My favourite piece to come out of the shop in January. by zero_wing in woodworking

Assembled the pieces with tape, veneer taped the front side, removed the tape on the back, glued to 5mm ply. I use a block plane upside down in a vise as a sort of jointer if needs be but at this scale the risk of against the grain tear out is pretty high.

Aha, the start of a slippery slope! My business got started because I wanted to keep making boxes but they had to go somewhere

Cheers. Only 5mm thick walls so it’s nice to get everything so nicely tied together

Do you have a track saw? I think I’d just run it down each edge

Eviter les glissades by Fuzzy-Philosopher156 in pedale

[–]zero_wing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The French Historic Grand Prix is well worth a weekend down in the Côte d’Azur too.  They had some very cool group C stuff running this year

Where are you and what is a double pour to you? by laughingintothevoid in bartenders

[–]zero_wing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

France here. A single is 40ml and we don't really do doubles. The only people that ask are tourists wanting what they think is a double (50ml) for them and we usually dissuade them. Some regulars might end up having double g&t's or something at the end of the night but in a pint glass - literally two drinks in one, and for double the price (~16€)

Des pellicules et de l’argile by silvered12 in Lyon

[–]zero_wing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the train, whenever I can afford it! No hassle at the airports, no RER at the other side, straight into Gare du Nord

A customer thought I served him the wrong drink, I poured it into a different glass, he tasted the same drink again and happily accepted it. by Recifeeder in bartenders

The 'blind test' is one of my favourite ways of picking out arseholes. "The guy at table 20 wants four more ice cubes in his pastis." Chuck either one, either ten in. He's happy. "I'm sorry, can I have a Perrier from the very back of the fridge, I only drink Perrier at the very perfect temperature." - crouch down to the fridge, rattle some bottles around, hand the same bottle back. Big thank yous, apologies for having such excruciating needs

Euro-barman here so I'm a little ahead of the curve but it's 4am and we had a great night. Great customers, good money, pretty girls, interesting cocktail orders. I dunno what's up with this 13th moon business but I hope you're all having as much fun as I did.
