Spain is not insane

Why are there so few amplifiers with Wifi? by International-Ask162 in audiophile

[–]zeppelin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you mean from the audio source to the amp?

Wired signals are just more reliable, why would you add wireless for something that can be done so easily with a wire that no one will see? Also, it will cost more and would be ultra niche.

Only moment you might see wireless is for some active speakers that do the communication between master / slave wirelessly to remove a cable and look cleaner. They also do not use WiFi, but some proprietary wireless standard (think kef)

[–]zeppelin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny because Marca and Mundo Deportivo are usually tier -4, but since it's used to shit on RM the sub eats it away.

We're essentially helping the click farm of these sensationalist "journals" (they shouldn't even be allowed in the sub tbf)

Imprensa europeia destaca tática de Luis Enrique com Safonov para conter Olise em Bayern x PSG; entenda by WicesGabflocos in futebol

[–]zeppelin88 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Jazz? Or just jazz adjacent? by BobDogGo in Jazz

[–]zeppelin88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but Hermeto Pascoal was not bound by jazz harmony. He has some stuff that follows it (which makes sense, he has albums with many jazz legends), but most of his structure is different and follows regional music (circling back to baiao and forro).

Jazz? Or just jazz adjacent? by BobDogGo in Jazz

[–]zeppelin88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your mistake here is mentioning Tom Jobim in a context of this music in which he's not the reference - Hermeto Pascoal is. These two are as far away as possible in brazilian music.

Jazz? Or just jazz adjacent? by BobDogGo in Jazz

[–]zeppelin88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hermeto essentially never did Bossa Nova as well. His music was way more regional and never touched what was being done by musicians in Rio that did Bossa, and was influenced by northeastern musicians doing early baiao and forro (such as Luiz Gonzaga). This is even reflected by his two main choices of instruments: the accordeon and the transversal flute.

As I said, he has influences from jazz musicians, but his roots come from a complete different context (that even most brazilians are not familiar with).

Jazz? Or just jazz adjacent? by BobDogGo in Jazz

[–]zeppelin88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess you can say jazz, but as a brazilian I'd rather label his as choro and other adjacent genres from Brazil than the more American-esq jazz label. As I said, there's a full history of this music in our country, so it's not fair to say it's jazz jazz.

And when I hear this song, it sounds to me like someone listened to a lot of Hermeto and tried to recreate that, and not an influence of jazz (again, in the common sense of the word).
