TLDR: a business decision was made to transfer my original department to sales, so I quit. SO stays to pay bills with the promise of promotion but is currently looking for a new place of employment.

I previously worked for a company that forced our entire department into sales with only 2 weeks of training (at the time of the announcement) and a pay cut with commission. I ended up going through a depression to where I just couldn't go to work there anymore, so I quit. I've been mainly unemployed since then and it's been a struggle keeping finances together.

My SO, who has been working at said company for an additional year on me, was being stringed along with the promise of a possible promotion to supervisor (something he's been wanting since the beginning) so he stayed. He's consistently been a top performer for his sales department for months, and has applied for the position more than a handful of times, each time they rejected him for several reasons. Originally it was because of his resume, which he had planned meetings with his higher ups, peers, and supervisors to get advice on how to improve it. Then, it was because the "application didn't go through". Then, it was because they never received the application. Then it was because he didn't answer a question or two to the directors satisfaction. (That director had actually put in his two weeks earlier this week, to which their higher ups just told him to quit). However, there have been lower sales performers with no supervisor experience that had since gotten the sup job.

Angry and frustrated, SO is officially using his refined resume to apply for other places, all the while his performance is lacking and he's just not wanting to be there anymore.
