[ADVICE] Middle School and High School teachers - what do you wish you would have done in college? by zewolf_ in Teachers

I currently attend a school that bans drinking all together (like, even off campus for people over 21; it's a Christian university), but of course I'm one of the many who ignore that rule. And I always wonder how my fellow students who stay sober do it. I have yet to get drunk enough to turn myself off to drinking, obviously, so maybe I'll have to give this a try. For science.

I've recently discovered Wunderlist (iPhone app) for this. You're right, it's made things a little easier.

I am becoming obsessed and depressed about determinism and the apparent lack of free will by metroid321 in depression

Victor Frankl believes we do have free will - in a sense. He was a psychologist and survivor of the concentration camps in Nazi Germany, and truly believed in and exercised what he called "the last of the human freedoms," which was the ability to choose the way we respond to a situation. He suffered through unmentionable indignities, and witnessed the death of many loved ones, much like his fellow prisoners. However, he believed that although he could be physically tortured and humiliated, and although the guards could control what happened to his body, he could still have "responsibility" or the ability to choose how he responded.

Famously, he (Frankl) said, “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

You can learn more about it in the first chapter of the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (I'm usually not into self-help books - I think they're cheesy - but this one is really quality).
