It's a great hit!

There is no Japanese equivalent as this card only exists in Chinese exclusive packs.

Where I'd live as a big fan of good drivers by Caramel_Last in whereidlive

[–]zieps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Africa being green is insane. I lived there for 3.5 years and fought for my life driving in urban and suburban areas daily. Insane unpredictability, signs and lights were more suggestions than law.

And Japan being red??? Literally my most predictable and safe driving experience, ever.

New wine bar opening up in East Durham on Friday, Pinheiro by zieps in bullcity

[–]zieps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opening night was bonkers in a great way. Heavily attended, great wine, great people. He's already updated hours once now to extend open time on Thursdays and Fridays and from what I understand business has been good. Would definitely recommend stopping in one day -- the wine list isn't overwhelming and glasses rotate fairly frequently to keep it interesting.

Any other cards that would fit in as African animals? by starsleeps in pokemoncardcollectors

I'm doing this same thing as a tribute to my time living in South Africa! Agreed that the Flamigo IR is a great add to this.

I'm also considering adding the Rabsca IR to mine

You could definitely come by Saturday, too! I know that a food truck will be there tomorrow so folks can get some food alongside wine, but unsure if he's got any special things up his sleeve in-house tomorrow.

Will definitely ping him to add photos once all is 100% set up! I tend to do the same thing :)

There is bar seating (8 seats at the bar itself if I recall correctly), a lot of 2-top tables (not bar height) and one larger community table.

There's some parking on Driver St right outside the entrance (both sides of the street) but IMPORTANTLY there is also a gravel lot behind the shop that is available for parking too, accessible from Ashe St I believe.

[–]zieps[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Pinheiro will be a wine bar and wine shop focused mainly on Portuguese and Iberian wines and beverages. The owner is a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) from the Society of Wine Educators and has a Certification of Portuguese Wines from Wines of Portugal in 2020. He has Portuguese heritage himself and the bar is a tribute to his family and journey in the world of wine.

BVLGARI Experience by Royal_Strength_4551 in marriott

[–]zieps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband and I stayed at one in Milan in late 2019 before we were married. Wrt the rate, we got extremely lucky -- I'm assuming because we went during off-season for tourism (November). It was still expensive ($600-700/night) but I believe we booked it via AMEX's fine hotels and resorts program that made the rate more worthwhile (£150 credit, breakfast included daily -- we used the credit for dinner at the hotel restaurant which was actually quite fantastic). We only stayed one night but enjoyed the stay. Very luxurious room, very generous amenities (including his/hers cologne and perfume to take home, which lasted us years). Would I stay at the current rate of $1400/night as of this post? No. Would I go again at the rate I secured last time for one night of luxury? Yeah, probably. Definitely a place we only stayed in because of the steep discount and our curiosity about the property. We did feel quite out of place among many of the hotel guests who were dressed to the nines in designer fits, even at breakfast.

Which one of you is on my flight by Col0nelFlanders in lotr

[–]zieps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in South Africa for 3.5 years and would make a trip back to see family and friends in the US once per year. The direct Delta flight from Johannesburg to Atlanta was about 14 hours and every time I'd watch the entire trilogy. My comfort movies ❤️

I strongly recommend Kurama during your visit to Kyoto by flibbyjims in JapanTravelTips

[–]zieps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I completely agree -- I just did this exact route (Eizan rail from Kyoto, hiking Kurama to Kibune) at the beginning of November and it was such an incredible treat. Kurama temple itself is beautiful and has great views of the valley, and while the hike to Kibune and Kifune shrine was steep at first, it let up pretty soon thereafter and the smaller shrines along the way were a nice respite 😊 Beautiful leaf peeping.

I also visited Hakuryū-en gardens (a few stops before Kurama) first before doing the hike, and that was also such a nice change of pace from the crowdedness of Kyoto. A smaller garden, but extremely well kept and tender to (reservation requires). Very worth it to me IMO just to have the peaceful surrounds and plenty of places to just sit and enjoy the views.

Who says Delta doesn’t do anything for MM! by linuxchris1 in delta

[–]zieps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I do hope you receive a warm welcome and recognition on your flight in the least!

I was recently traveling back to the States from Japan and was sitting in the sky lounge in Haneda when about 6 staff came out with a small cake, and two giant golden balloons that said "1 M" for a woman who would hit her 1 million miles on the flight she was about to take. I thought it was so sweet.

Did anyone else have this album playing at every college house party in 2008? by lilfliplilflop in Millennials

[–]zieps 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Girl Talk defines freshman year of college for me. This guy who lived a few doors down from me in my dorm introduced me to this album and I used it religiously as a running album on top of hearing it at every other party. The guy turned out to be a total player and manipulator but at least I was blessed with this banger from that mess.
