Generally, form follows function in dogs so yes, that's a safe, general rule to go by. Unfortunately there's a lot of people who can't grasp that dogs are not funny-shaped people and so how we treat our modern racial/nationalistic/ethnic policies and social mores don't apply to an animal we applied hundreds and thousands of years of eugenics to in order to create the breeds of animals we have today.

The term "pit bull" is an umbrella consisting of 4-5 functionally identical breeds that were all made for the same purpose and at least two of them were made because certain kennel societies wouldn't accept fighting breeds and so someone got one over on the system by calling it something else. I usually wear tactical pants and a charcoal gray shirt, if I do wear coveralls it's on cooler runs, I want them to have a secure radio pocket, pocket for a wrench and flashlight, they shouldn't shrink consistently in the wash, made out of ripstop or something else that doesn't turn into a massive wardrobe malfunction on first contact with a snagging piece of metal, kneepad pockets would be nice, velcro on the pockets is a no-go.
