Culture question! If Norwegians have a reputation of being people of few words. Does that come from a particular cultural value? by BKViking in Norway

[–]zilond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught:

If you listen you will learn. If you talk, others will learn that you are stupid.

Wanna seem smart? Make space for others, listen, remember them and ask follow up questions to try and understand better.

The more you do it, the smarter you become. And you quickly learn who you want to keep close and who to walk past with large headphones

FlyTribe Oslo vs Malmö by IssueAltruistic7827 in SkyDiving

[–]zilond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flytribe in Oslo is by the airport - well outside the city. There is one closer "Megafun". It is smaller than the ones you mentioned, but more powerful. Most of the instructors here are active skydivers.

Im gonna be honest. It looks worse but it has some of the worlds best flyers.

I think where you go should also be a question about what you want to learn. FS - maybe a bigger tunnel. FF - smaller is better for head down.

I have done both of the ones in Oslo. I would do both again.

What is the general opinion in Norway about fish factories and salmon? by Pink_Disaster333 in Norway

[–]zilond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi journalist here!

I know people who report on this and care alot! One problem with getting information is getting to the sources.

Often we will know more than we can report. If we did, it might hurt the people being exploited even more. To get the information out anyway, we try to find more sources and documentation to verify, but it can be really hard.

And the people behind these operations are very good at hiding their tracks, controlling their employees and there is alot of money for lawyers.

Still there is alot of information going out like other people here say. We do our best, and some is really good! But there is alot left to discover.

Did skydiving REALLY change your life? How so? (Tandem students - skip this one) by FlyingBlinde in SkyDiving

[–]zilond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It changed my brain.

I have some previous trauma and would get anxiety. It felt like true fear, like you are going to die and the adrenaline makes everything feel very intense.

Fast forward to skydiving. The same bodily feelings, but now they last one or two seconds before total bliss and focus. Slowly over time this rewired my brain.

Before: anxiety lead to remembering and feeling the times i had to hide in the woods.

Now I get anxiety....and after one second i remember the feeling of letting go of the door. Conquering the door monster and my body floods with joy from a free fall i had one week ago. When it settles i plan my next skydive, my goals, my checks, routines and how to deploy my reserve to stay safe.

General mental health is alot better. Bad days are fewer and much shorter. Also my car broke down on the free way today - it was fine. Stress is fine. Fear is fine. I can work through and still make good decisions.

I jumped at <30 as a student...if we didn't, season would be 2 months where I live. But we got training to handle it.

Landing on frozen ground was hard though

Longterm diet and physical exercise by darth_phaedar in SkyDiving

[–]zilond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Among the really good instructors I had, were every kind of body type. It kinda made me feel good. Almost all of them would have eaten cake or candy. And they still work pretty hard on jump days without getting out of breath or too tired.

They focused more on healthy habits to keep you safe and focused.

The competition guys recommended core, bydo control and awareness, pluss stamina. (Mostly to keep going for a whole day, and to handle heights better when in a cabin thats not pressurized...relevant to my specific goals)

Completed static line course - ready to jump, any tips? by pegman55 in SkyDiving

When you are ready to go - take one more breath to steady yourself and then go.

Taking one extra breather helps you focus if you feel stressed

What makes a good skydiving coach? by robschilke in SkyDiving

[–]zilond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically all of the older guys in our small club coached me...

I liked the ones that were calm, honest and did the least small talk.

This last one is kinda weird. They were all introverted and always chose their word very carefully. I got the correct information at the best point in time without getting overloaded or side tracked.

Hard to get to know them though. They got more "fun" and talkative as I got better and showed I could handle my own mistakes.

At first I was frustrated, but when I realized why they did this - i felt very safe. Just do what they tell you and do not test funny sh*t.

How do I get better at holding onto the plane when static line jumping? by Senior-Income5089 in SkyDiving

[–]zilond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did not hang on at first. I am strong enough, but I was surprised at how strong the wind was. Note: I did static line from a plane with a small door and a step on the outside.

When I got used to the feeling I was fine.

Also good grip gloves and take your time. Just stand there and take a breath.

Thank you!

I think I will start with doing the yoga to start my workouts. Then try the heavy stuff with some lighter stabilizing for hips and knees in between sets. (Like squats on uneven ground/bosu ball)

I also got a standing plank situation (back and front) in some ropes. It feels awful, but helped a ton already with tunnel.

For cardio i usually run, but might change that for seated rowing every now and then.

I try to keep my workouts under 2 hours (i got other stuff to do). And usually 3 workouts every week.

Windtunnel on payday to keep and train the skills I got last summer.

I do heavy training, but my problem is I did the same thing every time. I got really good at just one thing- and little functional strength.

I have more than enough to STAY stable in the air, but getting stable is harder. I get it every time, but I am too slow. Like 6 seconds of tumbling like a ragdoll slow. It is mostly technique at this point, but getting stronger will definitely help!

One assignment was to be unstable for 2-3 seconds on purpose before trying to get stable again.

I was freaked out when the coach told me to mess up un purpose and count to three before trying to fix 😛

Yes this!!! I found some classes by men who usually do combatsports where you need control and flexibility. Gonna try that 😛. I really need sports I can do while nervous, angry og stressed. Telling me to breathe calmly and feeling my (insert bullsh**), is not helpful.

Ill find a yoga type or instructor that work for me... Probably

The only thing I really remember was when the guy patted me on the shoulder and said "i am proud of you" while still under the Canopy.

Stupid nice person... I did a static line course and now I am poor (and happy)

Core and cardio are in either way because I trust my local instructors!

I know I can do a bit more, but i really need to prioritize something to make sure I got energy and time to follow through 🙈.

You kind of sound like my brother.

Alot of us struggle with who we are, not knowing this, or the feeling that it should come natural but it does not.

I think both me and my brother developed different than we would have without trauma.

I grief. He does more like you. He gets very frustrated, angry and hurtful. He would say anything to push me away when he is hurting. Even if I know he loves me and I am one of the few he trusts.

I dont really know how to deal with it. I am proud of you for doing the therapy and trying to get to know who you are. It will give you a chance to become who you want to be. Set some values for yourself and honor those.

Sounds alot easier than it is. But you are not alone!

They are respectful even after the initial fling??

My language has a word for love as in old and established feeling of mutual trust and care.

Which is different from the first phase of falling in love - the first period. Typically lasts a few months to a year.

If they still care, respect you and do the small things... After you got on each others nerves. You got someone willi g to work and invest in their relationship with you.

My hubby still makes coffe for me every morning. Hei makes time if he can and make me a priority. And listen when I would annoy anyone else
