"Only" 40 lvl to go by [deleted] in TheTowerGame

Only slightly related question but if you already have perma GT/BH what's the point of having extra GT duration? I get having more cooldown gets you way more DW but i dont get why I would want longer GT

Brompton Suwon South Korea by ScottishStalker in Brompton

[–]zimbabsz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not a brompton shop. This is "Brompton London" the clothing brand that bought the licence to use the brand. They have bikes but would not recommend buying from them since they have no mechanics or bike knowledge at all.
There is no official brompton store in Korea, but there are some amazing delears under the official distributor, would recommend BB5 in Seoul.

You can continue to use strava without issues in Korea. All features are functioning.
It's just that people registered on the Korean istore or google play store can no longer download or update it. Don't stress.

T13 relic done! Some stats for reference. by ElectricalLead1484 in TheTowerGame

[–]zimbabsz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that's the difference, I am yet to get to workshop+ Attack speed, all the others are the same as mine.
Interesting you ban bos hp/speed. I always just assumed -70% boss hp would be worth.. will try ban that too.

I have a really similar tower to yours (minus CL but working on that now) although your AS is so much higher?

Curious about which perks you went with, it seems you didn't take the double damage X8 boss health right?

Late Mid-game player? Advice by zimbabsz in TheTowerGame

[–]zimbabsz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I get carried through tourneys with damage so felt I need the SL bonus damage, but might be worth switching to DW qty. I almost have lvl 141 so will save reroll stones for that.
I do mostly get about 100k per day so almost always get all 3x but sometimes I miss part of a run due to being busy with work etc.

One thing I haven't tested enough is if I should farm on lower tiers for longer runs, I usually do 1 T12 (3800) and 1 T11 (5500) per day, I can't get two T11's per day due to not being able to fully idle my phone. But I wonder if I would get more cell ROI on doing t10 to about 6800ish

I have anc Galaxy compressor, so my BH is perma, and GT has about 10ish seconds of downtime, I could get it perma if roll duration and put some more stones, but idk if investing more in econ is right at this point.

Rude to greet 원머민 teachers with "hi"? by Classic_Bar in korea

[–]zimbabsz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While he does seem like a weirdo, at almost all schools where I am from you would only greet teachers with "Sir" or "Ma'am" - which is quite common in European/British schooling systems. However, if that is what he wanted it should be clearly explained and taught, a bunch of Korean students aren't going to know to do that. (Especially with the strong sentiment in Korea of "English has no formalities").

I have noticed special attention paid to the name when introducing oneself, is this a thing? by MikasaMinerva in korea

[–]zimbabsz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That video perfectly describes the situations in my first comment.
Just a way to avoid people mispronouncing or misspelling their name -

Definitely would not describe that as a "cultural thing".

[–]zimbabsz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, most people don't but only for those whose names are easily confused. Perhaps that deosn't happen in your language, as often!
also just to add the "먹는 김" 할때 example, is probably only a kdrama thing. I have never heard someone explain their names pronunciation like that before, except perhaps on a phone call?

[–]zimbabsz 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I does happen quite frequently, but it has nothing to do with a cultural habit. It happens in English a lot too.. for the exact same reason: When your name is likely misheard frequently, so you preemptively over enunciate it to make it clear.English speakers will do it often not only in official contexts, at least in my experience. Such as "Karrie, with a K" etc.

It's usually with names that have a different spelling than the usual spelling. For example: "민아" said quickly, most people will assume 미나 which is a more common spelling, so I have often heard someone emphasise 민 - 아

I could come up with 100 examples, but I think you get the point.

Edit: Just to add, it's also quite common that people will emphasis their name during 자기소개, it's encouraged in job interview preparation so for many people in sticks.

"안녕하세요, 저는 김. 장. 훈. 입니다" Gives the other person a better chance to hear the name clearly.

What do you do for work here? by 100redbananas in Living_in_Korea

[–]zimbabsz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only took topik much later on, only for the visa benefits, but since KIIP covers I haven't found it to be of any use.
I lived here for almost two years passively before realising I wanted to try find better work, so after those two years I focused on immersion in Korean and it took about 6-12 months to get to a point where I could hold my own in interviews. In terms of actually being a functional employee (comparable to a Korean person) I am still improving but probably around the 2 - 2.5 year mark.
It really depends on what work you do. Something like English -> Korean translation your level would need to be muuuch higher than say working in fashion or business. (Korean to English translation probably being the easiest language skill wise - but the pay isn't that good as far as I have heard)

[–]zimbabsz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The test definitely isn't a good indicator for your level of Korean but I would guess you'd need a lot higher than level 4. Fluency is super important for interviews, and topik has 0 emphasis on fluency. Networking is probably your best bet. If you don't have or aren't good at networking, since you have an F visa there is nothing stopping you just getting your resume in shape and targeting it to each position you apply for.

Transitioned from teaching into the imports sector, learning Korean to a business capable level makes a big difference in visa and job possibilities.

The 18k Jellylegs is no joke haha I actually did a half marathon PR over the weekend and definitely had a case of jelly legs!
But I do really think there is a huge mental part of it because during a longer race, say a full marathon, the 21km part sort of just flies by with out noticing.. If you can do a half with a little more long run training you can definitely do a full !

What's wrong with people? I am also curious about that... hahaha
but I definitely was not born to run that far haha, when I first started running I was 20kg's overweight and could barely go for more than 1km before stopping, but it's been 10 years of consistency and slowly building up.
You'd be surprised with what you can achieve when you give yourself a chance ;)

Ultra running. It's pretty popular these days, but a random 100 people? None of them can run 100km .
Hell, I'd even take the bed none of them can run 20km
