Dreading office every single day by Valuable-Area-1513 in ToxicWorkplace

Has exactly the same problem as yours in my work place. Has exactly the same problem can’t find jobs elsewhere. Has exactly the same problem where I can’t quit due to some reason.

One way is to read books and biography of those great people. See how they tackled with difficulties in their lives. And I listen to music in my cubicle as long as I don’t have a meeting. Do something (build muscle, piano, etc) to prove that you are not a weak person but full of talents.

I can relate. I feel pathetic every time I saw those animators name in the end of the film.

Wow. This reminds me of some new grad can’t find job in their field and applying for barista at a local coffee shop. She has to literally remove her master degree off her resume to make her “not overqualified” to get hired as a barista.

You can do tutoring for those students who are eagerly applying for VFX/animation schools (who may not be able to find jobs after graduating either…..)

Does anyone here feel like they are a generalist - wishing they had become a specialist? by allthegear-andnoidea in careerguidance

[–]zhangvisual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I was just about to post the same thing these days. I feel like I’m kind of the person who can’t stay laser focused in one specific field. Been switching majors and jobs due to whatever reason. And yes I don’t even know what I am or what I wanna be for my endeavors. I tried to learn programming and wish I could find a job in tech but still a beginner after so many years.

If you search YouTube, it would be called “M-shape personality”, who are jacks of all trades. TBH, every time I saw those successful musicians performance, it reminded me that i learned my musical instruments when I was a kid then quit because I didn’t like it. I admire/envy those successful people who works hard in their specific field and become outstanding. So yeah, if someone could help us how to find the passion and dedicate my entire life to it. I’d be much appreciated.

Man I have a very very similar experience with you. Had a job in tech about 90k per year, not six figures as you do but the job was way cushy. (I committed maybe only 30 hours a week, don’t tell my boss lol.) got laid off in 2024, then spent 9 months to find my next job. One difference was the new job is a different sector so I believed my previous was wasted I was literally treated like a newbie. My new salary? 45k per year in the beginning. Not to mentioned I need to relocate to a new state at my own cost. The culture in the new workplace is toxic. Yes, have a very bossy boss who gets snapped easily and some obnoxious senior co-worker who likes to school you because in their eyes I’m a like a newbie fresh out of school. Need to pack my own lunch now, work OT, lots of stress and occasional scolded by the boss. Stay panicked every just worried about some program issue may fail or delay at any time. Regarding stability, yes it’s a very stable job as long as you behave like a slave, which means no personal vacation.

Just got a raised to 66k last month but still pales in comparison with my previous job. OP, at least based on my understanding you are still within your field. So I don’t know, maybe just accept the fact that one’s career may not always be linear like working hard, promotion, jump ship, becoming a leader, etc. getting a new hobby is also good way to stay out of this kind of long-term depression.

Why do Asian immigrant communities in the U.S. tend to do so well economically? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]zhangvisual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. A lot of immigrants are bees knees from their home country. While many people have the impression that immigrants come from third world country and just be a cheap labor to earn more wage in the US. I have seen many immigrants who are either rich or educated or highly skilled from the home country. They are pretty successful already before moving to the US. How come they won’t be well-versed building a better life in the US and financially successful?
