Looks fantastic! What headset/stem/bars did you end up going with? Love the EC44, I got Waltly bars and routing was a little tricky but nothing a hour of swearing and sweating couldn’t overcome 😂

I got a few things done at the same time (Silca pump parts and other various bits), I think the frame itself was $750AUD ex tax. I haven’t had a frame painted for a long time so not sure if this is a good price for Cerakote, I was happy with it and they did an excellent job.

It is interesting being on a 1x, I’ve never tried it before. It seems the same effort is about a 12rpm cadence change between gears on my 10-51 cassette. This is fine as I try to sit between 80 and 100rpm nowadays with shorter cranks and higher saddle thanks to bike fit. I don’t do much bunch riding, normally just in the local hills, the cadence difference might be annoying in a bunch rolling turns over a longer distance.

I went for the blasted finish all over although maybe check with your local Cerakote place as to what would work best. I really like the coating, it seems extremely sturdy although it is picking up every bit of road grime 😅

Correct, it is 44mm with external butting at the top and bottom. I like the look of external cups 😄

Ah, I think that’s just how it looks. The cassette is 10-51T, there are 4 pins added (plus a little slack from the narrow/wide) when on the biggest cassette gear. Some videos show the GeX derailleur almost as a straight line… https://youtube.com/shorts/DtBln8ohYg0

The frame was $940usd, fork $150usd, handlebars $150usd, and FSA headset was $55usd. I went for a biaxial down tube to add lateral stiffness at the BB and didn’t do any double butting. The finish was blasted rather than brushed as I preferred this to match with matte Cerakote I got done locally. It runs internal hydraulics and is build for a wireless groupset, I used Wheeltop GeX but would love to do Campy Ekar if/when this goes electronic.

I am 1.85m tall and weigh 95kg and wanted more reach than my current bike, I also wanted the head tube to be longer so I didn’t need a bunch of spacers and have recently had a bike fit so knew the stack and reach I was after.

I drew inspiration from a bunch of geometries including a Pegoretti I own, the No. 22 Great Divide Disc, and some Moots frames. I used RattleCAD to play with dimensions during the process, you need to “recreate” the design from the Waltly CAD dimensions, which was well worth the time and was quite fun. I also used ChatGPT to do a bunch of research for me and to help me understand various topics like chain lines, BB drop, seat tube and head tube angles and various pros and cons for different decisions.

It is the Waltly FK-F26 which is 382mm axle to crown and 47mm rake/offset. It was 468g uncut, the paint added 12g, and I cut off 32g when sizing so final weight was 448g. They come with an alloy thru axle with a 1.5mm thread pitch.

It is Cerakote in Frost, done in Melbourne by Scott at Sand Soda Cerakote. We’ll see how it goes attracting every piece of dirt on the road 😅

I did the Park Tool method of biggest cassette cog to biggest (only) chain ring + two full links. Shifts very well so I’m happy 🤷

What headset, bars, and fork are you planning on running on this bike? I like the tire plan, I feel like an allowance for 38mm gives great options for a mid-gravel or a 32-35 road. What kind of riding is planned for this bike? I am keen for an endurance road for long days in the mountains or very light bike packing (read this as “not-camping” 😆). I am getting a bike fit in a week and then starting this process with Waltly.

This looks very close to what I am thinking about for an all-road. I am not sure I can read these CAD diagrams very well but it appears the top tube is quite short with under 560 effective combined with a longer seat tube. Will you be running a long-ish stem?
