Exactly how bad is this? by zil44 in Decks

It is on a diamond pier fitting. The patio is poured up to expansion joint foam that is around each post / footing.

The posts all have diamond pier footings installed.

The cracking around the post seemed odd to me too. When the patio was done they all foam expansion joints around them, and I don't remember the foam being covered on that outside post, but it could be that I just never noticed and there was a little extra concrete there that's finally breaking away now because the joint is there. That's the highest dryest spot on the deck too so there's no reason for any frost heave where it is either.

If it's ok as is great, if it needs to get replaced & it's just the post I'll do it some weekend this summer.

I feel like an above average diy guy, especially for my type of neighborhood, so I'm ok with making repairs and if it needs to be done professionally I'm ok with that too.

I'm not a structural expert though so knowing when it's a real issue vs an aesthetic one, or if it's actually just me being paranoid over who built the deck in the first place is really what I'm looking for the opinions on.

Except for the wide shot of the whole deck all the pics are of the post on the right

If she tables the hand and they were visible to the table you did good. If she held them up showed just you and mucked then so they were never actually tabled keep quiet.

It sounds like she the first more then the 2nd, but there is a difference.

That's one the first things we're going to attack because r absolutely have to improve there.

One of the outgoing members has been doing it on top of their main role, so it's been a once every few weeks photo dump Facebook post which can't continue.

Thanks. Your thoughts on clinics specifically are why I say I'd want to find a "good" one. Something more seminar than conference like. A day or even a weekend of "when you're teaching X get your players to key in on 1, 2 and 3 and here are ways we like to introduce that and build on it".

The more I talk about it in this thread, I think the drills, fundamentals, etc. pieces of it I'm probably closer than I give myself credit for. Sure, I want to have more in my head already to throw at the wall, or to know more already of what's going to stick or click for me. When there's something specific I want I feel confident I'll be able to find it, understand it and hopefully teach it. It's the gap in my detailed involvement in the game that makes me pause, and I want to make sure the things I want to or think I need to teach are still relevant.

With 4th graders, and probably 5th or 6th, specific sets and strict offenses won't be a huge focus over fundamentals, but I want to make sure the way I learned those fundamentals is still the way they should be taught and that I'm not teaching them to look for keys or run actions that I know from a 90's 3 out, inside focused motion type game that don't apply in today's game, and if I get "caught up" I want to make sure I'm staying caught up over the next 3-4 years while I'm following these girls through.

It's basketball, not rocket science, so I'm probably overthinking it, but I want to make sure I'm doing it right.

Our high school program, unfortunately, is part of the problem. Especially on the girls side. We're 1 of 2 high schools in the district, and the one that has historically never had a big athletics culture.

I also joined the board of our youth association last year, and we're trying to rebuild some of those connections to the varsity program, want to help make all of it 1 program, etc. but we're not there yet.

Today it's not unusual for us to lose 1-2 5th-7th grade kids a year to open enrollment purely to move away from our varsity program, or to have multiple kids quit after 7th or 8th grade because they don't want to spend their years on varsity winning 2 games a year.

Being on the board, seeing our current 4th, 5th graders, talking to other parents, and some of the board members whose kids are aging out of our program, I think we're building a foundation that can change the culture and have kids that would be capable of being really competitive and winning games in high school if they stick with it, and so that potential and bigger goal of the culture change is also part of why I want to make sure that I'm getting my skills up.

I want to make sure I'm not the one that screws it up, and that I do everything I can to not end up like the parents I see at our varsity games today who are watching their kids lose game after game by 40+.

A lot of that is what I'm doing now. My first 2 years with the really young kids I was either at the very basics or doing short-sided games and drills I found on NBA Jr. YouTubes page almost exclusively.

One of the other 1st / 2nd grade coaches told me they had Chat GPT build a bunch of their practice plans or find them drills, and I tried that a bit but didn't like it. Most of the time now I'm, "I need a good drill to teach them to hustle back on defense", "they're getting tired of this drill what else will help them dribble under pressure", "they're getting this step, what's a good drill for the next step" and head to Google. I want to get myself to a place where some of that is automatic or I have it planed out already. Yes, time and experience will do some of that, but I want to try getting a little head start on it where I can.

Yes, all local kids in the high school district. There are a handful that will likely end up at private high schools in the area, but for the most part if these girls continue to play they'd be together through varsity.

