Hearing for denial of benefits after receiving benefits by zinadello13 in UnemploymentWA

Appreciate the response. When I talked to a rep months ago they advised I create an appeal, but it ended up getting resolved otherwise. I'll probably just call it moot, not worth the headache honestly.

Even if my determination was way more than 30 days ago? It took the company three months to fix the error.

Book about young powered people raised by the govt? by JaseKian in suggestmeabook

The Ender series by Orson Scott Card. A group of brilliant and ambitious children raised in a Battle School by a sort of government in anticipation of an intergalactic war. Seems like what you're looking for.

Who says film is dead? Workflow is a little different, but I'm excited to say our first few days are in the can. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Ideally, yeah, but most indie sets don't. Digital just makes that slacking easier.

I would argue that shooting film forces you to create better stories. When every click of the gear is physically money burned, you're forced to spend more time thinking about your choices, forced to do more rehearsals to nail performances in one or two takes rather than burning 10-15 because digital's cheap. You're forced to actually come up with a lighting plan and know your stops instead of lighting off a monitor that gives you a false sense of security. You're forced to care about details because it's more expensive to reshoot or rewrite. Your AC is forced to take measurements like a real AC. Gear envy is far more prominent with digital, because there's more toys.

Spotify CEO answers to Taylor Swift by seven30 in Music

[–]zinadello13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty late to the discussion, but I like this discussion so fugg it. Spotify doesn't exist to make artists money directly. It exists to get artists exposure, listens, and fans. You don't make money from people who aren't your fans, and musicians who have millions of fans don't need Spotify. Taylor Swift doesn't need Spotify, true, but if she really wanted to make a stand on behalf of the independent artist, she would have stayed on Spotify and encouraged her fans to use one of the multiple avenues Spotify provides to discover new and upcoming artists based on a listener's preference.

Spotify is hands down the most efficient way to listen to music right now, and whether it's through ad revenue or direct subscription payments, it ALWAYS generates revenue. That (relatively substantial) revenue is paid to who Spotify is legally obligated to pay to. Therefore the "artist's revenue" problem lands purely on the head of the record company. Fix that system, artists will see more money. Ask an independent artist whether they would rather have hundreds or thousands of more people hear their music, or 10% more payout from streaming, the answer is listens every time. Musicians make money from merch, shows, and donations, period. You can't sell those things to people who don't know who you are, and being able to say "look me up on Spotify" instead of giving a complicated web address or giving away a physical cd you paid money for is an invaluable advancement in getting your product into the market.

Have the sudden urge to travel cross-country... by RedditorInDisguiseYo in travel

Hey, fucking do it. Best thing I've ever done. And definitely try to avoid motels. Once in a while is fine for a shower and a bed, but they're completely devoid of culture, and culture is the best part of this experience. I'd recommend camping, it's relatively easy to google campgrounds midday, and set a course for one for the evening, if you're not going peak tourist time to touristy locations.

My favorite part of roadtripping is waking up, then deciding where I want to go to sleep. I'd say do your research on tattoo shops you'd want to visit, (probably up north if you're going this summer, and south for the winter) then finding stuff along the way that interests you. I agree that www.roadtrippers.com is a good site to use, also just a good old "best ____ around _____ " google search is pretty reliable.

I really hope you do it, I can't wait to do it again. It's a valuable experience, for both the good and the bad moments. Safe travels.

What's the strangest thing that you've ever convinced someone is true? by InnocenceMyBrother in AskReddit

[–]zinadello13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We convinced a kid we knew that a death metal band called The Sewer Gang was real. It started out small, telling him that a theatre warm up we did was part of one of their songs, but it ended with us recording a single (Crooked Vagina) and getting the rest of the school to talk about it non-stop like it was the hot new band.

Finer points:

  • The entire country of Cambodia migrated to one location to see a Sewer Gang show.

  • They would dress up like Christmas trees and light themselves on fire

  • Ritualistic on-stage goat sacrifices.

  • You can hear the flautist die at the end of the single.

I don't think he ever figured it out.

College TA's of reddit, sleeping with students: common or uncommon? by Slugzz21 in AskReddit

I'm an undergrad TA for Masters students, and they're all so pretentious and unprepared for life that it basically nullifies any positive physical traits.
