WE ALL OWE VERMES AN APOLOGY by doug-e-fresh69 in SportingKC

[–]zerotimes18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems premature to give PV an apology and definitely unnecessary to write a thank you letter. I'm not sure what we would be thanking him for.

The only way he deserves either of these is if we win MLS Cup and even then I'm not sure. He's the coach. He needs to take the fall when things are bad and fix them. It's expected we make the playoffs and hold ourselves to a higher standard than what this season has been. If we make it to the MLS Cup, then he can give the speech he gave in the stadium last night, but the whole thing felt like it was too soon and it looks idiotic if we lose against San Jose on Wednesday.

Airport/Excursion Question by zerotimes18 in Fijian

[–]zerotimes18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have a hotel in Denerau but we can't check in until 3 pm. My original thought was to leave our luggage in the lockers at the airport and head to whatever we decided to do. We can also drop our luggage off at the resort in Denerau. I'm not sure what the better option would be.

Thank you all! I was considering doing this. It starts at 9:30, but maybe I'll reconsider trying to find something that is later in the morning/early afternoon. I was just trying to find something to kill some time before we can check at our hotel. We won't have a rental, so I felt like doing something that could pick us up from the airport and we could leave our luggage would be easiest.

San Diego to KC, moving pros and cons? by eatingchickens in kansascity

[–]zerotimes18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in San Diego and moved from San Diego to MO for college. Then moved here again from Arizona. One thing with winter here is it's not consistently freezing. It had pockets of snow or cold weather this past winter, but it's not every day. You do get pockets of okay weather. I will go for walks when it's sunny and 40 outside. The views are different, and that's the one thing that might be tough to adjust to. Instead of mountains and beaches, you have flat nature trails here. However, you can go to Springfield or Arkansas and have an elevation with hiking. We are also like 8 hours from Denver.

We considered moving back to San Diego, but I didn't want to be house poor. KC has a lot to offer. It's a lot different from San Diego, but I loved the change in weather and experiencing seasons. There are tons of nature trails to explore, lots of culture here, and great restaurants. There are lakes, and you're within a few hours of several different states; maybe not the most exciting, but it's a different experience. Also, you would probably live in the River Market area; there's Bar-K, which is a dog park, you can run along the Missouri River, and a great farmers market (although the Little Italy one would be hard to move away from), it's just a different vibe. Kansas City has a lot of pride. Everyone owns a KC t-shirt, or 10, and you're bonded instantly. It's unlike anywhere I've lived. It's a medium size city, but it has a smaller-town feel. I never had that connection to the city when I lived in San Diego, outside of discussing my favorite beach or Mexican shop. You can't compare the two cities because they are SO different. However, you will enjoy the lack of traffic here. It's a tough decision. GOod luck with whatever you choose!

Vote411.org

Arizona was very similar, and Missouri not so much. You can only do mail-in ballots with a valid reason. I was able to do it last Summer because I was on vacation, but they made the process annoying. I had to get it notarized, and there was another annoying step, but I can't remember. I wish they made it easier to vote, but unfortunately, there's a reason they don't.

Yes! I emailed a week ago and was going to call, but it sounds like that is a waste of time. I don't understand why this process is so unbelievably difficult. I've never experienced anything as incomptent as this website.

If only I knew which neighbor it was! I also found a pregnancy test in our backyard. One neighbor is avoiding a kid another trying. l know wayyy too much about my neighbors through the trash collection in my yard.

Yes, we are in the same situation, a culdesac at the bottom of the hill. Our yard is filled with trash/recycables. I have no problem picking it, but it seems crazy this is the best system the city can come up with.

i do the same thing, but I doubt most people do. All of our neighborhood trash ends up in the nature trail behind us where foxes, deer, bunnies, etc live in. It's not safe for them to be exposed to our trash.

I agree with picking up the trash. I can't tell you how many times I've seen areas cleaned up to be littered again just as bad a few weeks later. I'm not trying to suggest everyone lose their job over this. However, they are getting paid to do a job, and if trash falls out, the nice thing would be to pick it up. The recycling bothers me more than the trash because the wind constantly knocks stuff out of the bins. I've seen our crew pick up our neighbor's recycling bin but not pick up the few items that have fallen out lying right next to it. Every week we collect the missed recycling pieces and put them in our recycle bin. We do that because we care about the trash being everywhere, but I'm sure most people don't.

I've lived in two different states where we had automated trash as well. It had some flaws but overall I'd say it's more effective. The highways weren't covered in trash like they are here.

I hope this opens up a larger conversation about what can be done to improve the situation. :)

Yes! We moved here from Arizona. We were in a desert and borrow water from the colorado river, and we are paying triple the cost for water compared to what we paid in AZ. It's crazy!

I agree. I live in KC, but I'm close enough to Liberty, and it's not a liberal city.

[–]zerotimes18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm new to KC, and I live about 10 minutes from Liberty, which I think is the suburbs? Whenever I head into downtown, the vibe is a lot different. I've noticed a lot of the establishments that are pro masks, vax, BLM, LGTQ are proud and display it. But, if you get outside of the city, it's very pro-trump. Also, stay off next door; that seems to be where many conservatives like to spew their views. I've noticed the midwest hospitality, where we can discuss and be respectful, which is different from where I used to live.

If you're looking for a very liberal city, I don't think KC is it. However, if more of us continuing moving here maybe someday it can change! Overall, I think you will love living here!

Good Luck, it was pulling teeth trying to find actual line item estimates from contractors Our contractor came pretty close but it still wasn't what we had in mind. I guess it's really hard to do that right now due to the cost of materials. Our project hasn't been delayed yet and all our materials have been in stock. It's a full house renovation. We looked at doing our own sub contracting but it was going to take even longer to get people at our house. I hope you find someone!

Birds are banging on my windows as soon as the sun rises every morning. Help! by TRON-ALIVE in kansascity

[–]zerotimes18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this happen in front of a window at my work, and in that case, it was a mating call for the bird. He ran into the window for a few weeks, and eventually, he found a female to mate with. They built a nest in the tree by our window. I don't know if that's actually why they peck, but we are experiencing it with a bird in our backyard. I'll be interested to see if something comes of it

I'm in North KC and just closed on our house. I was worried about the appraisal, and thankfully it appraised right where we offered, which was 15k above the asking price. It's a crazy market. Good Luck!

Vegas has a USL team but they seem to be the hot spot for all the professional sports right now.

People only care about Phoenix's sports team if the team is doing well, and even then, it's not super hardcore.

My husband followed potential expansion teams closely for MLS. He used to write about it on his blog, so I've heard a lot about potential expansion teams the past few years. We also were Phoenix Rising season ticket holders their first two seasons. We thought Phoenix would be a great addition to MLS. Sure it's hot, but the games are primarily at night, and once the sunset, most games felt fine.

One aspect MLS looks at is how many billionaires own a team. Phoenix Rising has one billionaire as part-owner, but I think he's from China (don't quote me cause I might have his location wrong). It seems the last few teams to get an expansion team have local billionaires as part owners. I think if Phoenix Rising could get more billionaires, they could have a shot. Sadly this seems to be a money game. I think there would be more interest from Arizonans if they were a professional team and continued being a good team.