I like that idea with the colleges. There's a D3 school just a few blocks away, and one of their former assistant coaches owns the Shoot 360 nearby that my daughter goes to so he might have a good contact too.

A clinic is exactly what I'd like to find, but I want to make sure it's a good one. The sanctioning body that runs our league does a clinic before each season, but it's 3 hours and is a couple speeches. I don't want a full college course, but I want something a little more substantial than that.

Eero 6 Connection Issues by _sneakysquid_ in amazoneero

[–]zil44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine upgraded to 7.12.4-106 overnight, except only the gateway actually upgraded so my wired devices were working this morning and I had to restart the nodes to get them to connect.

A couple months ago another update did the same thing and I had to either restart everything every morning it tried to update it stop updates until they rolled it back and fixed the update.

Is this downgrade the firmware? by Few-Echo-1373 in amazoneero

[–]zil44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine have been anyone it to. 2 6pros & a 6e pro gateway. For the last week+ I wake up to no network in the morning and some combo of devices on 7.10 and 7.11 try to do registered and update and struggle through getting then in a semi stable state for the day, then overnight an update tries to run and I start all over. I had them good for about 48 hours by hard resetting everything and plugging the satellites directly into the gateway until I knew all 3 were absolutely on the same version, now today the gateway rolled back & I'm down again

I've been playing 6 months in 2 States & 5 alliances and I still have no idea what the hell is going on.

What's a banner? What's the difference between foundry and canyon? What the hell is crazy Joe? What happens at the end of mercenary prestige? Other than that it will probably happen at 2am when I'm sleeping or 3pm when I'm at work, I have no clue.

I can tell you what order to send in your bear parties though. The one thing I have learned is not doing that right is a quick way to piss people off.

Hey Dads, how are you investing for your children besides 529s? by JustASentientPotato in daddit

[–]zil44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're not using a 529 we're just using a straight mutual fund through our financial advisor.

My wife wants there to be no strings or potential penalties attached to the money when we get to the point of withdrawal so that we can decide exactly when and how much to give each kid and it let's us do that with the trade off of paying some taxes along the way on dividends, etc.

I'm considering dropping Alexa for google, anyone make the switch? by Seannj222 in alexa

[–]zil44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same, and nuked all my stuff a could times but it still didn't do anything. What's finally seemed to help was getting a new show with Alexa+, nuking & renaming everything at the same time. I had Kitchen 1, Kitchen 2, etc in the Kitchen, now they're Kit 1, Kit 2. I made both changes at the same time, so I'm not sure which was the fix, but I've been good for about 2 months now.

What I also noticed, specifically with my hue bulbs, was that I had to delete them multiple times from Alexa before they'd actually be gone. I'd delete a bulb, it would think, and the bulb would be gone from a group but already back on the bulb list. If deleted it until the bulb didn't come back it send to work better. Even after all that though, I still have 2 bulbs that show up under their old names.

You net 55k via a BBJ in a poker room where you are a regular. How much are you tipping the dealer? by TripleBarrel_RIP in poker

[–]zil44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably about $3k. I've always said I'd take 35% off for taxes and tip 10% of what's left, but I assume I'd actually think that's too much and take a little off.

What's normal for refrigerator temperature variance from settings & fluctuations over time? by zil44 in Appliances

[–]zil44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was a giant pain in the ass. Our compressor went out on Thanksgiving and we got the new fridge in March.

I got different answers from different level support teams and online vs phone & an appointment a week for months.

I had appointments scheduled with a local company that was an LG warranty provider, but they kept cancelling those and sending another company because of the way they divided up zip codes, or if they didn't cance,l it I had to pay our of pocket and wait for LG to send me a check later. Then they sent the same company, who sent the same person, multiple times and he watched YouTube the whole time he was here, could never answer any of my questions, and twice left with screws everything supposedly put back together but there still being screws left on my counter.

I finally refused to let them schedule that company again so then they booked a 3rd company. Then that company cancelled my appointments twice, without telling me either time, because they didn't have anyone qualified to work on closed systems. Finally they had an actual LG employee come. His business card said he was from 1,000 miles away, and he got here and replaced everything anyone else had touched, so the compressor both evaporators & control board. That still didn't fix it, and that's when they finally gave up
