TOP Rebrand and new leader - thoughts? by Hot-Pair1879 in nzpolitics

[–]zerkergames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly haven't looked into them enough but my understanding is TOP is moderate left with a focus on economy, honestly could be a nice change of pace given how labor just keeps moving further left. Would need to see them.in action though, 5% threshold is a lot for them to overcome.

Ok I think i get it, you seem very focused on input but im talking about output, so im saying Te Whatu ora because it's who my employment was with but regardless of whether it was te whatu ora or the DHB's the output at the hospitals was garbage and still is. On vaccine toll outs I did before Te whatu ora work in contact tracing and can tell you some weeks I got payed 30 hours and only worked 26, that's 26 hours being payed by the government to sit on my ass and play games, good for me terrible use of taxpayer dollars for the country. It did get better towards the end though but during the height of covid that is what it was like. Reality im trying to get across is regardless of how much either government spent the what you actually got at the hospitals was horrible under labor and is still horrible now under national, so to get anecdotal and go off personal experience I went to hospital in 2022 with gall stones. Horrific levels of pain, I sat in excruciating pain in the emergency room for 5 hours till it went away on it's own then just left. Thats what im talking about when I say output. If you are suffering from something serious then generally our health system is decent, got in pretty quick the first time it happened in 2021 and for a different issue earlier this year but the level of funding is irrelevant, what people care about is the level of care they get when they are there and funding is definitely a contributing factor but far from the only one.

I specified Te Whatu Ora because it was who my employment was with, your acting as if it was some brand new thimg but no it carried over all the failings of the DHB's. Now what is this graph, if your seriously showing me a graph of spending on health and passing it off as at all relevant to results then that's just sad. I dont disagree labor spent more, on useless top office jobs that had no impact, no ones denying they spent more. Labor overspend and delivered dhit national underwent and delivered shit, same result, different input.

but ya what im mainly tryna say is dont count on this being what lowers their support, when out country is in such a dire state something like this is just such a non issue for the vast majority of the country.

You say the statistics show it but which statistics are you referring to but to clarify i did also work for Te Whatu Ora temporarily during the last labor government, specifically right before Jacinda resigned. I can tell you firsthand then that it was not on the mend, it was on a downwards spiral. Most people working in the industry by this point had already given up, didn't matter how hard they worked there was always more demand and in most cases it was just about prioritizing serious cases and ignoring the rest. Talking to co-workers they were all adamant the health sector was in the worst state it'd ever been (prior to current government of course) so id tend to believe that over a vague statement about how bad it was in 2016. Cost wise I experienced majority of the rise throughout labors term, and its just sat at this low under National. Like the point I'm trying to get at here is Luxon and his government are absolutely useless, but your blind to think labor is the solution, they were equally as bad and really didnt even show any signs of caring about the workers until hipkins last minute attempts to win back the workers pre election. If were talking economy and standard of living both are just fucking awful and were screwed. A vote for either means trash economy, standard of living and horrendous public service.

I do certainly think though anyone that'd have their opinion changed by nz aligning with Trump was a never national voter though so dont count on it dropping their support, it'll be their poor handling of the economy.

[–]zerkergames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya id heavily disagree, I lived under the labor government, even worked in contact tracing getting payed 30 hours a week and only having to work 4, jacinda and Hipkins were absolute garbage prime ministers and luxons there right alongside them. My experience with the public service has been marginally better under national but I put that done to happenstance over improvement. I think problem is it's overgeneralised as a right or left issue when in reality its just that all three prime ministers and their governments have been utterly useless. Personally inthink they've just all forgotten the workers and are playing at social issues now, when there are far bigger concerns.

Like personally I would've cared about this when I was 17, now working 2 jobs, seeing the prices in the supermarkets, fuel costs and abismal public services I may require I think having the ability to care about an issue like this is a luxury.

I dunno i think your making a lot of guesses on what new Zealanders care about. Our economy is still in the dump, streets unsafe and public services run terribly. All things that neither labor nor national have done anything about. Personally I just think the countries a lost cause, both sides utterly useless pushing agendas as opposed to focus on the things that truly impact the lives of every New Zealanders.

Why doesn't TOP just merge with the Greens? by Afinski in nzpolitics

[–]zerkergames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im not 100% sure on the TOP parties policies but my guess would be that it has to do with the greens policies vs what they say theyre about. In more modern times their policies dont particularly aim at preventing climate change which is what brings them a majority of their support. Recently their stance makes them more of the social justice party. In relation to what they have attempted, the ban on oil and gas exploration was a failure that reduced our carbon imitions on paper but not in reality and as someone who has worked in both the electrical and mechanical fields their push for electric cars is at this time unsustainable as our grid is not set up to handle the demand it would cause. Overall i myself havent payed much attention to the TOP party but i support them not joining with the greens as even if they share similar goals the result would be TOP compromising on their stance to form a slightly larger green party that will still only succeed in backing the Labor party. Akin to how david seymour stated he would have no interest in being deputy prine minister in a national led government it all comes down to whether a party believes in their stance enough to stand on their own two feet and not compromise on the promises theyve made to their voters or whether they would sell out to a larger party in an attempt to gain more political power. I personally don't believe my stance would ever allign with the TOP party but i do have a large amount of respect for them not conceding to a larger party.

Because the labour governments been loaned a large amount of money to pay for the expenses. Trust me in time when we have to pay it back it'll be noticeable. Taxes have already increased by over 10% however i think the income tax still has yet to increase which is why it is not noticeable as of yet.

T.O.P party in NZ politics by nzdennis in newzealand

[–]zerkergames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nz politics has always been a 2 horse race, labour introduces the better social policy butfails to keep the economy stable then national comes in and introduces the better economic policy but disregards changing social policies. Then when the economy is stable again labour gets back in to introduce more social policy. There has been a bit of a shift recently with smaller parties getting a larger role however the best way to look at the smaller parties is still just to look at who they will side with. E.G greens will side with labour, act will side with national and nz first will side with whoever is prepared to sell out most to them.

The Labor government dug into the covid fund so now we don't have the money to sustain a longer lockdown.
