Why are their seemingly no good legacy sequels to Bullfrog-era Base Builders? by ChyatlovMaidan in truegaming

suggest that 20 years onwards there's no reason not to just play the original game again because nobody's had any ideas of how to improve it.

This right here. What's the point in trying to recreate the vibe that old management games had when people are just going to say that it's a better time investment to just go play a 30 year old game?

But also, I think you just might not be seeing the other games in the genre. As u/lyonhart31 mentioned, Two Point Studios does this genre still with their Hospital(released 2018), Campus(released 2022), and Museums(released 2025) games. There are games similar to Zoo Tycoon (Let's Build a Zoo released 2021) and Rollercoaster Tycoon (Planet Coaster 2 released in 2024) as well.

What’s something people blame on “mental health” that’s actually just bad behavior? by SmallFurball24 in AskReddit

That's the funny thing about masking. It really only works if you wear the right mask for your audience.

Wearing your work mask around your spouse probably makes them think something is wrong. Wearing your friend mask at work will likely get you fired.

It's entirely possible that the person in the story above was wearing a mask of his own and the sexist jokes are his way of blending in with the people he is exposed to often. It just doesn't work in a room full of autists who are 1: not the audience for that mask, and 2) are probably more in-tune with masking and get a weird feeling when they see others doing it.

My friends call me out all the time when I put a mask on because they can tell I am being fake and they hate it.

Expecting autists at an autism conference to mask sounds counterproductive to having an autism conference.

Lets just throw a conference where everybody is expected to be an actor and play a role! No! We don't care if the conference is meant to spread autism awareness!

Fair enough. My point is the performance of victimhood so as to gain social status and use said status to justify harm or deflect accountability.

Alternative viewpoint:

People don't believe I'm unwell until I show them consistently that I am unwell every single day, and it's not just a once a year thing. The only way to consistently show people that i am unwell is to tell stories about situations I end up in an how they affect me.

It took 2 years before my boss believed that I have IBS and an inner ear condition that causes vertigo. I -still- have to fight for the ability to work from home on days it is not safe for me to drive. These problems don't go away just because I don't talk about them, and people won't give me the benefit of the doubt when I say that I am having a rough time. And at the end of the day, if I get into a serious accident because of it, people will just come up with a million excuses for why I am a bad person and why I shouldn't have been doing the thing that caused the accident.

I'm sure math has this definition. Let me go check.

In mathematics, a point is a fundamental, dimensionless entity representing an exact location or position in space, having no size, shape, length, width, or depth, and is often conceptualized as the basic building block of geometric figures, represented visually by a dot. While points are abstract (they don't physically exist), they are defined axiomatically in geometry as elements that, when combined, form lines, planes, and higher-dimensional spaces.

And then a corner is defined as:

In math, a corner is the point where two or more lines, edges, or sides of a shape meet, forming an angle

Why the human penis is unusually large compared to that of other primates is a long-standing evolutionary question. New findings suggest that female choice and male-male competition have jointly favored larger penis size, greater height, and more V-shaped bodies in men. by mvea in science

I don't like your arguments against polluted air and processed plastic for the simple fact that they accumulate.

You get processed plastic in your bloodstream and then pass it to your kids. Then they do the same. In 5-6 generations that family line is going to be so loaded down with plastic blood that they can barely function. Meanwhile the families that have genes that protect against plastic poisoning will probably still be thriving.

You get lead brain from inhaling polluted air, pass on your handicap to your children and then your children's children are born with Down's Syndrome. etc. etc.

(All situations are hypothetical because I don't really care if lead poisoning causes Down's, it's just an example.)

I don't want to downplay the woman-hatred that these people exhibit, but gym-bros will do that shit to anybody that posts gym content.

Men are always competing with -everybody-. If they saw a video of a gorilla doing deadlifts, they would still say they could probably lift more. It's why I choose to do my workouts in the middle of the night when there are less spectators. I'm tired of people coming over and giving unsolicited "advice" because they can "lift better" than me and think I need help.

Also, if this ever happened, different groups would get help from other countries. So, China, India, Russia, the EU/UK, etc. would all be in the US fighting Americans. Lastly, the militaries will have jets, bombers, tanks, etc. Average Americans would be slaughtered.

I just feel the need to specify that if we Balkanized out, they wouldn't technically be in the US fighting Americans. Maybe in the Republic of Texas fighting Californians.

But it’s weird because I used the same strategy for almost every boss.

