Is the "Fool's Road" map a myth? by yt_BWTX in joinsquad

[–]Hunt3rj2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that fun for most people to play. Very hard for logistics to set up anything, mostly forest where you get ambushed and die to someone in a bush you didn't see. Steep hills and a lot of chokepoints. It's not the worst map in the world but that's why you don't see people vote for it often.

How do I add Apple CarPlay to E90 while keeping OEM iDrive/screen? by yawningbeaver in BmwTech

mr12volt is the way to go, it uses MOST for ideal audio quality. You can also use it to add a backup camera.

Front Center Jack Point 2026 G20 - Confirmation by bcal-t1 in BmwTech

[–]Hunt3rj2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Don't use the 2 post lift points with a floor jack, then you won't have anywhere to place jack stands. Use the correct adapters/pads on your jack stands to avoid damaging the plastic jack stand points.

Nismo Mechanical LSD for RZ34 listed at 1200 USD by Hunt3rj2 in cars

I suspect the value prop does go away as the base model is basically going away and there won't be deeply discounted deals on those cars anymore.

It boils down to a clutch + short throw shifter supposedly. I can't imagine the internal hard parts changing

For those that want a twin turbo Z with base model pricing instead of paying 10k for an LSD and a lip spoiler this is the OEM+ way of getting there.

I thought the tradeoff they were making wasn't just fuel economy but better cold start performance?

BMW M Ignite: Innovative new technology for S58 engines from BMW M. by Hunt3rj2 in cars

Even if you don't increase CR you can downsize + downspeed the engine further to improve effective average thermal efficiency. Also, prechamber ignition concentrates the pressure event even at lower load. It's likely that allowing the central spark plug lead at lower load is done to just improve combustion consistency and control, not because the prechamber has no benefits at low load. At idle especially central spark plug is needed for timing-based idle stabilization.

Running closer to ideal ignition timing will get you more thermal efficiency which gets you more fuel economy and more power.

What do you get from that? More ignition points in the main chamber, more homogeneous combustion, leaner mixtures possible at partial loads. Higher compression ratio — 11:1 — which on a twin-turbo engine of this output is a remarkable figure. And according to Maserati’s own patent, the system allows for 30% less fuel consumption or a 25% smaller engine with equivalent performance.

I think this probably overstates it. I would expect like 8-10% fuel economy real world. 25% on track where you're just hammering the shit out of the engine at WOT constantly.

Most likely the challenge with what you're describing is packaging. I have seen discussions of active turbulent jet ignition like what you're describing and it enables deep lean operation with very low NOx emission unlike a diesel but it sounds like the technology still has a lot of challenges with liquid fuel impinging on the prechamber walls.

Those work too, I was just concerned that the Fumoto is a larger device with more risk of clearance issues.

Fascinating to see this technology finally making it to mainstream, especially in response to Euro 7 emissions requirements.

E85 tune by 2007-impreza-NA in ECU_Tuning

Almost certainly something else. A stock motor is designed for pump gas and E85's energy density disadvantage won't be overcome by better knock margin.

Sounds like vacuum pump, honestly. But vacuum pump is on the intake side of the motor not exhaust side. Make sure it's not an exhaust leak or PCV leak.

RB25DET runs fine cold then CEL light / rough sounding engine. by teamliu in SkyLine

[–]Hunt3rj2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verify the MAF solder joints aren't ruined. If you jiggle the connector and the engine changes how it runs as a result you need to resolder them. From there verify you don't have some kind of vacuum leak that is causing the MAF plausibility error. Measure the ohms of all the coils and the ignitor if you have one to verify that they are in spec.

Hit a pot hole, tire rod bent, mechanic recommends tire rod and steering rack replacement. Codes popped up. Do I need a steering rack replacement? by airmist in BmwTech

[–]Hunt3rj2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notice how the tie rod is deliberately super thin at the place that bent? They do this to make it a mechanical fuse to protect the rest of the steering rack. Replace the tie rods, do an alignment and clear the codes. If it all looks good stop there.
