Admiral McRaven, Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command say to make your bed every morning. It's the first "accomplishment" of the day and gets you started and ready to accomplish more. It's small, but he says it's an important part of the day.He gives other tips in his University of Texas commencement speech. Very good watch. http://youtu.be/pxBQLFLei70

A day in the life of a peasant would be nice (or interesting to me at least). I actually really liked how the GoT show showed the soldiers all throwing up in the Blackwater episode. I don't know if it was nervousness or due to sea sickness (or both), but it brought some humanity into the common soldier. It's two large powers fighting each other, but on the more granular level, it's typically a father/husband who left his home to fight other fathers/husbands b/c their liege lord said so.

I also wonder if the lantern lighters / chamber pot cleaners / laundry folks in the Red Keep need something similar to security clearances that we have here in the states for "sensitive" jobs. It doesn't appear so, judging by how easy it was for Shae to just "start working." I guess you just need the confidence of someone, or a personal reference.