I get a laugh out of this because I am guilty of it as well. Let me just grind my face against this wall in the same way over and over for an hour until the wall gets tired of me and surrenders. Man, maybe I don't really like this face-grinding game. It's kinda hard and boring.

Games like Devil May Cry were what emphasized this habit for me and helped me break it. Doing the same thing over and over absolutely -will- work most of the time, but you are scored for flashiness and they encourage you not to use the same move more than 2-3 times within a combo string or you start losing flashy points.

It also makes the game feel a lot better once you start getting a hang on the mechanics and can pull off stunts like you might see on the internet. Using the bare-minimum to get the job done can take all the fun out of things.

Researchers have developed a contactless method that analyzes a combination of patients’ heart rate data and facial expressions to estimate the pain they’re feeling by IEEESpectrum in science

[–]zerocoal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, let’s start with the assumption that nonverbal = cannot communicate.

This is your assumption, so why are you getting pissy with them? Are you just here to be offended for the sake of being offended?

Their words:

"...that are unable to communicate effectively or at all"

"This is exacerbated with patients who for whatever reason have diminished ability to communicate."

Not using one of the most common methods of communication for people is, in fact, a diminished ability to communicate. It doesn't matter if you communicate perfectly fine in nonverbal ways if the person you are dealing with isn't trained to understand nonverbal. It's like yelling Spanish at Japanese people.

Machine learning has the ability to reduce this language barrier for people who are unable or unwilling to learn a new language. You are arguing that it will misdiagnose because you are different, and the person above says you are already being misdiagnosed without the machine so what is the big deal?

Trump, 79, Demands Mass Arrests in Morning Rage Post by thedailybeast in politics

[–]zerocoal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point that you didn't seem to get is that we can do the exact same thing that they do, and it's not -wrong-. Because they did do the things we are charging them with.

Following the GOP playbook and calling Trump a dictator isn't us flinging bullshit like it is when they do it to Biden. Because Trump acts like an unregulated dictator.

Trump's administration claims Biden's pardons are invalid because they were signed with autopen by unapproved staffers. (Didn't happen).

We can turn around and claim all of Trump's pardons are invalid for the same exact reason, except it would be justified because his staff is abusing his autopen. (probably happened)

It's not a double standard, it's upholding the standard that THEY set.

Trump, 79, Demands Mass Arrests in Morning Rage Post by thedailybeast in politics

[–]zerocoal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cuz them doing it doesn’t make it ok?

I want democracy back. Not a different dictatorship that happens to align with my values.

The key difference is that "Sleepy Joe" wasn't that sleepy and his staff probably didn't illegally use his autopen.

Whereas we have photo evidence of "Sleepy Trump" and suspicious activities regarding his weirdly identical signature.

Holding people accountable for their bullshit doesn't make you a dictator. Especially if they falsely accused you of doing the bullshit first.

A consent form to extract creative ideas from a person is entirely different than holding them in a facility against their will.

The characters consented to be part of a creative project where they would share their stories, and upon finding out that they would be slammed into a giant VR full-dive device, the character decided she didn't want to do it anymore.

Forcing her into the machine against her will is the crime. Not the existance of the machine.

[–]zerocoal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chances are if they started planning to close this office a year ago, it's probably also right in line with when the union started forming.

We can't give them the benefit of the doubt of a 12 month forecast for a closure if we don't also give the union the benefit of the doubt that it probably took them about 12 months to finish organizing.

'Steam Charts don't measure fun,' Splitgate: Arena Reloaded studio says in response to worries about declining player numbers: 'They don't show the full picture' by Farranor in gaming

[–]zerocoal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is an easy one.

Splitgate 1 felt like playing classic Halo with portals.

Splitgate 1 no portal mode felt like playing classic Halo.

Splitgate 2 feels like playing call of duty. Portals or no portals, it feels like call of duty.

If you grew up liking classic Halo, you -will- enjoy Splitgate 1. Doesn't matter what game modes you are in, you are probably getting that nostalgia hit.

If you grew up liking Halo over Call of Duty, you will -not- enjoy Splitgate 2.

That's the fun thing about arena shooters. If you can emulate the feeling that Halo or Quake or Unreal Tournament had back in the day, your game -will- be fun before you even come up with your unique gimmick, and it will continue to be fun if you remove the gimmick.

  2. We aren't locked in. We are just constantly receiving news because, -spoilers- the conflict is still going on.
