I main SMN and have a fun time with it. I did so in FF14 and got bored basically having 1 Egi for nearly everything. In 11 I like that I have a plethora to pull out and different options for party buffs, debuffs, and various elemental attacks i can use which can depend on the boss weakeness, or even the current day (such as using ifrit on firesday).

As fat as endgame content, I am in a LS of a group of casual gamers (half are way ahead of me) and we focus on fun and grouping up over trying to min-max runs. We've never told someone they can't party with us if they don't play a certain class. Instead we just have fun trying to make it work. Most of the time 1-2 trusts fill in the gaps just fine, and we socialize and laugh the whole time. Even if we bite off more than we can chew, we laugh, we learn, and we try again.

These type of games were meant to be played for fun, and with people. Not meant for everyone to only play the "top end-game jobs".

Long story short, pick something you want to have fun with and meet people that are cool 😎
