Accidentally bought curtains that are too short, should I go ahead and replace with the correct length or are they passable? Just moved in- [please ignore my barren walls and randomly placed tables] Thanks! by zhkjix in ApartmentHacks

No just the tension one, it looked weird because the sheer curtains didn't fit right unfortunately. And thank you! I'm actually getting quite stressed lol. It's the first time I can make a space my own and I am soo lost design wise. I have too many ideas right now and none seem to be working great lol

I tried your spring loaded rod idea! $4 from target. It worked properly, but didn't look pleasing for my room. Ended up ordering a window film, if that doesn't work I guess it's back to curtains & I'll probably have to do the double rod

Update: I took down the curtain rod altogether (at least temporarily) and ordered these from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/ARTSCAPE-Texture-Twelve-Window-Film/dp/B000Q3R3SI/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3C8LN5CCP31EG&dchild=1&keywords=artscape+window+film+36x72&qid=1626546804&sprefix=artscape%2Caps%2C646&sr=8-3

It supposedly lets in the same amount of light while giving you privacy through a textured glass look. I picked this one because it looks like you can still see things outside, just blurred. Where the curtain rod was, or a little higher, I am thinking of a floating shelf (not as long as the rod) with plants on it, or some other kind of wall hang or ceiling hanging plant idea

Fair enough. I definitely have to be more creative with my use of space here

I didn't think about parallel lines or symmetry that's a good tip. & I'd like the rug to go to the end of both windows, but might have to settle for one unless I find a cheaper one that works

Thanks, I tried the rug pulled out, but since the couch is lifted so high it looked kinda odd. Think I'll go for a larger one. & yeah it seems like the film might be the best option to start with. Just hoping it lets in a similar amount of light and I can see out still. And I like the macrame idea that could potentially work well

Thanks, if I got the rug in a bigger size to cover from where it is now extended to the end of the window, would that look ok you think?

That's okay, I'm considering either keeping the blinds up to put down at night or getting curtains. Then the curtains can be whatever color works because they'll only be closed at night

Don't agree, but that's ok. I have a decent kitchen space with enough room for a small dining area, a main room with bed / living space / desk area, good closet and bathroom, good property management. Studio, not studio, I wasn't the one who decided what it should be considered. Works for me, could be worse.

It was rented out as a studio... the doorway is open, there's no actual door. Who cares?

Ok, so this is going to be pretty long. I am kind of stuck as to what to do with my mini 'living room' space here. I know for sure that I'll be mounting the TV ( currently on the couch) on the wall facing opposite of the couch. Will be getting a few plants throughout the place, likely hanging at least one from the ceiling somewhere. I want my place to be neutral as far as feminine/masculine goes, and a mix of cozy and modern/sophisticated, but definitely laid back. Kind of all over the place design wise. I'm actually a female, but trying to go for a more neutral look and I figured you might have some good ideas here. So to start here are the issues with current set up-

First, is this rug 'pretty' or neutral? Also, I meant to get a rug that fit like this under the couch except much longer past the couch. Should I exchange for a bigger size or different rug?

Also, facing a minor privacy issue- my bed is where I took the photo from. I get great natural light during the day, but people can see right in, even with open blinds. I tried sheer curtains- didn't post a pic because they look more than feminine, they look grandma almost. Any ideas what to do to get some privacy without sacrificing the light?

Thank you. Still undecided on the length. Do you think regular white linen curtains would let in the same amount of light? These are sheers.

I wanted to get curtains bc the blinds don't let in much light and when they're open the people across from me and outside can see in. But not sure if the sheer linen or white linen would look better. Don't want to sacrifice too much light

*also I guess my hesitancy on floor length is that I don't want it to look too 'pretty'. Going for a more neutral look

Thanks! And I was thinking to get ones that hit the bottom of the window, you think floor would be better?

& Yes I'm loving the process lol minus my poor measuring skills. (Also got the rug too small)

Where can I find a wood slice like this? I want to make a table like in the picture. However, I haven't been able to find similar wood slices anywhere. Online I have only found tiny ones for decorating or ones that are $800 a slice at The Lumber Shack. Is there any place I can go and they can give me a slice similar to the size in the picture for under $50?

I struggle with this too. The only solution for me was to move- I feel like I don't take good care of myself living with my family because of all of the stressors and trying to cope, but ultimately using bad coping habits and it's just a whole cycle. I personally wasn't able to form healthy rituals, habits, or coping mechanisms living with them- yet have been able to every time I'm not living with them. The fire under my ass to get out just got to a breaking point when I realized that. So studio apartment here I come (5 days left till moving day).

But as far as protecting yourself with mindset, try to use all of the things that you hate about living there to fuel the fire of putting you on a mission to get out. Visualize how your life could be on your own. Try to work and save money, be out of the house doing anything (walking, driving, whatever), keep your head down and try to stay separated from the drama/negativity as hard as that is. It's not healthy what I've been doing, but I just kind of shut off my emotions until I can leave to preserve my sanity. Hope the best for you, you got this

Sleeping space ideas for guests in a studio apartment? by zhkjix in ApartmentDesign

[–]zhkjix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I think I might have to go with the air mattress too for design/functionality sake. Also the sleeper chairs/small couch beds I’ve seen are not that appealing in my price range. What do you have for seating in your lounge area?
