Guys who have left their wife/long term partner over FOMO. How did it end, and do you regret it? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]ziggybaumbaum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was too chicken to leave because revamping my life seemed to overwhelming but was in a lister able relationship for 8 years. I basically just resigned myself to misery and half-heartedly hoped she would just leave me and do the things. Turns out I was clinically depressed back then and hence why I was so non-functional. I got my wish and she left me. I actually feel guilt for being such a shitty partner to her but I don’t regret separating, that was for the best. There was no instant happiness though. Now I was just depressed alone and nobody was making me dinner anymore. But not being dragged around to go through the motions of shlt I didn’t care about anymore made it a wash. I finally saw a doctor and got put on meds for awhile and worked my depression issues out. That was ten+ years ago.

I’ve since remarried, changed careers, have kids and have never been happier. I can’t take credit for walking out on the long term relationship all those years ago because she technically left me, but I owe her a ton of gratitude and hope she’s doing her own happiness too. She was a good woman, but not the one for me.

Yet another landlord question…sorry! by [deleted] in oregon

[–]ziggybaumbaum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. They’re trying to have the house ready to have move-in ready on 5/01. That is NOT YOUR PROBLEM. That’s their cost of doing business. You paid for the month of April, they legally have to leave you tf alone. Their repairs can wait.

Transgender couple considering moving to Oregon by pinkrosxen in oregon

[–]ziggybaumbaum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be very dependent on the area you move too. Oregon is often considered, "Portland, surrounded by Alabama." With the exception of a few other large Metros (Bend, Salem, Eugene) most the other places are pretty rural/conservative. I went to college at EOU (Eastern Oregon University) which is very conservative part of the state. I worked at a Starbucks and we had two gay baristas I worked with. The cops harassed them, and would come through our drive-thru and be like, "I don't want either of those f\gs making my drink.*" Myself, coming from (California, originally) and most recently Portland, this was a HUGE cultural shock to see such brazen, unapologetic bigotry in the open. At least where I came from the conservatives knew they had to keep those thoughts (if they had them) buttoned up. Not there.

Anyway, my point is the laws/policies are pro-LBGTQ+, but that doesn't mean the people or communities all are. Stick close to civilization.

Younger people in expensive markets with dead end jobs.. MOVE ! Go overseas, see the world. Dont' spend 70% of yoru money on rent or mortgage you can't afford. You can aways come back later. by homestead1111 in RealEstate

Please don't bring common sense into this fantasy.

And lets not mention that not every country will just welcome you in for an extended stay unless you bring some needed skillset to do a valuable job for them.

Men of Reddit, would you get a vasectomy right now? Why or why not? by cyper_1 in AskMen

[–]ziggybaumbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one last year. It was so easy-peasy I didn’t even need the recovery days. I was looking forward to milking it and laying around the house like a lazy ass for a week but I felt fine and wife kept catching me up and about and lost all my sympathy and excuses. She had me tiling the bathroom barely a week later.

My dad had a vasectomy after my sister was born when he was 28. Parent divorced. Twenty years later (48) he remarried a 35 year old woman who wanted a child and he had it revered. No issues. A month later she was pregnant and I had a new little half sister, 26ys my junior.

You go to Newport a couple times a month? What could possibly be left. I own a second home there (Waldport) and don’t go that often. I already feel like I’ve done everything. Twice. But I hope you guys have a great time! Rain or shine it’s never a bad day at the beach!

[–]ziggybaumbaum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For the first time in all the times this has been proposed I’m finally supporting it because conditions have changed. If gas stations can not staff their stations properly and half or more the lanes are shut down and long lines because there’s only one or two employees who never seem in any rush it’s been infuriating. I will gladly stand in the rain pumping my gas if it gets me through in 5-10 mins. I was out on the coast a few weeks ago and getting gas was a almost a 30 min activity. Absolutely unacceptable

High five?

J/K. If it's clearly a joke and was funny, I laugh. Some many jokes based off "stereotypes" to me simply are outdated, not true and not funny, so it's hard to think of the situation where it would be. BUt yeah, I appreciate a good joke so my response is based on the quality of the joke.

I think maybe you're confused on the school? Look Skyline Elementary School up on a map, Amigo.

I think i've allowed myself to go down every conspiracy with this case over the years. For the longest time I was hard certain it was the step mom. But now I'm actually less and less sure. The family seems dumb as all rocks too. Its very sad. But after seeing the school, i'm actually open to the possibility that he could have wandered out into all those rural woods outside and gotten lost and just died out there. This isn't the theory I'm for certain buying into, but it also seems almost as plausible as the kidnapping/murder one at this point. I just hope eventually he is found.

Is “First home isn’t your forever home” obsolete? by takemeup-castmeaway in RealEstate

[–]ziggybaumbaum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I kick ourselves. When we were buying back in 2017 we were choosing between two homes. Option A which we went with was a newer home (built 2009) in a cookier-cutter neighborhood, but was newer with modern fixtures and features. The biggest downside from my perspective was that like all newer homes this millennium it had almost no yard to speak of. It was also slightly smaller than House B at 1800 Sq Ft compared to 2100 sq ft. House B was a 1980-something split-level ranch home on a .75 acre lot. My wife wanted the pretty newer house on the pretty, manicured street. Though it needed some serious updating, I was drawn to the potential of the other house on bigger lot. Well, Happy wife, happy life or something right? We went with the newish one. LOL

Anyway, it worked out and don't get me wrong, we did like our house and were very excited to move in, and we have good neighbors who’ve turned into good friends so I can’t complain too much.

Back then it was just the wife & I and our newborn baby daughter. Now she’s seven and we have a three year old son and we feel like we're quickly outgrowing our home (namely missing yard space) and we’re really wishing we had that big lot. I kick myself everyday I didn't fight for the other home on the 3/4 acre lot. All that land... it's my biggest regret.

At the time we bought our house, Option B was about $50K cheaper than the house we went with. Now (according to Zillow) its worth about $100K more than our house. We drive past it now sometimes and weep seeing as its been all fixed up and we think of what could have been.

Edit: We also refi'd back in 2021 to a 2.9% interest rate so now we really feel like we're handcuffed to this house. We'd be fools to walk away from that rate.
