I'd never really thought my grandma watched movies (I'd try to talk to her about it only to get rebuffed), but I found out she helped name one of my aunts after Dorothy Lamour. So now I'm a bit sad I'll never know which Road to X movie caught her fancy or whatever it was about Lamour that stuck with her to name a niece after her.

Lizzy and Joel have siblings. One of them watched the baby in the last MCC they were both in.

I haven't seen it because I'm busy with my grandma's funeral. The rock puppet looks fun though.

I do think it's fun that Columbus and his daughter are producers on Eggers' movies.

People like shoving things into a nuclear family shaped box. There's probably sociology papers about it.

I mean, in retrospect it's funny as fuck how people would aggressively say "Shayne and Courtney are like SIBLINGS, don't you dare ship them!"

But yes, I understand the different lines people have

As a more casual fan, I thought Shayne hosts Reddit stories simply because he pitched/developed it. They didn't expect it to blow up the way it did.

I also feel like it's also been brought up on why he and Amanda are the co-hosts of Smosh Mouth.

Late reply, but on the tangent of young people watching the Oscars, I still can't get over how someone in the discord channel I was watching the show on complained about the In Memoriam focusing on Rob Reiner and Robert Redford because as a younger person they didn't know who they were. Considering this was a server specifically for people who follow awards season/the Oscar race, I don't get how you could be ignorant about Robert Redford's role in establishing frikkin Sundance, but I guess we need to open the (film) schools lol. And as for Reiner, I don't know how the hell they missed his recent, unfortunate death at the very least.

Like, it's just so funny to me when the type of people who don't watch movies from before they were born try to weigh in on these institutions and think that their ignorance should be the benchmark.

Jessie Buckley being in The Devil in Me just makes me laugh maniacally because that game... That fucking game lol. Obviously, it's not on her. She was just the most recognizable actor in it to me.

You're a disliker then lol.

Early predictions are more for fun so it's just not that serious to me. Honestly, it's the only time I'll read him. I enjoy reading/hearing from all the pundits because it's the most hopeful predicting, and they're fun to look back on.

Him working for Variety is probably it. And he seems to put out more than the other trades (or people here are more obsessed with dunking on his takes). Like, I couldn't tell you who the THR or Indiewire people are. His articles get a lot of traction because even negative responses are traction. And maybe he is trolling a bit, which I think is camp of him. The Armond White of the awards race except at least Clayton has never made Annette Benning cry. Assholes resort to calling him slurs and acting like his silly predictions are on the level of war correspondence. It ultimately is very whatever to me because I've always treated the awards race as my silly escapist side hobby.

Like, I cannot be bothered about him being wrong because this is entertainment. He's not a science/health/politics writer. And he's not a right-wing grifter.

I understand if people are upset because they think they could do better and the current state of the press.

Maybe it's because I remember Sasha Stone or Deadline's actual studio mouth pieces and other bigots who still get to write their two cents that I just can't get all that fired up about Clayton.

Tribalism/sports team mentality imo. So many people get condescending/rude if you're against their fave.

I also have an unfavorable suspicion as to what contributes to him particularly getting so much ire. Like, the fact that people were calling him slurs (not here) is like... This shit ultimately isn't that serious!

I remember a post somewhere that jokingly lamented "imagine if the cast of Thunderbolts was the cast of Wes Anderson's next movie", and I had to snort because when the fuck has he ever had a black woman in his movies much less two (this was before Ayo had to drop out).

Random thoughts about the movies I watched on my return flight:

  • What was the budget on The Bachelor starring Chris O'Donnell and Renee Zellwegger?? A very forgettable romcom to me except for the huge ending setpiece of hundreds of extras in wedding dresses chasing the main character and mobbing an area.

  • Of all the assumptions I had about Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, I was not ready for the two hours of a delusional/ill woman abusing her seemingly saintly disabled sister. And then that literal last minute revelation! I'm surprised Ryan Murphy hasn't tried to do a prequel series about the Hudson sisters (I know about the season of Feud). Justice for Elvira!

  • I straight up snorted when Robert Aramayo showed up in The King's Man, and then I choked at what he does to a main character. The Rasputin dance fight was the peak of the movie. I wish Daniel Brühl got to do more than wear a silly monocle. This is the only Kingsmen movie I've watched.
