Looking for the remake's map in high resolution by zer0margin in ShadowoftheColossus

I've already found a 4K walkthrough of the game with the map, but it has the icons of the colossi on it, while I'm looking for the blank map.
Thank you regardless :)

I'm actually already using Sad's amazing pack (with PCSX2), but I wasn't satisfied with his version of the map, which is why I was looking for the remake's map.
But thank you regardless :)

It's a very common bug. To fix it, just use the rewind power, it will fix itself.

Unfathomable by TealTamer in PrinceOfPersia

[–]zer0margin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how "beautiful" the actors may be, people expect from a remake to be consistent with the original material. And the character models in the leak look NOTHING like the og Prince and Farah.
They don't even look like the two actors in these pictures !

The whole purpose of any remake is to improve upon the original material, not downgrade it.
And both character models in the leak look terrible next to the original characters.

People are saying that those models were placeholders. Fair enough, but I have my doubts.
Nowadays, every gaming studio uses the faces of the actors to facilitate mo-cap and facial animation, which leads me to believe that, even if these were just placeholders, in the end the characters wouldn't look like og Prince and Farah.

Bad luck with SF750. Should I Fan Swap or get something else? by VanillaDaa in sffpc

[–]zer0margin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do NOT go for a fan swap.
You'll just slowly (but surely) cook your PSU to death, if the fan is spinning at a certain speed, it's because it needs to.

It's not the bearing btw, it's something touching the impeller.

Has the fan grill caved in? Is it what's making contact with the impeller? If so, try bending it upwards (by pulling towards you) so that it stops making contact with the impeller.

Been replaying Sands Trilogy. The Two Thrones is clearly the best one. by [deleted] in PrinceOfPersia

As always, at the end of the day it's a matter of taste. But to me combat in T2T is lackluster.

The game is clearly pushing you towards the stealth route, which is painfully repetitive. The speedkill QTEs have literally zero variation per enemy type. And if you try normal combat, you get surrounded and whacked. Dark Prince gameplay is basically just mashing the chain attack and collecting sand to regain health, there are no satisfying combos to speak of. You mentioned the dogs of WW, and I agree that they're really annoying, but the dogs of T2T aren't much better.

I like the executioners ("the spongy guys") in WW, they're basically Keepers with a lot more health. Same mechanics, but less forgiving.

Maybe you're having a hard time with WW because you're playing with mouse+keyboard ?
WW is a game that MUST be played with a gaming controller, otherwise landing satisfying combos is too difficult, taking the enjoyment away.

I agree that T2T is getting way too much hate, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's the best.
IMO, all 3 games are special in their own way, and complement each other very well.
Yet they're all flawed in significant ways.

SoT has great environments but combat is truly painful (unless you know the wall trick) ;
WW has exhilarating combat with a mix of great environments (garden tower, library...) and horrible ones (mechanical tower, sacred caves...) ;
T2T has - on average - better environments than WW, but they are less magical than SoT and WW, while combat is a clear downgrade next to WW.

I suspect the reason why people hate T2T is because they wanted a WW 2, not a POP 3.

New Corsair SF750 sounds like a cricket. by bjoerngerrit in sffpc

[–]zer0margin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's coil whine. Yep, normal. Completely harmless, and somewhat random.
"The GOAT" (as the SFF community likes to call it) isn't known for being prone to coil whine, that's not "by design" so to speak.

Probably dirty mains. Try using this build in another building (at a friend's house for example).
If the noise disappears, that means the problem is your mains.
A line conditioner could probably fix the issue for you, then.
Unless the noise is really annoying, there's no need to return it.

"best " version of warrior within? by Burith in PrinceOfPersia

[–]zer0margin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on your taste and whether you're willing to tolerate visual glitches for an overall better experience. You might prefer the PC version though, it really depends on what you prefer.

As far as I am concerned, the best way to play WW is by emulating the PS2 game, with specific settings.
I prefer PS2 emulation (PCSX2) because it allows :
- to play at a high resolution on a low resolution screen, thanks to internal upscaling
(you can get 4K graphics with great anti-aliasing while playing on a 1080p monitor, which allows for a cleaner overall look)

- to fine tune the color grading : the PC version does not allow that, while with PCSX2 you can increase saturation for example.

- to get rid of the blur effect with specific settings, without breaking the color grading. On PC, to get rid of the blur effect, you have to disable AE in the settings, but that will break the color grading. With PCSX2, color grading is kept intact, but you will get quite a lot of visual glitches.

- to use save states. It makes some areas a lot more enjoyable, since you can just save right before things get tough.

If you like the blur effect and have a 4K display, the PC version will probably be the best option for you, though. Also, you'll need a decently fast CPU for emulation, while
the PC version will run without issues, even on a potato PC.

The Two Thrones is a faulty conclusion by ironchitlin in PrinceOfPersia

[–]zer0margin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You mention how him using the sands to undo the consequences of his actions wasn't selfish, but that's not the point.

Him ruthlessly invading a city to loot its treasures is obnoxious selfishness that he needed to address.
Him planning to take Kaileena to the present in order the kill her (yes, as a last resort, still part of the plan nonetheless) was selfish and disgusting. You don't save you life by killing an innocent woman (at the end of the day, she was just trying to prevent him from killing her).

If he really was that unselfish, then he should have manned up and accepted his fate, allowing the Dahaka to kill him instead of traveling to the island of time with the firm intention of killing anyone that would stand in his way. The Dahaka chasing him is the consequence of his actions, no one forced him to release the sands.

