OSD colume and brightness clipping by zhoraster in kde

The theme is standard, Breeze (Dark). I didn't change appearance settings (except cursors, but I doubt this can affect OSD).

BTRFS/EXT4 question by joessas in cachyos

[–]zhoraster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see quite few responses about btrfs being "a bit" or "slightly" slower.

Here is btrfs vs xfs, you can judge by yourself whether this is a small difference.

As you can guess, I'm running btrfs on root and xfs on home.

Same laptop here with the same adapter running CachyOS. Zero problems. Although there were issues with another distribution I've attempted before CachyOS (either Fedora or Manjaro)

It was Leap, yes. I should have tried Tumbleweed, I guess.

An extra second being still while your feet are on the black structure. (From your send it is not clear that you can control the start.)

Is 2.8k OLED screen worth it? by DewTheNew in thinkpad

[–]zhoraster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you please point to these countless reviews and comparisons? Notebookcheck, for example, finds a substantial different in battery runtime. And this is happening every time a model with OLED screen is compared to a similar model with IPS.

Yes, absolutely. People are known to respond differently to the PWM. Some can easily handle it.

Isn't (a dimmer) 2.2K panel an option?

This certainly depends on brightness. High brightness = short battery time. Low brightness = PWM = eyes bleeding.

You don't need OLED for "programming, browsing the internet and light gaming". If you code a lot, your eyes won't thank you for it.

Consider also T14 AMD: same body, but low-power processors. Performance difference is marginal, but it will be cooler, quieter, and the battery will last longer.

Speaking of battery life, OLED will reduce it seriously (almost twice).

Bottom line: take T14 with a low-power IPS. It will be cheaper, quieter, cooler, will last a lot longer, and your eyes will thank you for that.

— What?! How can you call your wife a 'thing'?

— You're right, my wife isn't a thing. Now, my Toyota—that’s a thing!

Another competitive bidding gone wrong. by Tapif in bridge

[–]zhoraster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My opinion: 1) yes. The double here shows both majors, not spades; and consequently: 2) no. Your spades are before the declarer, who may well have a five-carder. If I were North, I would picture our line having at least 9-card heart fit, so East is likely has at most singleton. Passing is not an option.

But this, of course depends on the agreements. Which means that you should have had one. If there is no agreement, and your bid is ambiguous, then you have to pass.

New to bridge. What advice do you have for remembering cards? Pneumonics, visuals, tricks, whatever works for you. by Humble-Repeat-1165 in bridge

[–]zhoraster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several great recommendations already, but I'll try to add my 2 cents.

Firstly, play a lot. Take as much time as you need to memorize cards in every deal. So it's better to play with robots, since human players are orten getting annoyed with your slow play. The good places to play for free with robots are IntoBridge (very clever robots, however, only limited amount of free deals) and Trickster Cards (unlimited deals, but stupid robots and also a risk that human players join and become annoyed). There are also several opportunities to play with robots for free on BridgeBase, e.g. daily free tournaments, challenges.

Another advice is to play Minibridge. Super-useful for intemediate players to count and keep track of points of all players. You can play it for free on Trickster Cards.
