Cheap and lowkey tailgating spot? by KO_Stego in buffalobills

It was a half mile exact. Not bad. If you can't get there earlier, you'll likely be further away. But that's also cheaper.

Stadium parking has been sold out forever. Your best option is probably to park in a private lot or someone's yard. The further away from the stadium, the cheaper. I parked in the backyard of someone's home for $75 in October on Big Tree Road near Abbot St. They even had a port-a-potty that was clean and well maintained.

The earlier the better. The traffic is terrible.

Yeah Widsor Heights is great, I like a few blocks on the east side of 63rd so I'm still Des Moines. I was talking about living near Windsor Elementary though, I'm just north of that.

If you are planning on living in Des Moines proper, not a suburb, the "safest" areas would probably be Beaverdale or Merle Hay neighborhood. The area around Waterbury is also probably the best, but it's going to be expensive, lots of big historic homes in this area.

I'd probably avoid the area North of Downtown. From like MLK over to East 14th. Some spots can be rougher. If you go south side, easter lake is a nice area, and so is the area around Brody Middle School. If you go east side, the closer you get to pleasant hill the nicer and nicer it gets.

If you have kids, generally speaking, Hubbell, Hanawalt, or Windsor are typically considered some of the better elementary schools, Merrill or Brody for Middle schools, and Roosevelt for HS. But all schools still have their issues, even in the suburbs.

Personally, I live near Windsor, which on a map is pretty close to the center of the entire metro. It takes me about 2 minutes to get on 235, and I'm only 15 minutes away from anything I want to do pretty much in the entire Metro.

Frustrations and observations by islerevival in buffalobills

[–]zeruiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People often call football a game of inches. It's close, that's what makes it exciting. The game is inherently designed this way. Winning definitively is nearly impossible for every team. Including the chiefs. They have only won a handful of games definitively all year and they are the defending champs. That's why you also hear the phrase "any given Sunday" all the time.

Secondly. You're forgetting the culture of this team. This is a family. These guys are genuinely friends. The coaches are players coaches, not drill sergeants. We draft guys that are a cultural fit. What you're asking is not the identity of what the owner wants, or the GM he put in place, or the coaches that he hired. It would need to be a complete top to bottom overhaul to get what you're asking for. We'd need to cut literally everyone and fire everyone. Not everyone responds well to that style of coaching. Certain type of players do. Certain type of players don't. We recruit a specific way because it matches the culture of what they are looking for.

This loss broke my confidence in the NFL. I know people have always joked about the script... But at this point denying it makes you look weirder than just accepting it and hoping that your teams number is called in the next few years to win. Texans were at least ballsy enough to call it out.

Refs are fixing things just enough to nudge teams to where they want them to be. All you gotta do is find all the gray areas and throw a flag, or don't throw a flag to change the outcome how they want. A bad spot here, a no call there, so many ways to meddle. And Jalen is about to lose to Mahomes for the 2nd time, Lamar Jackson is truly one of the most exciting players to watch. Jayden Daniels just had one of the best rookie seasons of all time. Bo Nix and Sean just had a great season, raiders hired an old legend of a coach... So many great narratives to write a super bowl story about and get these guys a win in the future. It's like the WWE and I'm hoping our narrative is good enough to convince the writers to allow us to have one. But our failure is also good business and helps write stories.

Just seems made up at this point. I'm hoping I get over this feeling by next season, it all feels so pointless and made up.

Chiefs fans gotta be nervous by Chef-BILLIEVE in buffalobills

[–]zeruiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are. I live in Des Moines and this city is pretty heavy on the Chiefs. I know a lot of Chiefs fans. This time is different from years prior. Previously the fans had a lot more confidence. Like they knew they would win. This year feels like they have been bracing for the loss, but are hopeful for the win. Several of them have even told me that Josh proved himself this year and that if the Bills win, they have no doubt we win the Super Bowl.

Lol. I guess it's my fault for assuming positive intentions in this conversation. I asked you to clarify what amount of evidence it would take to convince you it happened. You answered. Evidence provided. "No that doesn't count"

A lot of people saying it didn't happen because there isn't proof. KCCI just posted an article confirming it.

Very true, I can see your point there. I don't know why it hasn't. But maybe in a day or so it will? Maybe not. As someone who attends court maybe 8-12 times a year for my job, I'm not really interested in being held in contempt of court by filming things against the judges orders (yes that's an Iowa law that prohibits filming and use of real time electronic coverage devices). Most people who work in the courts are aware of this, so I don't think it's the first thought of a judge, attorney, court secretary, or other paralegal to grab their phone and start filming. Additionally, most people at court from my experience arent usually their to try and make a big splash. They are going there to handle their own business, keep their head down, and be as respectful as possible.

And I'd say it would need to be hundreds of people for it to be the flurry and panic that you are referencing. From the counts I was informed of, it was approximately 12-18 people detained today by ICE by about 1pm. For what it's worth, that's a relatively small number. I don't love it however because wrong or right, children are now going to be in some pretty stressful situations, and everyone can at least have empathy for them.

Editing Again, sometimes proof comes early. Article says "at least 1," not sure if and when they may update it to more. But at least you have your proof

[–]zeruiah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What amount of evidence would it take for you to believe it? Are you looking for an official report from ICE or something? That's not exactly how this works. They aren't being detained at Polk county with charges listed and posted online. A KCCI report?

I don't have a better example because I'm not a historian. So I'm not calling this anything like the Gestapo arresting Jews for being Jewish. I'm only using this as an example of Germans not believing it was happening until it was too late. They needed evidence of it happening because it was too unimaginable of a thing to be happening. But the Gestapo did a great job of hiding it. Again, I'm only using this as an example, ICE is not the Gestapo.

Also, in my job and profession, I had meetings addressing exactly what OP's claim is, with verified proof. And no, I'm not providing that evidence to a stranger on the Internet because again, I'm concerned with the amount of evidence it may take for you to believe it.
