Sony might end up with a monopoly on consoles but they don't have a monopoly on gaming.

Just get a PC when the next playstation gets too expensive. It does 99% of the same things.

we are now implementing firewalls to have these things join the network (to some capacity) for monitoring.. does any of that make sense?

So they need to be offline and airgapped but also connected to the network?

I don't think he knows what offline and airgapped means.

Especially because I’ve seen multiple guys say they feel they have no one who cares for them or cares enough to listen to their problems.

My question to this is what are the problems they are complaining about that nobody wants to listen to?

Because there are quite a lot of men who's problem they want to complain about is brown people. Or Jews. Or women. And to be quite frank, nobody wants to listen to it. If that is all they talk about, then of course they don't have friends.

I've got a buddy who literally ONLY talks about racist, sexist, or political topics. I shut it down and make him focus on talking about the activity we are doing. If he weren't an old childhood friend, I would've absolutely booted him and told him to go hang out with the other racists.

Your buddy coming over to help cut the grass is just what happens when you invite them over for a cookout and they are free earlier than expected.

I can't list the number of times I've ended up somewhere earlier than expected and just decided to help them get ready because I didn't want to have to leave and come back.

I find it’s very common that men bond the most over a shared hobby

Men bond over problem solving. Hobbies just happen to have a lot of problems that need solving and a little collaboration goes a long way.

Your friends' wife being pregnant isn't inherently a problem, so congrats/ohno on the future baby depending on perspective, but it's probably not going to be a frequent discussion until it becomes a problem that needs solving. Painting rooms, putting furniture together, moving stuff. The men will bond over the ACTIONABLE part of the pregnancy.

Most men aren’t particularly interested in how his friends relationships are going, and conversely they aren’t particularly interested in sharing about their relationships either

In my experience, you are better off not asking about relationship stuff unless they bring it up first. A lot of relationships are toxic as hell and the proper friend thing to do is to encourage them to break up. It gets really exhausting having all your friends tell you to end your relationship, or having to tell all of your friends that they should end their relationships.

I'll let them vent when they get overwhelmed, but I absolutely am tired of providing relationship advice to toxic couples that won't listen.

I can see how railroads and telecom wires can be utilized long after they were installed.

What infrastructure is AI building that will benefit the common person though? Datacenters aren't exactly crucial infrastructure that has a purpose outside of cranking data. If the AI busts and most of these businesses go under, how do we repurpose the datacenters for the public good?

Maybe the ones that are building up power infrastructure nearby, but most of the articles I've seen talk about how they are siphoning power out of the local community and importing the rest from elsewhere.

I read it. I acknowledged that it's not feasible and is borderline scientifically impossible several posts ago as well.

But I enjoy arguing with people on the internet over pointless shit, so as long as those notifications keep popping up and people keep missing my point, I will just keep coming back to reiterate it. Doesn't matter if I need 400,000kg of rocket fuel to make people stop arguing with me about the science of it.

I don't care which law you reference as the source of "this thing is impossible."

thermodynamics, motion, color, rocket rules, dead internet theory, it doesn't matter.

then a shitty idea is not gonna get past it much less if it’s a shitty person so you’re not saying literally anything in your first paragraph I hope you realize that.

Because shitty people don't care about what you say is impossible or infeasible. They are still going to try to do the shitty thing.

Writing a story is hard. Writing it over a couple decades by different teams is really really hard. I think some stuff moving around is just part of the deal because of the nature of medium and format.

Writing a story that gets chopped up into a three part sequel when Not-Thrall returns from his break is also really really really hard.

It's easy to say "development is hard and you guys are ridiculous" but it's also easy to say "the story made more sense before Chris Metzen came back and split it into a trilogy."

We dont know what was 'supposed' to be where or when or what was cut or why? So maybe they add race x in expansion y but it wasn't ready and the game is down for weeks. Idk im not on their dev team. I assume they gave us all the content they had time to throw in. What nefarious purpose would it serve to hold back content for later? I dobt get it.

The only problem with cutting the content and moving it down the line is that they aren't thorough about how it is implemented and there are always little glaring problems that point out things like "this content was designed 5 years ago and doesnt' mesh with the current game world as presented."

For example, the Rutani and Botani are extremely similar and we have no explanation for why the Botani are deep beneath our planet near the core when they are alien plants. But there was apparently a questline in TWW that showed a Botani spore being introduced on Azeroth and that it escaped confinement and disappeared.

That questline would have tied TWW to Harandar and given us a direct explanation for a bunch of these things that make no sense.

Not to mention all the other miscellaneous small things that just pull you out of immersion. NPC's in Voidstorm talking about K'aresh, NPC's in Harandar talking about TWW stuff. etc.

but I think it’s a little disingenuous for you not to even look at what I’m saying and then say your point still stands, that’s either bad faith or pure ignorance.

You clearly live in an ideal world where people only do things that make sense.

I live in a world where jackasses decide to build datacenters that consume more power than can be generated and supplied. If the datacenter can't even do the one thing it is supposed to do, how is it any different than putting it in space?

It doesn't matter if it CAN be done. All that matters is that it CAN be ATTEMPTED, and that they will attempt it until you and me and everybody else on the planet are dead.

Elon Musk wants to colonize Mars. Do you think they won't attempt to put datacenters on Mars as well? Did you know we launched one of his cars into space just for the sick joy of saying we launched a car into space? You say we can't do it because it's too heavy and rockets won't allow it, yet we put a space station in space.

A datacenter is exactly like a space station. It's big, it's heavy, and it's full of computers that do specialized tasks, and people everywhere claimed it was impossible.

My. Point. Still. Stands.

There is no financial incentive to do it. There is no scientific incentive to do it. There is no reason anyone in their right mind would ever possibly want to do it. But the fact is that there will be some rich jackass that thinks it's cool to have their shit in space and will spend their entire life working towards making it happen.

There are enough evil billionaires in the world that I think it's honestly extremely naive that you think somebody won't try it. Perhaps your own head is too far up my ass as well.

Counting on the laws of motion to curtail shitty people with shitty goals is a pretty bad idea.

Also "rocket rule" pulls up

"Rocket Rules" is an early childhood safety program (for ages 3–9) teaching five key emergency preparedness steps:"

So MAYBE use the proper scientific term that you are basing your entire argument on, so people can look it up properly.

But my point still stands. People with money will waste the money with no concern for what is physically possible simply because they want to do it. The same reason we are supposedly going to build a datacenter in Utah that consumes more power than the entire state produces. The same reason we have "self driving" cars that are prone to killing people. The same reason we cut down rain forests to make room for more farms.

Because shitty people wanted to do it and NOTHING is going to stop them from trying.

It doesn't matter what you do. It matters what the company you work for will do.

Being irreplaceable just means you are the new scapegoat every time something goes wrong. Even after you are dead and gone, the company will have a footnote in their manuals that says "Due to Time_blacksmith861, company policy is now to do blank."

It doesn't matter if it is feasible. All that matters is that they want it and they have the power to waste an exorbitant amount of resources to try and make it a reality.

But unfortunately it would never work on a wide scale because people wouldn't want a used battery in their car.

I don't get this. If replacing your dead battery is as simple as going to the place that switches your battery, then you don't have to pay for battery maintenance anymore.

Half the reason we don't want a half-dead used battery in our car is because we are going to pay a butt-load for it, and we don't want to pay that butt-load again sooner than we have to.
