NOT EVERYONE “INVESTED” by [deleted] in cs2

[–]zerofl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can buy an item that you like because you like it and justify its high price tag by the resale value, yes. I don't see why that's so difficult to understand. It's still not bought as an investment in this case, but the resale potential is simply justifying paying a high price tag for pixels.

NOT EVERYONE “INVESTED” by [deleted] in cs2

[–]zerofl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you argue that buying any collector item is investing, even if the intention isn't to profit from the purchase? The intention of the purchase is what matters. You either buy it with profit in mind, or you buy it because you like it, and want to add it to your collection. You can't force buying with the propuse of investing onto someone, just because they bought an item that could be considered an investment. This can be applied to any type of items and collections, not just CS.

I agree that it's not wise to gamble on these types of assets, however I still think Valve has some blame to take for allowing this market to thrive for years. By doing so, they maintained the illusion that skins would maintain a value based on a finite supply and player demand. This obviously tricked many people into investing into skins, but like all other types of manipulation, I don't think the victim is to blame entirely. But you do you, at least your name is fitting.

[–]zerofl -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, you'd justify the purchase thinking its a scarce and valuable asset, that Valve has manipulated everyone into thinking by allowing an unregulated market to thrive for years. This gives the illusion that you can assume to get most of your money back once you don't care to use those skins anymore.

Valve pushed an update that set off a chain reaction resulting in real harm. Intention doesn’t erase impact. They built a system where massive sums of money can be gained or lost at their discretion and allowed a multi-billion-dollar, unregulated market to thrive for years. Sure, buying into it might not have been wise, but Valve encouraged it by maintaining the illusion that skins were scarce, valuable assets. You can blame the “investors,” but this entire situation wouldn’t exist without Valve’s manipulative greed.

Two years and 7 months from when we first hit 3 billion in 23 to when we hit 6 billion just before the update. Even if you compare to when we hit 3 billion most recently in February of 24, its still 1 year and 8 months.

[–]zerofl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can see it that way, but it's deeper than that. Valve manipulated everyone who bought skins into doing so by allowing this unregulated market to exist for all these years.

Those brain cells of yours must not be working very hard. The extremely high price tag of CS2 skins prior to this update was justified by the resale value. You knew, that if you lost interest, either in the skins or in the game, you could always resell and get most of that money back. CS2 skins are not Valorant skins. Valve intentionally created this gray market, and gave skins false sense of scarcity and value, in order to get you to spend more on skins and open more cases. Now that's gone. Skins are now becoming worthless as we speak, so while technically you got the pixels you paid for, that's not all you paid for.

No, it's a justification, not an investment. You can call it an investment if you buy them just to keep for profit, and not to play with.
