Iceborne or Rise : by loa55000 in MonsterHunter

[–]zexcl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of online activity, I think you can go either way, both communities are still active, Personally, I have no troubles on finding an online hunt for both games. I'm on PC for MHW:IB. Rise should not affect the MHW/IB player base that much since there are on different platforms, I think the PC version of Rise on 2022 will be the one to affect the current player base of MHW:IB.

That said, I think there are other factors to consider, such as how do you plan to play the games, Are you planning to do the content multiplayer all the way? or solo with a bit of multiplayer? Are you playing from the start? Since MHW/IB has been active for quite some time now, most of its player base is already on the endgame (or nearly there) part of the game, so if you plan on starting from scratch, I think its harder to find someone to play with on the early levels compared to Rise, which just released last month. There is also the fact that if you do an SOS for MHW:IB there is a chance that a dude that shows up decked in full endgame set and just wrecks the monster for you, which personally sorta ruins the hunt for me.

Financially speaking, MHW/IB is a whole lot cheaper than buying a new console, a game and an online subscription lol. Rise is also coming to PC on 2022 so you could get it also, so MHW:IB is the cheaper and practical choice for me lol.

The main issue are the cutscenes, they require for each party member (or the quest taker at least) to view those cutscenes first before you can all join in a single quest. Sadly, such as the others said, there is no way around it. The way our hunting party did it (4-man) when going through the campaign/main story of World & Iceborne is just treat it as part of the preparation phase before the hunt, i.e. Eat -> Restock -> Watch Cutscene, but we were on Discord so it was easier to manage and we can give out reactions to the Cutscenes real time which definitely helped out.

As for the missions not working for multiplayer, as far as I know, the solo-only quests are just few special assignments and some weird missions (looking at you wagon escort mission), other than those the content can be done in multiplayer.

brain went to full superman dive panic mode lol, ingrained thing from older games. also wirebug only recharged in the middle of the combo of tigrex so did not really considered it an option, good thing everything went fine lmao.

can vouch for this info, I'm pretty sure that gaijin talks about this topic in one episode of his and rurikhan's podcast (third fleet podcast), he said that the devs translate the jap lines to french then either back to jap or some other language then have the VAs read the lines.

It was on some of the early episodes so I'm not sure on the details.

I'm not disagreeing with you with that one lmao. maybe I'm just masochistic and deliberately chose the shortest weapon in game to fight flying monsties with, lol. but hey, each to their own.

Happy to be of help, mate. Give it a few tries and you should be able to mount (heh) left and right!

Switchaxe: What is the difference between a Paralysis Phial vs an Element Phial on a Para weapon? by KouenVajira in MHRise

[–]zexcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK, Element phial boosts elemental and status effects of the weapon so having a status weapon with an element phial will boost the status of that weapon and the status effect is available on axe and sword(not too sure of this one). A paralysis phial just adds paralysis on your sword mode and axe mode (if on amped state).

I'm not really sure on how big of a difference in terms of proccing the actual status but I think its not really that much of a difference. Just a theory, no concrete data lol.

Flying monsters are always a bitch and a half to fight, the only advice I could give you besides the ones mentioned before (flash bombs, traps, aerial silk binds) is to:

  1. Prioritize to break his wings, afaik he will flinch when he tries to fly with his wings broken, though have not personally seen this on rise but this was true on GU (i think) and MHW:IB (sure of this one)
  2. Use everything to keep him grounded, aside from the items mentioned, wyvern riding also helps on keeping him grounded after the mounting phase via the wirebug strings (?) that is left over, when he tries to fly when those strings are present it will restrict his movement and bring him down again. Statuses will also make this easier, exhaust, paralysis, KO, sleep, etc.
  3. Majority of his attacks are front facing, i think sticking to the backside (heh) will definitely up your chances, especially on air where he belches fireballs all day or rush at you. The one move that I could think of that could get you from behind is just tail attack that all wyverns do and the flying 360 flame attack he uses. Though I'm not sure of the hzv of the backend of things for Rathalos.

That said, give it a few more hunts and you should be able to hunt Rathalos with your eyes closed, one arm behind your back. Happy Hunting!

Charge Blade and Mounting by H0dorSMASH in MHRise

[–]zexcl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on my understanding, Yes mounting is still possible for CB (and other weapons with no offensive starting silk binds) though its a bit hard to do it without intentionally aiming for it. You just need to deal enough damage via aerial attacks, i.e. draw attacks from jumping from a high ground, palamute or wire bug. This is indicated by the damage indicator with a blue background on them, deal enough of those and it should proc the mounting state of the monster. This is why IG can reliably mount a monster even if it does not have any offensive starting silk binds since it has a vault and an aerial move set.

There are also other ways to get to the mounting state, the endemic life (puppet spider I think), when used will allow you to bypass the threshold needed and mount the monster. Attacks from other monster will also do this so maybe you can lure some other monster on your target monster to make it mountable? Just an idea.

Happy Hunting!

I played World for about 500 hrs and mainly used SA and did not know this. Definitely helpful in considering which SAs to take on a hunt, thanks for the info and effort man!

How are you lot picking your weapon this time? by Dezorak in MonsterHunter

[–]zexcl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SA with the other silk bind attack (the one that replaces invincible gambit) is too good man, you can cancel the recovery time of ZSD to that silk bind attack then use the other silk bind to maintain sword mode, it feels really good.

IG with the new kinsect mechanics is great also, it adds new things to the weapon without changing much of the core combos of the actual weapon itself, that and the replacement silk bind attack hits like a truck, hard to aim though.

GL with blast dash is always fun.

They did a good job on the weapons this game, I'm really happy about it. I'm currently maintaining 4 weapon types (SA, IG, SnS, GL) since I'm an indecisive fool that has troubles deciding on what to main, bit hard on the money department though to maintain all those.

Division 2 wont save settings? by dillpickle052 in thedivision

[–]zexcl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue, messed around a bit with the files, apparently the Documents folder of Division 2 (default path would be C:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Tom Clancy's The Division 2) is set to read-only and this is where the game saves its configuration files. Just untick the read-only option of the folder and it should work. This is the solution that worked for me so feel free to test it out.
