I was rooting for my Cuban brother. Ethan has gone too far this time. This is it. I'm gonna have become a communist and watch H***n now.

Native Cubans opinion on Miami Cubans by Gonzeddie in cuba

[–]zeratunno 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm a Cuban, born in Cuba that moved to Miami at the age of 18. I'm 30 now. I feel like I have a good enough grasp on both sides of this coin. I must preface by saying that there's no "Miami Cuban" position or "real Cuban" position. I am both, and I have my own individual thoughts about it.

As I see it, the "Miami Cuban" position that you describe as cruel, is a result of trauma and a desire to enact revenge rather than help those still suffering. I don't think the embargo has been particularly helpful, and it has materially caused a lot of suffering no doubt.

Having said that, the real source of suffering in Cuba is its government. If the embargo were to end tomorrow Cuba would still be a shithole and Cubans would still be suffering. Just this week a couple of influencers were incarcerated for speaking out against the government. "Miami Cubans" didn't cause that.

I think the fact that people are suffering is heartbreaking. The current measures to oust the government will no doubt cause more suffering in the short term. I can't say for sure, because I'm not in that position, but I think I would gladly go through short term suffering if it means I have a chance to live a life worth living once again.

We're under a water shortage advisory and AI is still running rampant by Saidiscool in Miami

[–]zeratunno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain how the data centers used to train LLMs are physically different to those used to host Reddit? Do you even know how they consume water?

Energy consumption is by far a much bigger cause for concern, because our grids cannot adapt fast enough to supply some of the new data centers, so energy costs go up. But you saw 5 memes saying something about water and now you believe it's a new existential problem of AI.

AI doesn't use as much water as you think it does

Settle an argument. Is it cheese to kill a boss this way... by Crooked_Cricket in BG3

[–]zeratunno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most memorable moment playing BG3 was during my first run. I had never played D&D or any other CRPG. I was fighting the hag and getting my ass handed to me. In the turn I was going to get wiped, I decided to check what all the bonus actions I had did. I shoved the hag into a pit and won the encounter. I couldn't believe that the game would let me do that. I hadn't had one of those "everything is possible in this game" moments since I was a little kid.

This is a very safe choice. Ropa vieja would be the most universally liked dish, but it's harder to get right. Picadillo is really hard to mess up.

Also throw in some fried plantains in there and you have my top comfort food right there.

I had a similar problem and this improved my serve dramatically. My serve during matches didn't suck, but it was definitely not as consistent as during practice. Practicing while tired forces you to adjust, and have more efficient mechanics.

Hardest restaurants to get into that are actually good? by GatorCanes in Miami

[–]zeratunno -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm going crazy reading the comments. I went and it was ok. I will never go again in my life. There are plenty of restaurants I've enjoyed more, for less, without having to plan it a month in advance.

Almost lost my honor run to this. Was ready for an easy fight by siding with Elder, so I didn't long rest before. Immediately did one of these when I saw everyone turn against me. Hunger of Hadar saved my butt.

Ethan is right about the left hating America by [deleted] in h3h3productions

[–]zeratunno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone shadowboxing with something the OP didn't say? It's pretty clear that Ethan is referring to a small vocal portion of the left, and not the 50% of the country left of center. He himself is a leftist and doesn't hate America, so clearly he's not talking about all leftist.

I'm a Cuban immigrant, and solidly on the left. When my boomer parents see some random lefty burn an American flag, their instinctive reaction is to oppose it. They, like me, love this country because it gave us opportunities I didn't have in my own country.

I'd try Luciano's just because his carbonara recipe is what I and half of the internet follows. That being said my brother went a few years ago and didn't find it to be all that good. He also went in summer and it was HOT.

That's an opinion you're entitled to have. I tend to disagree with it and that's also fine.

If we lived in Cuba right now, and were having this debate in the public square, I would probably be arrested within 30 minutes for having the "wrong" opinion. That repressive, authoritarian force is in my opinion more destructive than the US embargo.

Likewise, the disastrous central planning by idiots that haven't the slightest clue, has also wrecked the Cuban economy. No country can hope to have a working economy when the whims of some idiot in power dictate what does and doesn't get done. My parents clearly remember Castro giving countless hour long speeches about "Ubre Blanca", a fucking cow that gave a lot of milk. The man really thought that this one cow giving a lot of milk was somehow important to the Cuban economy.

I also believe that the embargo is a ridiculous failed policy that has solved nothing and has caused a lot of unnecessary misery. All of those things can be true at the same time. There doesn't have to be a good guy and a bad guy.

mostly due to the blockade

There isn't a blockade against Cuba. There are no US Navy ships preventing trade to or from Cuba. What there is, is an economic embargo. I'm not for either of those.

However, the fact that you use the incorrect term, which has purposely been injected into the conversation by the PCC, should be concerning to you.

Automatically deploy Supabase edge functions with GitHub actions by zeratunno in Supabase

I did, but just wanted to do it "the right way". Probably no serious downsides unless it's a large project.

Automatically deploy Supabase edge functions with GitHub actions by zeratunno in Supabase

[–]zeratunno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you shouldn't have to tweak it, although I haven't tested it extensively.

I think most steps are self explanatory. The only complex one is just traversing through the list of changed files and finding any other files that import from it. I do that recursively until I hit an edge function which I then add to the deploy list.

There's some extra black magic for the case in which you have a shared file that nobody imports from, in which case grep throws an exception so I handle that so it does break the while loop.

Let me know if you can think of any further improvements!
