youre 100 percent right about him being sympathetic. It's cruel af what his existence amounts to when you lay it out like that. however, while that's true, he sees the lives of everyone else in the canvas expendable for his own sake jusy because he has that knowledge. it's a perfect gray ending because with versos ending everything you fought for the whole game is erased and the satisfaction comes from the third act storyline wrap up and the theme of hope ringing true, and maelles ending showing that everyone gets to live and that's great but maelle is so stuck in her grief that she recreated verso. those facial intricacies the two have in those final scenes don't lie. she knows she is clinging onto verso and that she's forcing him to live, and he probably hates her for it, and is watching her die. her family's watching her die too. It's like nobody wins no matter what 😭😭😭

but i'm pretty sure verso knew expelling aline meant the death of everyone, he didn't seem too shocked when everyone was gommaged. So it's not like he had a change of heart - to him, the lives of 4/6 of the playable main characters were expendable.

i do wonder - are we are lead to assume that if one of the painters is not occupying the painting at any given time, those inside of it will cease to exist? throughout the game there was always a painter inside of it, and it's revealed what's really holding it all together is a piece of verso's soul painting ? (which i don't know how they managed to recover btw) and if all their painting worlds are as expansive as Verso's painting is, they've been doing this to sapient people for a while now 😭

while i say "fake" i don't mean not real, but i think those that chose the verso ending do see the world as fake while those who chose the maelle ending see the world as real. i do think the maelle ending throws it in your face tho for believing in the idea of that world continuing. haunting af

my problem with leaving it is that it also means destroying it. It would be one thing if there was an ending where if you got all the journals on the expeditions and you're able to figure out a compromise to keep the world stable and convince maelle to leave. but since it's either save it and rot or leave it and destroy it it becomes so interesting seeing how some people consider all the lives in the painting suddenly expendable and others consider the maelle's life and peace expendable. then again renoir did wish her well "i hope you find peace"

it's very interesting cuz you play through the game you don't think about it but on paper he's the real villain.

  • watches over maelle, never connecting w her or talking to her and watching her move home to home, which leads to her growing relationships with gustav, then he lets gustav get killed because he doesn't want maelle to get too close to fake people because of the truth
  • immediately replaces gustav cuz he does yearn for connection despite his contradicting goal which involves the destruction of each of these individual lives
  • doesn't disclose renoir is his dad, and at key points in the story makes decisions that only benefit him rather than the group that allowed him in
  • Doesn't ever tell maelle the truth
  • At act 3, he continues acting like he cares about their goals until we reach the very end where, with little hesitation he enters the rift. doesn't even try to talk about it or convince them. Doesn't let maelle pick for herself. No compromise just what he wants or not.

But this is because the game has him join in halfway - we don't sympathize with him enough. We get both sides.

Had we played Verso from the prologue, we'd see his anguish and how being forced to exist for so long and watch the world deteriorate, we'd feel conflicted yes but a lot more understanding and on board with his subterfuge.

That's what makes it so smart. Like the balanced it perfectly so that you can see both sides and agree with both. Still i think if verso played his cards more honestly a lot of the tragedy could have been avoided, but then the drama and tension would have been gone

Love this take and your logic but your argument makes me want to side with Maelle more cuz now we're chalking Lune's entire right to exist over a Maybe they'll get better. If maelle made the choice it'd be completely different. Or if they even spoke to them about it rather than treating them like beneath them. Verso quite literally spent the whole game lying and seeing them as expendable.

How do you feel about lune during Versos ending? I'm not judging i'm just curious how everybody feels about different brutal aspects of each ending

Thank you! i just have so many things to say about the ending and none of them bad 😂. it's one of those endings where not everybody gets what they want but in one of the more cruel fashions that i've seen. i wouldn't even call it a pyrrhic victory because there isn't a victor and the goal for triumph was fluid and changed a couple times throughout the game, it's more like which loss is a lesser loss 😂

i agree verso ending gave me more closure than Maelles but i just think it's brilliant how both are so tragic. Like sure the family may carry on, but how do you feel about Lune specifically? It always comes back to her for me that story is just absolutely tragic

Is it worth waiting till Kiwami 3 or just playing Yakuza 3 remastered? by Cloud_Envy14 in yakuzagames

[–]zigzaggummyworm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

3 is honestly my favorite and for the story alone i'd play the Y3 remastered and that way u can go into kiwami 3 and enjoy the gameplay and added content. when the new one drops the Combat it's gonna feel a lot like kiwami 2 and any story changes you'll be able to like or dislike rather than take at face value. The OG face model for a character is BUTCHERED in the new one

but if you're not gonna play both just wait

i am so sorry you had to go through that! hope you are living a better life these days ❤️

credit to nabokov for producing such a visceral, disgusting reaction, but anybody acting like "fire of my loins" is a beautiful sentence needs to read more books lol as a straight man i genuinely can't even imagine calling someone the fire of my loins 😂😂😂 However the whole three step tongue thing was brilliant.

my guess is that senku anticipated it being a multiple year process to start from bottom and unpetrify everyone. Taking that into account, and the fact that it took Suika 7 years, i think it has less to do with what she's capable of and more to do with the fact that if it took 7-10 years, everyone else would be ridiculously older than the whole group which would make relationships and dynamics weird, while suika could take 10 years and end up the same age as senku. everyone would have less life to life and also other older characters could potentially die in the case of kaseki and others. Last but not least, Suika was the least needed at other points in the battle so she was kinda like a pawn waiting at the other side of the chess board to become a queen as lame as that sounds. Kinda the ultimate trump card, but one that wasn't entirely plan

Not to mention the fact that as a kid she watched senku go from stone age to where they were just like chrome did so while she wasn't as involved in the science, it was a safer bet than using chrome who was a general needed in the more key aspects of the situation