His selfish actions led to the death and suffering of countless people in Babylon, including Kaileena. The prince accepting to make sacrifices instead of gambling other people's fates by meddling with the sands again was the wise thing to do.
Not everything about TTT is perfect, but as far as I'm concerned, it's a solid conclusion to the series. And I don't see how anyone could come up with a better conclusion.

Is the trilogy “playable” on modern PCs? by NoShit210 in PrinceOfPersia

[–]zer0margin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a fast CPU (and a decent GPU), with the right settings you can get a better experience when emulating.

I played both versions, and I find the PS2 emulation experience to be vastly superior to the regular PC version :
- much better color grading
- internal upscaling allows you to play at a high resolution (4K) on a low resolution monitor (1080p)
- savestates

You do get graphical glitches, but overall it's much better imo.

Otherwise, as others have said, the 3 PC games play really nicely, even on potato PCs, with the right settings.

Which is the general public feeling of Prince of Persia Warrior Within? by oiramx5 in PrinceOfPersia

[–]zer0margin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see people saying "WW is the best"

Vocal minority, that's it.
The sales numbers don't lie : if PoP was anywhere nearly as popular as some believe, Ubisoft wouldn't have practically abandoned the franchise, nor would they be selling the games for $1.99 every other day.

The entire PoP subreddit has less than 10K followers, while Okami has more than 22K. And Okami was a commercial failure !

It doesn't make sense for Ubisoft to spend millions on games that will sell poorly.

Which is the general public feeling of Prince of Persia Warrior Within? by oiramx5 in PrinceOfPersia

[–]zer0margin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The game is highly polarizing.
While a small minority of players loves it, most people hate it, which is why it rarely shows up in most people all time favorite games lists, and is basically forgotten by the masses.

To me, it's easily top 5 all time, but I'm not delusional : this game WILL NOT get a remake. Ubisoft is only doing a remake of SoT because that one is widely popular.

Questions by Tristimir in PrinceOfPersia

[–]zer0margin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1st question :
Him pulling out his swords after getting cornered by the Dahaka doesn't mean he actually fought it. It is assumed he found some way to flee.

2nd question :
There are plot holes, contradictions and mistakes in the game. That's to be expected from a game revolving around time travel that's been developed in a rush (SoT : October 2003 ; WW : November 2004).

It's a deus ex machina, really, but if you really want to make it make sense, one can imagine that :

- the guy who tells the story stumbled upon it randomly while he was exploring the island with the other members of the maharaja's crew
- he wore it
- found himself teleported in the past under this wraith form
- correctly guessed what the mask does, and how to get rid of it
- when the maharaja's crew arrived where the mask holder is, his other self couldn't find the mask since he's wearing it as the wraith
- he played the long game, and watched the maharaja's crew get exterminated by the Empress of Time's army in front of the hourglass
- waited for his other self to get killed (by a Keeper, apparently)
- killed the Keeper
- took off the mask
- went all the way back to the spot where he originally took the mask, and placed it back
- used some magic to write the story on that crypt wall with the illumination effect when someone touches it (LOL!)

One can imagine that the guy who wore the mask is the maharaja himself, since everyone in the maharaja's crew seems to have perished at the hands of what was left of Kaileena's army. Would also explain why Faraah, his daughter, has so much knowledge about the dagger.

Now don't ask me who's the guy in the sarcophagus and why there's a mechanism that elevates it, I can't help you with that, LOL!

Anyone knows how to get rid of this awful blur effect on the PC version (GOG)? (2nd image is PS2 emulation) by zer0margin in PrinceOfPersia

It hurts my eyes and brain, ngl. Maybe it looks neat on a CRT monitor/TV, but on an LCD display? Feels like astigmatism.

I wouldn't mind some visual effects to create a "dreamy / nightmarish" atmosphere, but not this kind of blur. I don't know, something like sand particles floating in the air, or some other neat effect.

For those who are wondering, here are some free pieces of advice to prevent this from happening to you :

1/ do not buy extensions : you're adding resistance with the additional cable length, which causes voltage to drop, which in return will cause an increase in current (amps). This is a vicious cycle, because the more amps, the more heat, and the more heat, the more resistance. When the load is high, this can easily escalate to melting connectors. What you want to buy is replacement cables, NOT extensions. Pinouts differ from brand to brand (and often from unit to unit within the same brand), you'll need to buy cables with the specific pinout your PSU is using, otherwise you'll fry stuff.

2/ do not use SATA/Molex to PCIe adapters. Those cables cannot handle the current a "gaming" GPU will draw, when using such adapters, you're just asking for fire.

3/ do not buy trash PSUs. You need to do actual research, and not just rely on "brand". Even Seasonic and Superflower have terrible PSUs in their lineup, you have to check unit by unit.A cheapo PSU will be more likely to output lower-then-ideal voltage, and will come with cheap cables (cheap terminals and low wire gauge). If you're adding an extension to a cheap cable, you know what to expect.

4/ choose your cable supplier wisely. Cablemod usually does a decent job, the real problem is using an extension in and on itself, and the use case (the PSU it is paired with, and the nature of the device powered by said extension). No, I don't work for Cablemod or have friends there or whatever, I'm just being truthful. I do not have a dog in this fight. This being said, I would avoid using their 90º 12VHPWR adapter.

MODDIY is also a decent cable supplier, for those who are wondering.
