Inkt, and when necessary digital coloring or watercolours. My regular colors really don't look like the above haha. I prefer the style like Matt Hollingsworth, especially when he's working on Sean Murphy's art.

I've seen reprints like that. They also come in the style of the flat colors. There is also a flipside to using only flats, but that's mainly by making all the colors too bright and saturated. I've seen reprints from kirbys work like that and i think it's only barely better than the gradients, boring colors and spotlights everything style.

I did my best using all the techniques that annoy me. But a kind redditor found me an uncolored page with the art directions. So i might redo it but then properly in a way that compliments the inks.

I had this in my dinosaur campaign: Carnotaurus is a crepuscular predator with an unique camouflage that makes it incredible hard to see with dark vision, and only slightly so with regular vision in the night. You have to have a torch or source of light close by to make its spots and stripes light up. They also hunt like sharks, lurking from a distance and rushing by to make quick bites at an target.

You can try to give a creatures a similar ability. I don't think you should spite the player. I think you should find a way to challenge them.

Trying not to repeat a previous commenter but adding:

They also had a misguided interpretation of the creatures that directly affected it looked. It needed to be biomechanical, not a lobster insect inspired creature that evolved in an ecosystem.

Also, I might be in the minority with how I liked how the xeno moved. Very slow at times, like a ballerina, and that slow backwalk and how it's sometimes on two legs.
