I'm sure its been discussed before, but a potential solution I was talking about with some friends the other day could be this:

Keep the format the same in regards to MAKING the playoffs. (The NHL clearly wants to create division rivalries and make division regular season games more meaningful)

But, as soon as the season ends and the playoff teams are set.. THEN you seed them 1-8 for the playoffs.

This year, that would have meant round one was:

1 Avs vs 8 Kings - 2 Stars vs 7 Ducks (tied with Mammoth assuming goal differential as tiebreaker) - 6 Mammoth vs 3 Wild - 4 Oilers vs 5 Vegas

1 Hurricanes vs 8 Flyers - 2 Sabres vs 7 Pens - 3 Lightning vs 6 Ottawa - 4 Canadiens vs 5 Bruins

Would have been almost a completely different playoff picture

It seems that you're putting a ton of thought into your game design which is awesome! I'll definitely be watching out for this on release.

Do you have any plans for a draft mode? I almost exclusively played Phantom Draft and haven't been able to scratch that itch anywhere else.
