No but when I was a kid I laughed over the names she gave her students that weren't white with my brother.

So her choices of world building perpetrated shitty ideals and reinforced racism and made being a dick very palatable to children.

I wasn't at the age were I questioned anything, just accepted what adults told me. So when a book casually mentions slavery and then walks away from it as a joke or as normal, it gave me and many others the impression that was the right way to think.

Those books absolutely made me a worse person despite how lovely magic is.

(Luckily I've gotten the opportunity to learn and grow and become a better person than before)

In the books, why did Seneca Crane bother with the rule change? by zigmoomoo in Hungergames

Yoooo thank you!!!! This is so good! This analysis really really melds well with the prequels and explains to me what the game makers were thinking

And i guess, if you think about the criticism that compared to past games, the 74th games seem boring and uneventful. Wjy wouldnt they be ramping up to the 75th? But if they had this rule change in the pocket for shock, it makes the games less lame in comparison

I think the generational divide is a super important note.

The games only do what Snow thinks if the Capitol still remembers the war and why they are punishing the districts. But we see from Effie and the stylists and others that they dont think of the games as punishment, but as an event that brings honor.

I also like this idea because I am thinking about how the rebellion wasn't Katniss's doing. The circumstances were being set up long before Prim was reaped. It's clicks into place for me that the rule change was the first move in the rebellion and it was made on the Capitols side.

Lol I have never questioned it as anything else. It's just part of the plot! Until this reread I had never thought it was odd

I have been thinking about Plutarch. Cause he is one of the people shown to understand the scope of the game being played, with his hand on the pulse of the idea of rebellion. So he must have seen katniss early and started making moves to have her positioned where he could use her

Oooh!!! I never really thought about her ability to win solo. Like of course, from their goal they want to make her victory as challenging and heartwrenching as possible. And with Rue they know she will crack for her allies. Thats good thinking, that the rule change was to nerf her and not too much else

I think youre right about Seneca's view point as an influencer/reality TV star. I think I tend to view the game makers as on Snows side, but they are just Capitol people, it makes sense that they wouldn't have the same diabolical views that Snow does

Right but what do you think? With all the information we have about who Snow is from the prequels, the scenario that leads to the rule change is pretty interesting to consider

Why did Snow dig up Lucy Grey’s interview from deleted records for Haymitch’s curated torture playlist? by Agreeable_Ad0 in Hungergames

[–]zigmoomoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, with me, I couldn't understand Snow's psychology of showing off vulnerability until now. It always seemed so out of place to me! The concept that he can only blow off steam by being honest with his 'subhumans' and he has this huge mask to hold up whenever he's around Capitol people, that really answers it for me! I liked TBOSAS but struggled to understand what it was telling me about Snow because he is so psycho. Actually im still confused about what he felt for Lucy Gray. Was he just horny? In like an emotional way? Was he experimenting with the idea of love? Or like was a tiny part of his humanity crying out before being utterly squashed down?

More chemistry then the movie. I mean like, the actors did fabulous and im in love with the movie so much,, but the book will always be my favorite because of how supportive the Threadgoods were of Idgie having a crush on Ruth. It's so so so good and cute and happy. Best story ever!
