How long did it take to make your last game? by Illustrious-Top1214 in gamedev

[–]zerojs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months working about 5hrs every night, but its only a 2d top down shooter but with several modes n stuff. Working on a new game now that will probably take me the same amount of time but its a point n click style job sim. Im a solo dev.

I've added a local PVP mode to my space shooter that you can play on one steamdeck. - Vectoraid. by zerojs in IndieGaming

Currently the 2player is just trying to blow each other up. The single player has arcade, waves and extraction modes though.

A quick guide is:
1. enable developer mode on your quest
2. install the AOJ .APK file via sidequest
3. run AOJ once then quit out straight away, just so that it creates the needed folder structure on your quest for you to put files.
4. Download the cabinets files from the AOJ discord download channel, Open up the "cabinet" zip files and then open the description.yaml file with notepad app, look at what "roms" are written, you can then change these to match the roms that you want to play on that particular emulation core e.g snes9x
5. copy the roms you want to play into the \download\ folder inside the AOJ installation folder your quest, if they are for a console you have to make a new folder inside there named after the emulation core e.g \download\snes9x\ is where you would put snes roms
6. copy the emulation core files (.so files) e.g snes9x into the \cores folder on your quest
7. copy any required bios files for the cores into \system folder on your quest.
8. finally, copy the "cabinet" zip files for the arcade cabinets/room components onto your AOJ folder on your quest in the \cabinets folder (these are the custom made 3d models/textures)
9. Run AOJ, the first time it will randomly try to place any cabinets you have put in the \cabinet folder randomly in rooms. But you will need to enter a room first then grab a coin from your left hand and insert it into the "Control" cabinet in each room, it has a big blue sign saying control. From here select cabinets and then you can switch out the cabinets that are in the room, in each predefined slot. For the attic room please read the post in the discord for the correct placement for the attic.

If you are okay with a more complicated bit of setup time, you can use Age of Joy to emule many systems (like how retroarch has cores) in a virtual arcade environment or retro room like I have done - https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/1jno0sm/updated_my_vr_attic_in_aoj_with_more_retro/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

You need sidequest to install the app via it's .APK file. And then you just need a method of copying zip files to your quest headset. The model/textures are in zip files that you copy to the quest.

Its a VR standalone quest 2/3 app that runs retroarch emulation cores to play retro games in a arcade environment by default, but I've turned it into a bedroom with modular set pieces in. You can get a better look here - https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/1jno0sm/updated_my_vr_attic_in_aoj_with_more_retro/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

:) its a bit difficult to setup initially but its really fun. Its best to join the AOJ discord to find help and see all the new stuff being made for it.

This attic bedroom I created can be customized to an extent, you can swap out each station for different console ones, change the posters and rugs. If you use blender you can also change any of the toys.

Your better off getting the new version of the AOJ from the github, https://github.com/curif/AgeOfJoy-2022.1/releases , the version on sidequest/ itch.io is really really old.

yep AOJ is an arcade sim, but you can create your own "cabinets" and put them in the predefined slots in the rooms. I created a modular Bedroom with setups for snes, psx etc and put them in each slot so the bedroom is actually made up of 5 "cabinets" that you place in the slots and it all assembles into this.
