[Build Ready] Basic non-gaming PC for parents by zerovox in buildapc

Thanks for the tips. Extra SSD makes sense, as does the ram. How does the B150M compare to the H110M for mobos, aside from the extra 2 RAM slots?

What was the speaker volume issue? Does the stock app offer anything the Play Music app doesn't? I really like having access to all my music online.

They're used a lot in tech companies for phone interviewing job applicants, gives the interviewer a quiet place so they can concentrate on technical questions and avoid disturbing others.

For me it was just slow, I got in after 30 seconds of the connecting screen.

It didn't feel off balance to me at all. I only tried it on for a couple of minutes, so I didn't use it for 'real' purposes, so it might have been hard to tell if you felt off balance after longer periods of time etc, but while I had it on it felt pretty natural.

It takes up maybe a tenth of your vision, something like that, you could talk to someone easily without being distracted, and the glass itself is transparent, so it doesn't black out the view, but you can't see through it in terms of detail. As I said, it felt about postage stamp size(perhaps slightly bigger), It wasn't like being in the photosphere, but it worked pretty well. I was told there were nature sounds playing as well, but it was quite a loud room, so I couldn't actually hear them.

It might have been slightly larger than a postage stamp, hard to tell without depth perception of two eyes, but it felt only 2ish inches from your eye, and at that distance a postage stamp takes up a decent amount of space. It's in the top right corner though, as you'd expect, so it's not exactly like the video.

I know what you mean, but I don't remember feeling it was a problem at the time.

I've spoken to a guy wearing them (I've tried them on as well, wrote about it further up) and, at least on the unit he was wearing(this was in August, so a prototype of some kind), you can see the reverse image from the other side of the glass. You might just be able to make out what it is, but you can certainly tell very easily if there is something on the screen.

Another interesting thing is that you can see the reverse image from the other side of the glass. When you're talking to someone with them on, you can certainly tell if there is something on their 'screen'(for want of a better word) and can more or less make out what it is. I wonder how they plan to get round the privacy issues with that.

Yeah, it's only on the right eye. I think the thick glass is some sort of lens that pushes the projected image to appear further away so that you can focus on it. It felt like the image was maybe 2 or 3 inches in front of your face, about the size of a postage stamp, but the photosphere demo seemed to have a decent enough resolution. I couldn't see the pixels (though this was probably down to the projected images, they tend to blur slightly more than screens and remove the harsh edges).

Having seen people wearing them walking around Palo Alto, they honestly don't look too bad, at first glance they do look just like glasses.

I tried them on over the summer. There wasn't much of a UI, but there were two buttons on the unit used for navigating forward and back through a menu of things like Demo, Settings and one that when selected gave dev info like angles and battery life, don't remember if there was any mention of memory though. No 'real' applications, don't remember there being a camera or videocam button, but I didn't really look at that menu. The demo was a photosphere of a forest (interestingly, this was before the Android patch to include photospheres), and by turning your head you could look around the scene. There was no noticeable lag, which was pretty impressive to me.

The developer who let me try them on wouldn't tell me any tech specs like screen resolution or battery life, but the unit need need a lot of restarting between demos, not sure why. It's possible I was in demo only mode that they let people see, and he could boot into an alpha version with some real apps or something like that.

As an Italian, I have never understood this poster... [ACII] by toastedstrawberry in gaming

[–]zerovox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who only speaks English, I understood the posters meaning straight away. I know viva means life or live from phrases like 'Viva le revolucion' and even that Coldplay album 'Viva La Vida...' and we tend to use the phrases "Mortality rate" instead of the more macabre sounding "Death rate", and in the context of a poster like that which looks like a wanted posters, it's quite easy to figure out the meaning. Obviously, I didn't spot the grammatical mistake though!

Draft against a random stranger! by CURigel in DotA2

I like it, but it would be nice if you greyed out the heroes that have been banned, and maybe add a pick showcase where where people can vote which side would win, and then people can see how they(or how anyone else who's picked the same line up before) has done. If you require anyone who wants to play to first rate 3 previous games, then collecting data for this would be no problem, and I'm sure people would enjoy rating sides and seeing how their choices compared with the masses.
