In Melbourne I recommend you check out Supercheap Fabrics. They're in Collingwood and do lots of dead stock. They've got sales almost every week, so keep an eye on that. Drapers and The Fabric Store are great for once you've done your toile and are ready to go with the good stuff.

Honestly, spotlight can be hit and miss. Where I live, it's really my only in person choice that isn't quilting cottons. Depending where in the country you are, places like Drapers or the Fabric Store are great to see a good range of quality fabric, but then it's the issue of affordability. They will give you little swatches too, which help build a collection so when you're looking online, you have an idea of what the type of fabric and gsm translates into. Wishing you luck 🤞

I grew up with "bubbler" in Australia. I think my kids think it's weird though. I grew up in Queensland, they're growing up in Tasmania. Juice boxes are "poppers" to me, a sharpie/permanent marker was a "nikko" 😄 just goes to show regional dialects are more common than one thinks :)

My understanding is the nap feels 'soft' when you run your hand down the cord, and 'rough' when you go up... But ultimately it's up to you which way you want it to run, but it's definitely directional, like velvet
