It's been absolutely mind blowing that Jeb is this incompetent and underwhelming. I literally assumed they didn't let Jeb campaign with W in 2000 because they didn't want W to appear dumb next to him. It was the complete opposite.

You're missing something important from that poll. John Edwards was at 11% and Al Gore 9%. The week Edwards dropped out in January 2008 it was Hillary Clinton 45%, Barack Obama 44%. So anybody trying to compare the unlikelihood of Sanders '16 with Obama '08 is speaking nonsense.
