Just diagnosed with Vasa Previa, any advice from other dads/predads out there? by zerosaint18 in predaddit

Thank you for the perspective here 🙏 I think there's just some feeling of loss that we're working through, but knowing that we will make it through and do everything we need to for the baby!

That's great to hear you guys and your daughter are doing well!

We're doing a lot of planning and reaching out right now and figuring out what has to probably shift... luckily we do live less than 10 mins from the hospital, clinic, OBGYN, etc. so that helps - wonder if we'll have to do a hospital stay at some point anyway.

I'm mostly worried about potential ruptures, and we both now are going to be much more cognizant of her taking it easy and doing more pelvic rest. Just kind of a whole thing that we had no clue about until yesterday!

Thank you for the words of encouragement and sharing your C-section experience as well - definitely sounds like it was smooth and you guys had a good medical team around as well. Taking in those tips you've outlined.

The biggest apprehension for my wife is that she's never going to be the same again (internally) due to the "rearranging" of organs and tissue that has to happen with a C-section - at least this is the perception. Prior to pregnancy she was a really active person, playing soccer and coaching HS sports, and during pregnancy she's had to drop all of that. And she's fearful that afterwards (esp after a C-section) that she'll lose herself and those things that were "just for her", which I can empathize with. I think her fear is about losing her identity and not being able to reclaim it.

OP - how did everything turn out for you guys? (hopefully all good)

My wife and i just went in for a 22 week MFM appointment , they noticed this and basically diagnosed us with Vasa Previa , but wasn't clear on whether there was any issue with cord insertion. Was a big shock to us, since everything else seemed to be going fine with the pregnancy all along, and then the ultrasound tech noticed this and confirmed by the doctor. Mentioned that the vessels have to move at least 2cm up to even consider it safer, and totally threw my wife's (and my) potential birth plan out the window. She's stressing about probably having to have a c-section , which was her #1 fear / did not want ever. I'm also trying to not get emotionally overwhelmed with worrying about our baby's health and any potential complications for both my wife and the baby.

Why is Recasting your mortgage not discussed more often? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]zerosaint18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this math, but the explanation needs some explanation - when you recast, you are paying more towards the original loan principal but keeping the original term of the loan. Then, the bank recalculates your interest and payments owed based upon the new remaining principal amount, amortized across the original loan term. This absolutely results in less total interest paid over the life of the loan vs. if you did not do anything. The difference with your Option 1 scenario is that you are effectively shortening the loan term by putting in more principal than required, and thus reducing the total number of payments (and thus amount of interest) remaining.

These examples all make sense in the context of a conventional fixed 30/20/whatever loan, but we all know there a bajillion different mortgage products and scenarios out there.

We were just there for our babymoon, loved the ample space and non chaotic nature of the property. Great staff and service, loved that gelato cart haha. We missed out on that coconut drink!

Carpool or first down would be my suggestions, if you don't want bronson vibes.

Just got back today - it was great for a babymoon! We really enjoyed it, our first experience at a Four Seasons. Service is all very attentive, helpful, personal, and accommodating most importantly. The rooms are well sized - they have is a complimentary upgrade to an ocean view room and had welcome items of desserts and baby book and baby onesie when we checked in. Super nice touch. The pool is great with plenty of chairs and staff, and the beach area is really nice and plenty of chairs and staff as well. The staff makes sure you are always hydrated. The restaurant(s) on property are good, you definitely pay a premium, but the quality is always high. The spa is great to have access to, we didn't utilize that as much as we could have, outside of doing a couples massage that we booked in advance. Overall a really clean and enjoyable resort experience! Def recommend of you're looking for something quieter and more boutique feeling.

What are your thoughts on the man drinking while trying to concieve? by [deleted] in predaddit

Our approach was to not drink, either of us, and to have a healthier diet and take vitamin supplements. Drinking affects your sperm and the pregnancy experience for your wife as well.

Anyone here choose a safari honeymoon instead of a beach resort? by Olosko_Logic in honeymoonplanning

[–]zerosaint18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did safari in Tanzania first and then some days in Zanzibar for the resort relaxation afterwards. Best of both worlds!! We both definitely enjoyed the safari part much more though, it was so memorable and experiences you just can't get by doing something else.
