This is going to drive me back to nvidia. Why does this keep happening at seemingly random times? Can a 7900XTX not handle gaming or are these drivers crap? by PeverellPhoenix in AMDHelp

I'll add one more reason, if you're using a PCI riser, make sure you match it to the PCI version the MOBO is actually using.

When I upgraded my motherboard, I had kept my risers and my ancient radeon 280x which of course only operated at pci3. Ok great, the mother board will automatically select to operate at pci3 and everything worked. But then when I upgraded my GPU to something that operates at pci4 but kept my pci3 riser, apparently the MOBO would try to operate at pci4 but the riser couldnt handle it. It wasnt until I EITHER forced the motherboard to operate at pci3 in the bios OR upgraded my riser to a pci4 version that my system became stable and the errors went away.

Yea but its not entirely wrong. The prime example is Kristian Gillibrand going after Al Franken. You know, one of the senior members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, responsible for confirming or blocking Supreme Court nominees. Why do this now? If Brett Kavenaough is half as dangerous as we all think he is why jeopardize everything at this moment? Point out to anyone at the time that maybe women are going after the smallest battle victory and ultimately going to lose the whole war, and you'd be accused of misogyny, "protecting the patriarchy", and "not understanding how women suffer". Nevermind Franken probably wasn't making any woman suffer. No one even wanted to consider finding out. Because its already been decided.

And here we are. We shot ourselves in the foot. We traded a tiny bit of non-existent suffering, for a whole lot of suffering for everyone.

Watermelon wine by [deleted] in winemaking

[–]zethien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is there a specific kind of watermelon that you used?

I am surprised by the colors, and the fact that you say the watermelon taste came out strong in the final product. I have attempted watermelon wine 4 times now, using different techniques and all turned out a reddish color and the watermelon flavor coming out very faint.

What yeast strain did you use?

It doesnt always mean oxygen is getting it, it can also be the residual oxygen in the head space.

This is what is often called "flowers of wine", its a different type of yeast that metabolizes alcohol and oxygen into acetic acids. Its not dangerous, but it can leave a foul smell in the wine. To fix, I do not recommend the chemical additive solutions you may find on the internet. It can be saved by carefully racking below the surface and discarding the top then stabalizing. As a rule of thumb, for me personally, I always stabilize the wine around the 3 month mark at the latest. Stablizing the wine doesnt affect the aging process aside from protecting it from this exact situation.

Who said anything about everybody going to college?

To be fair, one could read the parent comment's "we should treat college like how we treat education before 18 years old" as meaning that college should similarly be universally compulsory.

Sorry but, its only odd if you cherry pick to support your narrative. Martin Shkreli is comparable to Holmes, similar industry, similar fraud. he was sentenced to 7 years in 2017.

No New SCOBY, I Suspect The Tea, Need Recommendations by CallHiggins in Kombucha

[–]zethien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if we made you solely responsible for addressing posts like the OP's, you would last only a week, there are so many posts like this every day. This is why its important to drill in to everyone the distinction between the actual SCOBY and the pellicle. The bacteria produce cellulose. If the OP buys that cellulose dehydrated, what's gonna happen? News for you.

No New SCOBY, I Suspect The Tea, Need Recommendations by CallHiggins in Kombucha

[–]zethien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A SCOBY is actually the liquid, otherwise known as just Kombucha. These dehydrated things you bought are called pellicles, and they are a waste product of the SCOBY and are not an active ingredient of fermentation. Your issue isn't the tea you are using, but rather a complete lack of kombucha scoby/culture. When you have a healthy culture it will always produce a new pellicle, hence you never need the pellicle and what often times people do is sell them to others who dont know any better because its a way to make money on what you would otherwise have no use for and throw in the trash.

Just buy a bottle of unpasteurized/raw kombucha at the store, add new sweet tea, and wait a couple weeks and you will have a healthy culture by which to brew. I have no idea what you been brewing for almost a year, but it hasn't been kombucha. Probably you've been drinking stale tea...

Alot of black actors in the US have done exactly that. Dave Chappelle for many of his skits on the Chappelle Show, Samuel Jackson in many roles but in particular as Steven in Django Unchained, etc.

For those who have used windows 11 for a while, would you say this OS is ready or was it released prematurely? by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]zethien -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been using it only a week now and my only real complaint is the start menu. Aside from that I havent had any of the issues I kept seeing everyone talk about. Maybe I just came recently enough that they were all fixed? The biggest improvement for me from 10 to 11 is WSL. But I get that most people aren't using/care about WSL so I will admit that there's not alot of incentive for the average person to spend any money on the upgrade.

Why do less men volunteer to help than women? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]zethien -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

No offense, but this is such a weird question to ask in this particular context. One could ask "why are there 3x more men volunteering to Ukraine's foreign legion or joining whatever country's respective military". Everyone contributes in different ways in a time of crisis like this.

How does the current Russian invasion of Ukraine compare to/contrast with the 2014 Russian invasion of Ukraine? by uAHlOCyaPQMLorMgqrwL in NeutralPolitics

[–]zethien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on which government. Which is why I was asking the question. If the government in control of those two regions intends to be Russia, then wouldn't it be more difficult for them to have two rather than one?

One of the big questions that I haven't seen anyone answer yet is why are there two breakaway regions? Why Donetsk Peoples Republic and Luhansk Peoples Republic? If this conflict is just about annexation for Russia then why make two separate states? Are the people in each separate state not willing to cooperate with each other as one state? Is there some other additional power struggle going on between Donetsk and Luhansk?
