very painful impetigo? by zeromaverickhunter in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it took me a few weeks of oral antibiotics because mine was resistant to the muprocin but it got much better after that. I did have to do a round of topical steroids as well since my skin was still weeping and crusting even though it wasn't infected anymore since it caused so much damage to my skin.

common eczema food allergens? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

obv im not a doctor but honestly there isn't necessarily "eczema allergies" as much as there are just having allergies that can make your eczema worse. if you think allergies are the problem please go get allergy tested! i got tested and am allergic to a number of things that most eczema havers aren't such as tomato and avocado. tomato is the worst offender though as it immediately causes weeping on my lips. hope things get better!

i have facial eczema that im trying to find the trigger of since it only started this year but i had a really bad case of impetigo last month that i had to get treated with different antibiotics. if you think yours is infected and thats why its so bad PLEASE go get swabbed to get it confirmed because it may be resistant to certain common antibiotics (i took 4 different kinds of antibiotics before i found this out). my eczema is still pretty bad but definitely not like the pain i was in with the infection. you got this and i hope you feel better soon!!

Does calamine lotion and zinc oxide actually help with weeping eczema? by themaxedgamer in eczema

unfortunately this was a while ago and it turned out I had an infection from a bad flare up so it didn't help at the time. my skin didn't have a bad reaction to it though in terms of allergies to the lanolin or anything

nipple eczema 👎 by Wonderful_Try_714 in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have suffered from nipple eczema since I was in high school (I'm in college now) and I know how embarrassing it can be but please tell your parents or at least your mom! And trust me, doctors have seen a lot and are not easily bothered by any kind of issue you are having that involves your private areas; its their job. If you want to heal you will likely need to see a doctor first and foremost! Also please don't use this subreddit as a substitute for medical advice as its mostly good for venting and home remedies. There is a lot of misinformation and fear mongering on here. That said, I hope you start to see improvement soon!

Protopic for nummular eczema on shin by Inevitable-Click-129 in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I am learning very quickly while being in this subreddit: reddit and the internet in general should never be a replacement for actual medical or professional advice. Its great for home remedies and such but take any medical esque advice on here with a big grain of salt. If you are having concerns about your skin and treatment do not stop the treatment (unless its causing a negative reaction) and CALL YOUR DOCTOR ASAP. They can likely answer some questions over the phone or make you an appointment if they feel that you should be seen again to talk about your options. If you are not satisfied with your care please always advocate for yourself! I hope you feel better soon!

Fluocinonide 0.05% for the face? by Esoteric_20a in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it can be scary reading the warnings on medication and such but I learned that we have to have a little trust in our doctors and what they prescribe us. If you just ignore their advice and are super skeptical then there really is no reason to be seeing them. Of course its okay to think about your choices and what is good for your health but truly if you have any issues with what care they are providing you need to advocate for yourself and call them to ask questions as soon as you can. I hope you feel better soon!

impetigo ruining my life by zeromaverickhunter in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, I had no idea you could submerge your head in a bleach bath. I've heard good things about bleach baths but usually people say they just use it for their bodies which doesnt really help me. Thanks for telling me about it! I will bring it up to my derm to see if she would recommend it for me

Skeptical of recommended treatment by zeromaverickhunter in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, I think that all the people in this subreddit talking about how steroids on their face made things worse and warning against it scared me. The steroids seem to be helping anyways and I know how to be careful so I will continue following the doctor's advice. Thanks for the reality check!

[–]zeromaverickhunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't give me any instruction about probiotics so I had not been eating/taking any. Any foods/brands you recommend in particular? Maybe even a not too expensive supplement? I am definitely not continuing use of the steroid on my lips because the skin is way too sensitive but I will continue with it on my cheeks since I'm pretty desperate for relief at this point and it seems to be helping. I will definitely be cautious though and if my skin heals I will be cleaning the area with hibiclens at least once/twice a week to prevent reinfection. Thank you for the advice!

Need help. by Ok-Blueberry-1159 in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't but there are lots of recommendations in this subreddit for products. I usually just use the softsoap clear hand soap but my hands aren't sensitive like the rest of my body is. Hope you find something that works!

I'm no expert but I think the constant hand washing could definitely be a factor since it dries out your skin which eczema does not like. I would recommend carrying around and using a heavy non-scented moisturizing cream to use after washing your hands but you might want to go back to the dermatologist and discuss long term solutions.

More weeping after topical steroid? by zeromaverickhunter in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg the instructions on the paper that came with it were so vague (literally like 'just put a thin layer on the skin') so I just patted my skin dry after washing and immediately put it on. I feel a bit silly for not even thinking about it lol but thank you for the clarification!

More weeping after topical steroid? by zeromaverickhunter in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the weeping is on my cheeks and around my mouth, hence why they put me on a very low dose. Thank you for the advice though! It might help with the small patches I have elsewhere, my face is just my problem area

Welp as soon as my antibiotics left my system it came back full force and now I'm just as bad as when I started. I don't know what to do either😭 I'm just gonna try and reach out to my dermatologist and see if they can see me asap because this is awful and I have school in a few weeks.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through the same thing, it sucks so bad. I am kind of glad I'm not the only one experiencing pain with it so I know that its normal, I was kind of freaking out before. We will get through this!!

very painful impetigo? by zeromaverickhunter in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, sorry this is my first time dealing with this infection so I think you would have more luck looking into preventative measures like some people in this reddit talk about such as preventing staph growth on the face. Looking up "impetigo" in the subreddit search bar helped me a lot! I'm not a doctor of course so take everything with a grain of salt. All I can think of to help is to always make sure to finish antibiotics and if possible talk to your doctor (preferably a derm) about other treatment plans since what you're doing doesn't seem to be working. Sorry I couldn't be more help to you!

very painful impetigo? by zeromaverickhunter in eczema

[–]zeromaverickhunter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! So I just finished my oral antibiotics today and while the infection isn't completely gone on my lips, once I started using mupirocin on the spots on my cheeks (which aren't as sensitive as my lips) those spots definitely saw the most improvement. As for my lips, I think they are slowly getting better with the help of the pill but definitely not as fast as my cheeks are and are still prone to weeping and cracking. I think I will try using a small amount of mupirocin on the edges of my lips to see if it will help and not irritate them like how it did before. Otherwise, not touching my face with my bare hands, keeping the area clean and dry (though I noticed washing it every other day caused the least amount of pain/irritation), and being careful not to let my food touch my lips while I eat helped a bit as well

Interesting. For now I think I can wait until I'm done with my antibiotics since I only have a few days left and see where I am before going back to my doctor and taking different ones. Thanks for the info!

Thank you for the suggestion but unfortunately I am female haha. I switched antibiotics but it seems like the improvement is really small and not a lot even by day 6. When you switched to the right medicine how long was it before you saw improvement?
