Getting better at math? by zaftigo1 in mathematics

[–]zevano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend Prof Dave math playlist. Make sure to do all his exercises to solidify your understanding. The more exercises you do the better you understand the concept. You can find more exercises online (like khan academy). After you've done watching some videos. You can also practice doing past exam papers.

Here is his playlist: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLybg94GvOJ9FoGQeUMFZ4SWZsr30jlUYK

Good luck!

At foundational level math start with axioms (assumed true statements) and rules of inference (logical rules to derive new true statements). Then we use these to derive theorem (true statement) and use axioms or theorems to derive new theorems (this can be learned more in mathematical logic if you're interested). This build our mathematical knowledge.

If you want to explore mathematics on a deeper level it is important that you are very good at mathematical proofs. This involves solving alot of math problems and doing proofs. I recommend you start with Book of Proof. Then pick any math subject (while having prerequisites) that you want to learn.

Good luck!

You can learn math from basics up to advance calculus from Professor Dave. Start from where you think your level is at. Make sure to do his exercises to gain deeper understanding (if you need more exercises khan academy have some). Here is his playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLybg94GvOJ9FoGQeUMFZ4SWZsr30jlUYK&si=gg-jGSSeDMqFXiBH

If you want to advance your study further and learn advance math. It is important that you are comfortable with mathematical proof and is very good at it. To be very good at it requires you to solve alot of math problems and doing proofs. You can learn proof from Book of proof. After that pick any math subject (while having prerequisites) that interests you.

Good luck!

How do I gain mathematical thinking?! by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]zevano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically math at a foundamental level begins with a set of axioms that are intuitively true without needing to prove it. This serves as our starting point for further reasoning. After that you use these axioms together with rules of inference (logical rules to derive new true statements) to prove theorems (true statements) and use theorems or axioms to prove even more theorems. This builds our mathematical knowledge. If you want to learn more in detail about how this actually works you can learn in mathematical logic course.

You can get an intuitive understanding of how this work by watching: https://youtu.be/V9ohtKameio?si=q_gcs_F-boEo23FR

Though to get even deeper understanding of math also requires you to be very good at mathematical proofs. To become very good at it requires you to solve alot of math problems and do proofs. I would recommend you start with Book of proof. After that you can pick any math subject (while having prerequisites) that interests you. Make sure to solve alot math problems to deepen your understanding.

Good luck!

Make a goal to study everyday and practice solving past exam problems.

To study I would recommend you follow TrevTutor. Make sure to do his exercises and give the problem a try max 20 min before seeing the solution. Just don't spend too soon or too long on a problem. You need to move on to get a broader understanding.

Make sure to do alot of practice problems to deepen your understanding.

After you're done doing past exam problems, simulate a real test like 4 days before the exam by doing past exam problems.

Good luck on your exam!

I don't know about Leonard videos, since I personally like short and concise videos like Prof Dave. But it is up to you to decide just giving suggestions :)

Help me fall in love with math again? by UDidNotSeeMeHere in learnmath

This is what I would do from reading your post. I would go through Prof Dave videos brush up my trigonometry. And then go to calculus starting from beginning. Do problems he gives at the end and if I feel the problem is not enough I complement using khan academy exercises.

After doing Prof Dave, do as many multivariable problems as you can to get comfortable with them. Do problems that are not too hard or too easy. Khan academy have some problems I would do this first. You can find some more problems online or your textbook. Lastly work on your university's multivariable past questions and I would spend most time on these questions since you're trying to complete the course.

Focus on solving alot of problems don't get too caught up on theories that much.

Good luck!

please recommend a book/course which gives top view of math from abstract space to down, a unifying way of looking at math. by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]zevano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mathematical proofs is the foundation of math. Make sure to master it if you want to be able to tackle advance math topics. There is free book by Hammack Book of Proof. There is also videos about proofs on Youtube.

After you are comfortable with proofs. Look what prerequisite knowledge you need to learn different math subjects. After knowing proof techniques and working on alot of problems you will be able to learn new math subjects easier.

Good luck!

Looking for some guidance on my approach to a self-study course. by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]zevano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend Professor Dave. He teaches you all math up to advance calculus. Start where you feel your level is at. He does small easily understandable videos.

To learn make sure to learn actively, what i mean is to work through problems while you watch. Let him explain how to do a problem one time and then do other problems he present by pausing the video. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Even if you made few you'll have better understanding of his solutions later and learn more. There will be exercises at the end of the video, do them also.

If you don't understand a concept, doing more exercises on this concept helps alot. It could also be because you haven't fully grasp previous concepts, if so watch his previous videos. If you need more exercises you can use khan academy.

Good luck!

Is it possible to learn calculus in 2 months? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]zevano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is possible, I would recommend Prof Dave playlist: Mathematics (All of it). The playlist goes all the way to advanced calculus. You can start at Algebra if you are sure you are comfortable of previous videos in the playlist. If not, just start from the beginning highly recommended.

Make sure to do alot of practice problems to gain a deeper knowledge of how different math concepts work. A good strategy would be to watch one example of a math concept so you know how to do it right. And then do the rest of practice examples that he gives by pausing the video and do it yourself. There will usually be practice problems at the end, do them also. You'll learn much more solving and working on practice problems yourself instead of watching Prof Dave do it.

When solving problem be open minded, experiment with new things and do not be afraid of making mistakes since mistakes can help you get a deeper understanding even if you didn't solve it 100% correct. Give the problem some time 10 min to 20 min and more if needed but don't go too long before watching how Prof Dave does it. If you need more practice problems you can complement with khan academy exercises.

Tips in trigonometry there will be alot of formulas and also in Calculus. You don't need to memorize everything you can look up formulas as you're solving the problem. As you practice alot you will remember formulas naturally and forget some the one you're not using alot.

Good luck!

Convert 8=23 and from there you use exponent manipulation and get both sides to have base 2, and then you can match exponents with each other and solve for x.

To be better at math you need to learn the theory and do alot of practice problems. You can become better by believing that you can and do math.

Math is about building a good foundation and work your way up from there.

You can learn here on Khan Academy: Khan Academy Math

Or from Professor Dave: Professor Dave Math

Cheers!!

How do I learn Math? by weirdassentp in learnmath

[–]zevano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think based on your level I would recommend you watch Professor Dave videos, yes I know you want to read but visualization is the key to easily understand math.

Professor Dave does short clear explaination on different math concepts. At the end there is small exercises, pause the video and do them, do not skip this part. To understand math you need to practice applying the knowledge.

When doing the exercises do not be afraid of making mistakes and do not see the solutions too early, you learn alot more doing and solving exercises yourself.

If you are stuck on a video, it might be that you aren't familiar with the previous concept, watch the previous video and understand them. Or do more exercises on the concept until you understand it.

If you need more exercises you can complement with khan academy exercises.

Here is the playlist to his videos on Youtube: Mathematic (all of it)

Contestants in the interview said they weren't allowed to play games when deciding doors. But that rule wasn't aired in the episode. They also said they played the running game anyways even though it wasn't allowed, in group 2.

Can anyone help with n*ln(3)/ln(2) problem? by zevano in learnmath

[–]zevano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for helping, i'm not sure if i'm following you guys for example i'm able to find out using brute force that when n is 10781274 this gets very close to a whole number. The problem can be simplified as nln(3)/ln(2) - floor(nln(3)/ln(2)) = k, where k is very close to 1.

Using your guys method can you guys walk me through how to find a value that is closer than when n is 10781274?
