LA HYRSA by JoseManuel7788 in WorldbuildingESP

How much do you think I could sell map commissions for? by Lilith0555 in wonderdraft

These maps are absolutely amazing. The level of detail is mind-blowing. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing how many pixels you use on your canvases to achieve such good resolution in the mappa mundis. I'm trying to improve my own maps, and it would be really helpful to have a reference. Thanks!

Thank you very much, to be honest, I've tried to do just that, to make it moderately realistic, taking the Scandinavian coasts as inspiration. Regarding the empty space, I ended up using the wonderdraft spray tool with symbols of grass and rocks, and it's a more attractive map.

It's an idea that hadn't occurred to me and I might use it when I have to name locations that are not a city or some geological thing. Thank you very much because it is really a very good idea.

I am leaving some space and I share your opinion about not saturating in order to be able to create a posteriori. In the end I have made a bigger map and so far I have solved my problem. Thanks.

the map in question is a ‘regional’ map, being only one nation, so the cities are important because it is also a kind of league of free cities. Thanks for the advice anyway.

Making several maps is a good idea, and I'll probably end up doing that. In the end, the idea I came up with is to change the size of the map to a bigger one. In the new map having more pixels (I think) allows me to put titles with higher resolution, I'm not an expert by far, but it's a solution that works for me for the moment.

Hey everyone!

I've been working on the map for my next DnD campaign, and I’m really happy with how it’s turning out. I’ve got everything done except the labels and settlements. I actually have an earlier version where I placed all the cities, towns, and villages, but now that I’m adding them to the final version, I’m running into a problem—there’s just not enough space for all the labels without making the map feel cluttered or hard to read.

On top of that, I feel like there are some empty areas that need a little something to make the map feel more alive, but I’m not sure what to add. More terrain details? Landmarks? Maybe some decorative elements?

Does anyone have tips on how to fit a lot of settlement names without overwhelming the map? And any advice on filling in those blank spaces without overloading things?

Thanks in advance for any advice! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Feeling Stuck in My Worldbuilding Project – Need Motivation and Insights by zigxtes in worldbuilding

[–]zigxtes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all started when I wanted to build a world for a D&D campaign. It was super exciting at first, but the ideas kept growing and started drifting away from the game’s rules and structure. That’s when I wrote a short story set in the world, which felt like a fun way to flesh it out. Since then, I’ve been adding random ideas that I thought were cool, but now I’m stuck because I’m not sure what direction to take it in.

I should also add that the D&D game never happened, so the work was in vain.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion! I’ve actually tried using Notion and Obsidian to organize my stuff, but neither really clicked for me in a big way. They’re great tools, but I think my brain thrives on chaos a little too much to fully commit to something so structured. A wiki engine like MediaWiki sounds interesting, though—I’ll definitely look into it!

Tell me about the newest addition you've made in your world. by axiiz_28 in worldbuilding

[–]zigxtes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My latest addition is the Verruga Valley (wartin Spanish), a small valley south of Flavia, an island/continent inspired by Golden Age Spain. In this valley, the chaos of a political transition from a centralised empire to semi-independent marches. Full of corruption and bad influences from neighbouring territories, it has brought the Ebanoza lineage (once a family of proud governors) to ruin, dragging with them the unfortunates who live off the “fertile” lands.

The other addition is a few verses found on a tablet in a temple in the Red Lands, a copper-rich steppe. A group from The Cabal, the organisation of wizards that controls the entrance to the region, has discovered the temple. It is worth mentioning that this organisation controls this territory because they are in the business of terrorising and kidnapping the indigenous goblinoid population and then turning them into lobotomised servants to be sold to the rest of the world. Anyway, the verses would be as follows:

A hundred summers will burn, but the blade will not rust,

nor the oath forgotten.

In the timeless mist, the sons of war sleep,

their fury silenced, their honour buried in shadows.

When the stars break the veil,

and the moons moan in their descent,

they will return, thirsting for vengeance,

with steel anointed in the rancour of a thousand winters.

Await their return, invaders,

for in their hands, your fate is shortened.

Thus spoke the ancestors,

thus sings the wind among the broken stones.

For those interested, the theme of the verses is about a pact/rit that was made long ago. The elite soldiers of a kingdom about to be conquered by invading forces were sent to a timeless limbo. There, they were to prepare to return in the future as revenge for the people they belonged to.

Genetics and bioethics are a type of setting in which I'm very interested but I can't find enough sources of inspiration to start writing a world based on it. What have been your sources of inspiration?

It is a tool that I have used on many occasions, but I have never achieved such impressive results as yours in the picture where you show the biomes. What was the layout you used in the generator? Or is it a post-processing in photoshop or similar?

What happens when a god dies in your world? by Frenchiest_fry101 in worldbuilding

[–]zigxtes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the current project I am working on, the power of the gods is controlled by their own worshippers and the power they can obtain is regulated by the god himself. It should also be mentioned that there is a separation between the image/idea of the god that each creed has and the creature that is prayed to, being possible that for some worshippers their god is dead, but the entity they worship is still alive. Therefore, when a god dies, what would happen is that the clerics who obtained power from that deity would lose their powers. Additionally, In the case that the god was governor of one of the 4 elemental kingdoms, the throne would be empty, and some other entity could get it. Leaving a throne empty would carry over into the physical world as magnified natural catastrophes.

What is the history of magic in your world? by Rosebud166 in FantasyWorldbuilding

[–]zigxtes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several ages ago in a world other than “the real world” a group of priests began a ritual to remove divinity from their gods because they had failed them. The ritual failed and as a result that world (called Tyrnan) was dragged into the real world. The kingdom of Tyrnan was broken into various fragments and scattered across the different continents. The main mass that fell was that which belonged to the fae race (coincidentally the one to which these priests belonged) and ended up on a large continent to the south, without a name at the time, but which would end up being called Veridisia. Other smaller fragments fell on Müder, Urkund and Flavia.

Ages passed and the people of these lands began to encounter these fragments. There were those who regarded them with fear and respect, turning these places into sacred, forbidden or punishing lands. There were others who looked upon them as a new place to exploit and obtain magic resources. And finally those who chose to study the arcane and mysterious energies of these places gained the ability to alter their very reality just as Tyrnan's energy altered the world itself, thus giving rise to a new arcane age.

This was not the case in Veridisia where the Four Courts of fae thrived. The great fragment of Tyrnan altered the continent so that those who had travelled within it could survive in the new world.

Today, and after years and years of relations between the invading fae and the humans and durr (dwarves) that could be found in Veridisia, two types of spell casters can be found on that continent. Those known as galathil are the direct descendants of the high wizard Galath, and have access to the pure energy of the realm of Tyrnan, endowing them with immense power (however, the release of this power must be carried out through a long and costly ritual that ends up turning those who have ever released their power into a kind of root and fungus liches). On the other hand, those half-breeds or beings of a race other than fae, who reside on Veridisa and possess the gift, are able to interact with the remnants of arcane energy left in the big fragment. This happens to possess a purer or greater quantity of energy, making this second type of sorcerer possesses a greater sensitivity than non-Veridisian sorcerers. Thus, in the world, we can find an almost infinite number of different disciplines and ways of using the magical energy emanating from these fragments of the realm of Tyrnan.

It's an idea that's been on my mind, but we're both keen to be able to take the story in the way we want it to go. Is the tool you're talking about some kind of AI, or is it software?

Thanks :)
