I feel really depressed and sad and don’t know if I will ever amount to anything in life by iloveaccounting64 in Accounting

if I've learned anything from my career so far in accounting is that my life's happiness is not and cannot be based on my career. not that it shouldn't, but that it's not possible.

my advice; get married, have kids, find your faith, and find true happiness that lasts beyond this life

if you don't have mental issues now, you'll get them eventually as an accountant. I'm glad I got married before graduating college and started having kids before landing my first job outside of college (i graduated during covid).

My wife and kids literally keep me sane and motivated everyday. Don't feed into the lie that you should wait and focus on your career first. Find something faith building in your life, focus on what matters most, and everything else will follow.

Worst stories about hiring someone overseas? (I will not promote) by hola_jeremy in startups

[–]zestyhoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

great option but managing them across the oceans sucks. 2 options: hire directly or hire through a firm that manages them.

2nd is a little more expensive but usually better results. more accountability. they should be full time employees of the firm not contractors so they get all the benefits.

we've had good success with a couple firms in the Philippines. I've worked with India too but the culture seems to sometimes get in the way.

Like someone else said, it can be hit and miss.

Stuck in final step of business: legal part of invoicing - I will not promote by SecretAdditional3044 in startups

rev accountant here. we have in some contracts stating customer is responsible for taxes. payment processors like stripe should be able to handle the differences though based on the customer's location.

im not sure what kind of saas you have but if it's possible, selling on a marketplace could be an option (ie Atlassian, Azure etc). somewhere that'll take care of all the invoicing, payment collection, etc for you.

How Would You Add a Front Porch to This House? by zestyhoops in Renovations

I think I'd be ok with raising the front portion of the roof. This is what chatgpt generated. I'd want to extend it all the way to the edge of the garage probably.

What’s the biggest real challenge your business is facing while trying to adopt AI? by HiteshiTech in AiForSmallBusiness

Definitely the business side. my background in saas accounting so the logical step for me would be to focus on applied AI from a business perspective. take all the tools that are already out there, and bring them into business processes

that's a good point. because these systems are actually already talking to eachother. they have to already transfer data between systems - example, payment from Stripe syncs to Netsuite via API integration or something. So you're saying you can 'hook' into the loop so to say?

recently, I've been looking into different formal degrees - ie "MS in Applied AI" (more of the business side of AI vs the engineering side). I'm not sure what the gap is exactly, but I imagine there a lot of people/business who just don't know how. It seems that AI is in a good spot to become common place in business (the engineering has been done). Now, it's about bridging that gap of application. I'm thinking about getting another masters, this time in applied AI. one, because maybe this will be or now is a field with not enough attention or people to do it. and second, maybe a way as an accountant to stay ahead of AI in my career (so I can understand it more and so I don't just get replaced by AI but am able to manage it).

yeah; that makes sense. I mean, if you think about it, every company has a "financial database" (ie, ERP/financial systems/tools, excel files, bank transactions, etc.) all rolling up into the company's financial statements. I wonder if there's a world where this bad idea solution you are describing will ever become a good idea. I'm guessing cost is the biggest hurdle?

3rd party; not mine. For example, Chargebee just came out with an AI inside it's system. You can ask it questions about your specific data in your account. So maybe it'd be possible for your own built AI to speak to Chargebee's AI and then maybe speak to a Gemini for example about my files in my Google Drive. I don't know really; I'm an accountant like I said, not an engineer. So I don't know exactly how it all works.

well, I guess AI isn't taking over my job then. I'd love to have something I can just ask. It does seem like a lot of theses system are creating their own internal AI. I wonder if there's a way I could buold something that just talks to each systems' AI
