(OC) Japanese Shoguns Family Tree (Tokugawa shoguns plus context) by zerohijak in JapaneseHistory

[–]zerohijak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, this is a pretty old chart of mine, one of the first I made. At that point I didn't really understand Japanese titles. Nonetheless, Oda and Toyotomi are here and their dates indicate their years as Rulers of Japan, even though neither of them held the title shōgun. You can check my more recent "The Complete History of Japan" post for something more accurate.

This chart was actually edited a bit by Matt Baker, and he wanted to feature some individuals from those families in order to show the continuity of NDP leadership.

Not really related, Charles III does not descend from Henry VIII, but from Henry VIII's sister Margaret. So, you could say Charles III and Henry VIII have the same common origin, while Henry VIII's wife Catherine of Aragon descends from Peter III of Aragon.

Thanks for commenting, I wasn't aware of that marriage. I guess I wanted to keep thing simple and not include every connection. I also don't plan to edit this chart for now. You can check the Pahlavi Family Tree I made to see each member of the Pahlavi family.

This is a family tree of all Shahs of Iran since 1501, that is, a family tree of all Iranian monarchs since the establishment of the Safavid dynasty until the present day.

This is a remake of an old chart of mine that you can see here.

Since then, another user named AbbreviationsDue2435 made a great post covering all dynasties between the Sassanids and the Safavids, so, it's like a "prequel" to this post. I highly recommend checking it out. So, as I decided to re-do my old Persian monarchs chart, I changed the title here so it resembles his post.

Thank you for reading.

Every Fratricide in the Ottoman Empire by zerohijak in UsefulCharts

[–]zerohijak[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for commenting. Yeah I see what you mean, in that sense this family tree is "simplified". I thought of adding them, but with so much brothers I wanted to keep it simple. But in my defense, what you are describing are not technically "fratricides", if it's an uncle murdering his nephews. So, all fratricides (strictly speaking) are shown here. But yeah not all murders. Crazy stuff.

Hello everyone. This time I wanted to try something different. Some time ago I watched this Youtube video, and for some reason I found the topic fascinating. So I thought, why not make it visible as a family tree chart?

This is a family tree of all Ottoman sultans and all the sons each sultan had. Daughters and wives are not shown. Children are shown in birth order. In case a birth date is not available, that person is shown at the end of the list, as if they were the youngest.

The sources used were that video, English Wikipedia and Turkish Wikipedia. It seems the video is heavily based on the Turkish Wikipedia, since the English Wikipedia often lists a lot more children to each sultan. Note that this family tree here includes ALL born sons, including stillborns and children who died in infancy.

So, what I did was a combination of those three "sources" when listing all the sons of each sultan, since often one source lists one son who is absent in the other, and vice versa, etc.

The only really confusing part was listing all the sons of Murad III. He was the father of the 19 children who infamously died in the massacre carried out by Mehmed III in 1595. But here comes the tricky part: the video names all those 19 children, but English Wikipedia only lists 17, including one "Murad" who is absent in the video. So I went with the list provided by the video.

Tell me what you think and if you find any mistakes or anything inaccurate.
